Chapter 150: Meeting Sebastian Again
Zach got out of the car and only then noticed Brooklyn.
It was the first time he saw her in a skirt, simple in style, devoid of any embellishments. Even her ponytail, usually tied up for work, remained untouched. Yet her pure and clean presence easily caught his eye. Her delicate and graceful demeanor was like a butterfly dancing around the garden, stunning him.
Piper and the other female doctors were all well-dressed. Brooklyn's attire didn't stand out among the group, but her clean and fresh appearance made her highly recognizable.
The group headed straight to the seventh floor, where there were only two top-tier private rooms. Despite their small number, they dominated an entire floor, showcasing their vast size.
Tables were laden with drinks, snacks, and fruits. European-style sofas were arranged in a semi-circular fashion, with the room spanning at least 2,000 square feet. Besides singing, there were facilities for playing pool, poker, and more. As the group entered, the large private room was immediately filled with noise and excitement.
"Dr. Carter! Let's sing! You're the boss tonight!" A doctor handed Zach the microphone, insisting he sing the first song.
Zach waved his hands, "You guys go ahead. I don't sing."
Brooklyn sat on the sofa with Zach beside her. Although there was no one between them, there was still some distance. Brooklyn held a glass of water in one hand, the other resting on the sofa, while Zach's gaze was fixed on her.
However, she seemed to be looking in a different direction, her mind clearly elsewhere. Naturally, she had no idea what the thoughts of the person beside her were.
But all of this did not escape Piper's notice. Despite the glass covering her face, her gaze never left Zach.
The eagerness and appreciation Zach showed when observing Brooklyn was something Piper longed for!
Some suggested, "Don't just focus on singing. Mr. Perez wants to thank those who excelled during the surgeries. A toast to our leading surgeon, Dr. Carter!"
Everyone raised their glasses to Zach, and Brooklyn took a sip as well.
Another doctor suggested,"Let's have a drink with Dr. Carter one by one! Dr. Carter is not only a good surgeon but also a good drinker!"
With that, over a dozen people took turns toasting Zach. He was good at drinking, as he managed to withstand the onslaught of drinks.
"Next, should we toast Dr. Mitchell? As the first assistant in the surgery, Dr. Mitchell's contribution was invaluable. Plus, she helped Dr. Moore after the surgery," another doctor suggested.
Brooklyn widened her eyes. "I'm not good at drinking. How about one drink?"
Samantha sneered, "Dr. Mitchell, do you look down on us? Dr. Carter didn't say anything when he was drinking. What are you implying?"
Seizing the moment, Zach intervened, "I'm a man. It's not the same. Let's keep it simple."
Samantha asked everyone for advice. "What do you think? Is this acceptable?"
"No! Dr. Mitchell must drink! Dr. Mitchell! Dr. Mitchell!" The rest of the doctors insisted.
Unable to resist the enthusiastic urging, Brooklyn reluctantly picked up her glass. "Fine, I'll drink."
Samantha raised her glass, "Dr. Mitchell, I admire your medical skills. I toast to you for this first drink as a token of respect."
She then downed her drink and turned the glass upside down. "How about that?"
"Hooray! Dr. Mitchell, drink!" others cheered for Brooklyn.
Frowning, Brooklyn saw her glass was full. Closing her eyes, she downed the drink.
Once the first drink was taken, there was no stopping the rest. People took turns toasting, one drink after another. Zach raised his hand to stop the drinks. "Enough."
He took the glass from Brooklyn's hand. "I'll drink this one for her."
"Dr. Carter is playing the hero. Have an extra one!" one shouted.
Brooklyn felt the room spinning. The Karaoke Bar felt like an earthquake under her feet. Alcohol rushed to her head, causing a splitting headache. She pressed her fingers against her temples, shook her head, and felt a wave of nausea engulf her.
A sudden surge of nausea hit her mouth, and Brooklyn staggered to the bathroom, clutching the sofa for support.
Just as Zach was trying to follow, Piper approached, holding a glass of wine. She grabbed Zach's arm. "Dr. Carter, I didn't get a chance to toast you earlier. Here!"
Outside the door, Brooklyn finally made it to the ladies' room and leaned against the wall, feeling the room spin. She knelt and vomited, finally emptying her stomach.
She stumbled out of the bathroom since the sink was outside. As she washed her hands, she saw Sebastian in the mirror!
In the large mirror above the sink, Sebastian was looking at Brooklyn through his mirror, their gazes meeting in the reflections.
Brooklyn shook her head vigorously. 'It can't be true. Sebastian won't be in a place like this. No way!' she thought. She opened her eyes again, and Sebastian's face was still there in the mirror! His deep, quiet eyes held scrutiny, inquiry, and a hint of tenderness.
Turning slowly, with her eyes blurred, Brooklyn looked behind her. Almost simultaneously, the tall and imposing figure of the man turned as well, as if a god stood before her, emanating silent authority and power.
Brooklyn suddenly sobered up. "What are you doing here?"
Sebastian pulled out a piece of paper and elegantly wiped his hands. "I should be asking you that. You worked late last night, so what's your excuse for tonight?"
Although Brooklyn was intoxicated, she was not incoherent. She confessed, "There's an event between colleagues. If you don't believe me, you can check this private room."
