Chapter 508 Where Did the Girlfriend Come From

Zach was juggling a stack of patient files when he looked up and saw Ophelia. His brow furrowed slightly. "What brings you here?"

Ophelia glanced at his desk and the files in his hands. "You look swamped."

Zach kept matching the files with the info on his computer screen, his eyes glued to the monitor. "That's the life of a doctor. Always busy. So, Miss Montague, what can I do for you?"

Ophelia walked into his office, pulled up a chair, and sat down. She took in the surroundings. His workspace was spotless and organized. The shelves were lined with medical books, and a few awards were scattered around, showing he didn't care much about them. A heart model stood on a tripod, and several green plants adorned the windowsill. The office's color scheme was mostly green and white, almost too tidy for a guy.

"Zach, did you forget something? Remember, we agreed that if I found the criminal, you'd cook for me for a week. Ring a bell?"

Zach's hand paused for a few seconds, then he glanced at Ophelia. "Starting today?"

"Yep! Considering your status, I came to pick you up myself. A police escort, quite the honor."

Ophelia twirled her keychain around her finger, giving Zach a playful look.

Zach's brow furrowed slightly as he continued organizing his files. "I have patients to see later. Miss Montague, you don't need to wait here. You can head back. And I don't think riding in a police car is anything special."

Ophelia chuckled. "Not everyone in a police car is a criminal. Why so tense?" She smirked, crossing her legs as she scrutinized the refined and gentle man.

Zach finished organizing the files and hung a stethoscope around his neck. "Miss Montague, I need to go to the ward. You can leave now."

Ophelia's eyebrows twitched. "Okay, your turf, your rules! But what do you want for dinner? I'll get the ingredients."

As Zach stood up, Ophelia felt like his presence brightened the room. His tall frame, with the white coat, made him look dignified and charming. His features were soft and approachable, but the coat added an air of elegance and allure.

Strange, why hadn't she noticed this before?

Ophelia's lips curved into a bright and bold smile. "Zach, you look pretty good in that coat! I'll get you an even better apron! See you tonight!"

Zach's well-mannered face showed a fleeting expression of helplessness as he walked past Ophelia to the ward.

Ophelia left Zach's office and saw Brooklyn in the elevator, dressed casually.

Brooklyn was explaining a patient's test results to Arabella, using several medical terms. Her focused expression and profile were strikingly beautiful.

Ophelia waved. "Hey, Dr. Mitchell!"

Brooklyn looked up and nodded. "Hey, Officer Montague."

Knowing Zach and Brooklyn's history, Ophelia couldn't help but scrutinize her. She had to admit, this woman had the charm to captivate men. She shrugged. "Dr. Mitchell, no wonder you're the most beautiful one at Aucester Hospital. But aren't you unwell? Why are you still working while sick?"

Arabella looked at her, also scrutinizing her. "Officer Montague, what brings you here?"

"Me? I'm here to see someone you know, Zach."

At the mention of Zach's name, Arabella immediately became defensive, her eyes narrowing protectively. "What do you want with Dr. Carter?"

Ophelia shrugged, puzzled by Arabella's reaction. "Well... Zach and I are dating now, so it's normal for me to visit him, right?"

Brooklyn and Arabella both stared at Ophelia, their eyes wide. Arabella looked like she could swallow Ophelia whole.

"You're Dr. Carter's girlfriend? Dr. Carter doesn't have a girlfriend. Many women admire him, but you're the first to claim to be his girlfriend. Officer Montague, be careful with your words."

Ophelia's mouth formed an "Oh" shape. "The first, huh? Probably the last too."

Brooklyn looked at Ophelia, not seeming to joke. "You're his date, right?"

Arabella suddenly remembered Zach's recent date. Damn, how could she forget?

"Yeah, it seems you and Zach are pretty tight. He tells you everything. Well, Dr. Mitchell, just wait for him to announce our relationship."

The elevator doors opened, and Ophelia gave them a cheerful wave. "Aren't you gonna congratulate me?"

Arabella gritted her teeth. "Officer Montague, goodbye!"

Brooklyn smiled. "I'll personally congratulate him. Don't worry, Officer Montague."

As Ophelia disappeared, Arabella slammed the files against the elevator door. "Dr. Carter just met her! How could they be dating? I don't buy it!"

Brooklyn patted Arabella's trembling shoulder, trying to calm her down. "I'll ask Dr. Carter later. For now, it's just her claim. Don't get worked up."

Arabella adjusted her glasses. "How can I not be upset? I like Dr. Carter! I want to be his girlfriend!"

Brooklyn chuckled at Arabella's fiery temper. "Alright, let's not get upset until we know for sure. Finish the patient's pathology report for me."

Arabella pouted reluctantly. "Fine, I'll see the patient first. You should rest. If your CEO husband can't find you, he'll turn the place upside down."

The elevator ascended to the VIP ward floor. Brooklyn stepped out and saw a tall figure holding a large bouquet of flowers.

Brooklyn glanced sideways. "Mr. Rivera?"

James turned, smiling as he offered the flowers. "Mrs. Kingsley, how are you feeling? I've been busy and couldn't visit. I hope you're not upset."

Brooklyn wondered when James became so polite.

She didn't immediately take the flowers and asked directly, "Mr. Rivera, are you here to plead for Samantha or your sister? If so, there's no need. I can't help with either."

James smiled awkwardly. "You're sharp, but that's not why I'm here."

Brooklyn moved to the door and pushed it open, seeing Megan and Sebastian facing each other on the sofa.

From her angle, she could only see Sebastian's profile. Megan was explaining something, her gestures animated with anger, while Sebastian remained cold and silent.

Sebastian looked up, annoyed, and saw Brooklyn. His gloomy face brightened with a warm smile, clearing the fog like morning light. Megan's shadow lifted, but when she turned, the light vanished into darkness.

He was smiling at Brooklyn!

Sebastian stood, his tall frame in a silver suit, and walked to Brooklyn, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "Why aren't you resting inside?"

"A patient suddenly fainted. I went to check..." She met Megan's gaze, smiling calmly. "Megan, you don't seem to be here to see me."

Megan straightened, her smile cold. "I'm not here for you, but seeing you're okay is a relief. I didn't expect the kind Brooklyn I knew to be so heartless now."

Her lips curled disdainfully, fingers clenched, wishing her words could poison Brooklyn.

Brooklyn, in Sebastian's embrace, smiled gracefully. "Megan, are you disappointed? After all your efforts, I'm still alive, while your allies... look at their fate."

Megan's jaw tightened, her eyes filled with murderous intent, but she couldn't explode in front of Sebastian. She swallowed her anger.

"Brooklyn, do you want to know why we're here?" Megan's eyes misted with anger and sorrow.

Brooklyn remained silent, watching Megan's pale face.

Megan grabbed her bag, speaking slowly. "Because God is unfair to us! You, Brooklyn, get everything easily. No... even if you want nothing, you get everything."

"But us? We fight for everything, and it's all for nothing. Brooklyn, if you were in my shoes, wouldn't you be angry? Wouldn't you hate?"

"Brooklyn, your life is too easy. You can't understand my feelings, so you have no right to look at me with pity!"

Megan's voice grew louder, almost screaming. Tears suddenly flowed as she collapsed on the sofa, looking up at Brooklyn. "You have everything! The man you love, the career you want, the Mitchell Group's inheritance, everyone's admiration... Brooklyn! What about me? What do I have?"

"Everything I lost is because of you... all of it!"

Brooklyn listened patiently and then smiled sadly. She leaned closer to Megan and looked into her eyes. "Megan, do you know me? Look closely. Do you really know me?"
