Chapter 565 Sebastian Learns the Truth About His Identity

Leaving the MBK International Building, Sebastian slid into his car, his face a mask of cold indifference, radiating an icy aura.

The vibration of his phone in his pocket interrupted his unpleasant memories of the office. He pulled it out and saw the number on the screen, his eyes growing even colder.

It was a long overseas number, unlisted. "Peter, what's up?"

Sebastian shut the car door, tossing the project proposal onto the back seat, where it landed in a corner.

He gripped the steering wheel tightly with one hand.

There was a moment of silence on the other end, as if the person had something difficult to say. "Sebastian, the test results for the two hair samples you gave me are in. There's no genetic relationship between the two individuals, so..."

Sebastian's fingers clenched into a fist, slamming against the steering wheel with a force that made Peter on the other end fall silent, too scared to speak.

Sebastian's eyes burned, driven by an overwhelming force, forcing him to close them. The pain spread through every capillary, consuming his entire body.

His breathing became labored, a sharp pain in his throat, as if the metallic taste of blood was rising, threatening to choke him completely.

Sebastian's tightly shut eyes strained further, the tension pulling at his forehead, creating deep furrows on his young, handsome face.

After a long silence, punctuated only by his heavy breathing, he finally spoke. "I get it."

He didn't know how much time had passed before he said those words, his anger tinged with a sense of helplessness and a bitter realization.

He should have known, should have given up hope long ago. He had just been unwilling to face the truth.

Now, with the DNA test results confirming that he and Brian were not related, all his illusions were shattered, his last hope crumbling.

Sebastian let out a cold, mirthless laugh.

"Sebastian, are you okay?" Peter Reyes asked, concerned.

"I'm fine," Sebastian replied. "Thanks."

He hung up, sitting in the car, listening to his increasingly frantic heartbeat, swallowing the rage building in his chest.

He and Brian were not related. Brian wasn't his father, which meant everything he held in the Kingsley family would be lost.

Who was he? Who was his father?

A flood of new questions surged through his mind, each one threatening to devour his will, his thoughts, his sanity.

Only his mother might know the truth, but asking her directly would only cause more trouble.

He couldn't let anyone know. He had to keep it hidden.

Sebastian rubbed his temples with his cold fingers, forcing himself to calm down.

The minutes felt like days.

All the questions had answers now. Sebastian understood everything.

Why Brian's attitude towards him had changed so drastically when he was a teenager, why he had suddenly brought Quinn back and treated him so well, why Brian had given him MBK to expand the company's power, why Brian had opposed everything he did...

Brian had interfered in his marriage to use him to find the best partner for MBK, had driven Brooklyn away to cut off all his hopes.

Now, he was dispersing his power, pushing Quinn into the company's upper echelons, even trying to replace him. It was all part of Brian's plan.

Brian had known the truth all along, but couldn't reveal it due to Sebastian's influence in MBK. To stabilize the market, he had been slowly stripping away Sebastian's wealth through stock division.

Sebastian laughed, sitting in his car in the underground parking lot, his laughter filled with bitterness.

All these years, he had been nothing more than a tool for Brian to build MBK, a pawn in his financial schemes.

What a grand game, and he was just a piece on the board!

What a joke! A meticulously crafted joke!

His fist slammed into the steering wheel again, the bones in his hand standing out pale from the force, his wedding ring glinting softly, warmly.

After a while, Sebastian took a few deep breaths, collecting his emotions. He knew exactly what kind of battle he was about to start.

He had once thought the CEO position was insignificant, but now—no.

This was his empire, and he wouldn't let Brian take it.

Sebastian turned the key, starting the engine. The car roared like an angry lion into the rain.

The spinning tires kicked up waves of water, the sound of the rain, and the engine blended into a symphony of fury.

Sebastian's strong fingers gripped the steering wheel, his eyes fixed on the wipers, sweeping the rain away, his vision clearing, blurring, then clearing again.

He took a deep breath. The light ahead turned red, and he slammed on the brakes.

The car stopped abruptly, the inertia throwing Sebastian forward, his head nearly hitting the windshield.

Glancing sideways, he saw his own cold eyes and pale face in the rearview mirror. He rubbed his eyes, calming his nerves, pushing back the redness.

He couldn't let Brooklyn know.

The light turned green, and Sebastian released the brake, the car disappearing into the rain as if nothing had happened.

Brooklyn had been reading medical books in her office for over half an hour. An hour had passed, and Sebastian still hadn't arrived.

She picked up her phone to call him, but decided he must be busy and put it down.

She could wait.

But as she waited, Brooklyn grew hungry. There was no food in the office, and the other doctors had either left or gone to eat.

She was alone.

The rain outside roared, the office lit intermittently by flashes of lightning.

Brooklyn took several deep breaths, clutching her chest, and left the office, unaware of how pale she had become.

"Dr. Mitchell."

"Hey, Dr. Mitchell."

"Still here, Dr. Mitchell?"

Nurses and on-duty doctors greeted her as they passed, and Brooklyn nodded, feeling a bit less afraid with people around.

She forced herself to breathe deeply and walked to the balcony. She had to face this. If she didn't overcome her fear, it would always control her.

She didn't like being controlled.

Standing alone on the balcony at the end of the corridor, the sky outside was dark, the rain pouring down all day, thunder and lightning constantly flashing. Brooklyn had been distracted all day.

Her inner demons were hers to conquer.

Brooklyn clenched her fists, her slender fingers curling tightly, her eyes shut, the thunder overhead, the lightning flashing before her, the dark sky, the dark rain, just like that night.

Brooklyn bit her lower lip, veins standing out on her forehead.

'Open your eyes! Look at the sky! Brooklyn, you have to look! You have to see!' Her mind screamed, her reason and fear battling, her back drenched in cold sweat, her palms wet.

With a low growl, Brooklyn suddenly looked up, her tear-filled eyes staring at the stormy sky.

The blackness, soaked in fear and night, the wind driving the rain sideways, the lightning slicing the sky.

It was a night like this, a night of despair.

Brooklyn's eyes widened, forcing herself to stare at the sky, her breath rapid, chaotic, echoing, her heart pounding, almost breaking her.

A thunderclap exploded, the lightning casting a clear reflection in her wide eyes. It was just like that night!

A second thunderclap, more violent, more savage!

Brooklyn staggered back, her high heels clacking against the floor, her hand gripping the wall, fingers digging into the grout between the tiles.

She stood firm.

She stood firm under the dark sky, in the thunder and lightning!

Brooklyn exhaled slowly, her clear eyes looking at the sky, her red lips finally curving into a relaxed smile.

She looked up, smiling at the same sky, realizing that if she was willing to overcome, willing to face it, no difficulty was insurmountable.

She had made it through. It felt so good!

Brooklyn laughed softly, feeling light and free. She had always avoided the rain, foolishly. She should have pushed herself two years ago.

It felt so good, so light.

Adjusting her breathing, Brooklyn turned, and there stood a tall figure, his warm eyes filled with a gentle light, watching her with a loving smile.

Sebastian opened his arms, his deep, soothing voice dispelling all the darkness, bringing a clear sky to her.

Brooklyn walked into his embrace, her body softening as he held her completely.

"When did you get here?"

"I arrived when you did. I've been right behind you."

Brooklyn pressed close to his chest, smiling.

She thought she was fighting alone, not knowing he had been behind her all along.

"You were very brave, Brooklyn," Sebastian said, his voice tender and loving.

Brooklyn hugged his waist. "Thank you for being there for me, darling. I'm so happy."

Dear CEO, Please Be Gentle!
