Chapter 489 Villains Fighting Each Other
Zach heard the comment but just smiled, not saying a word. He took a sip of his coffee, savoring the aroma.
Brooklyn, however, had a different thought. "But Zach, with how famous I am, do you really think your date won't recognize me? If I go, she'll figure it out right away."
Zach thought for a moment, seemingly agreeing with Brooklyn's point. "But right now, in Aucester, I don't have any other female friends. If you don't help me..."
He trailed off, leaving Brooklyn to fill in the blanks.
Brooklyn suddenly had a revelation. There was someone perfect for this!
"Leave it to me. I promise you'll have a reliable assistant for your date. Just give me the time and place, and I'll handle the rest."
Zach was puzzled by Brooklyn's confidence. "Where are you going to find this helper? Who is it? It better not be your bestie, Kelly."
Brooklyn just gave a mysterious smile. "That's a secret. You'll find out soon enough."
"Alright, I'll leave it to you then."
After finishing their coffee, they headed back to the office. On the way, they saw a news report playing on a large screen.
"Megan Turner of the Turner Group, who was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, has been found to have no direct involvement. The main perpetrator, Valerie, is deceased. After more than ten days of detention, Megan was finally released today..."
In the footage, Megan wore oversized sunglasses that covered most of her face. She looked frail and had lost a significant amount of weight.
It seemed she had learned her lesson during her time inside.
"Ms. Turner, you were mistaken for the mastermind in this kidnapping case. Do you have anything to say in your defense?"
"Why did Valerie frame you? What is your relationship with Valerie?"
"What role did you play in this kidnapping?"
The reporters' questions were relentless, showing no mercy. But Megan remained calm, not uttering a single word.
"Ms. Turner, your fiancé is now paralyzed. Will your engagement continue?"
"Mr. Simon said your engagement ceremony was scheduled for the 16th, but that date has passed. Does this mean your engagement is off?"
"Is this your decision alone?"
The reporters' barrage of questions continued as they struggled against Megan's bodyguards, trying to get her to speak. But Megan remained silent.
Surrounded by reporters, Megan was escorted out of the detention center by Turner Group security, who safely got her into a car. Throughout the process, Megan kept her head down, her face dark, and her lips tightly pressed together.
As the car sped away, the reporters couldn't keep up, and they reported from the scene, "Megan and Simon's engagement is in limbo. With Simon now paralyzed, will he still be in Megan's favor? We'll have to wait and see."
Brooklyn let out a cold chuckle and said to Zach, who was watching the screen, "These reporters are really ruthless."
Zach nodded in agreement. "Yeah, if they were talking about you instead, you'd probably disappear within an hour."
Brooklyn glanced at Zach. "Why do I feel like you're always hinting at something when you talk?"
Zach admitted openly, "Because I finally understand the extent of what Sebastian has done for you. No reporter would dare target you now. It's a good thing."
"It doesn't sound like a compliment."
Zach's hand almost reached out to touch Brooklyn's hair, but he clenched his fist in his pocket and held back. "Didn't you notice during the meeting today? As Sebastian's wife and the boss lady of Aucester Hospital, the hospital's leaders will have to show you respect from now on."
Brooklyn frowned slightly. "That doesn't sound too bad!"
"Haha! You!"
Although Brooklyn was still getting used to the spotlight that came with being associated with Sebastian, she knew she had to embrace it eventually. Her man was Sebastian, after all. Instead of shying away, she decided to accept it gracefully.
The same scene was playing in Sebastian's office.
Sebastian turned his wedding ring with his fingers, his expression unreadable. After the car left, he turned off the screen with a remote.
Dario cautiously observed his boss's expression. "Boss, Ms. Turner is out now. She'll likely start dealing with the Turner Group's mess immediately. Should we do something?"
Sebastian slowly raised his eyes, a hint of disdain in them. "The Turner Group is already on the brink of collapse. We don't need to do anything. They won't survive the next financial storm."
"But, boss, Megan and Simon are engaged. If the Turner Group and Simon join forces, won't their chances improve?"
"Simon?" Sebastian's lips curled into a sneer. He weighed the name and then laughed coldly. "Simon rushed to get engaged to Megan to tap into the Turner Group's funds and bind himself to the Turner family. His company has been losing money. Didn't you know?"
"Really? Simon's company seems to be doing fine, and the Scott family has accumulated a lot of capital over the years. Their connections aren't bad either. How could they be losing money?"
Sebastian handed Dario a document. "Take a look at this."
Dario opened the file, and his face changed dramatically. "How could Simon's loans be this large? What has he been doing with his company? How did he end up in such a dire situation?"
Sebastian scoffed. "You'd have to ask him that. In any case, Simon is now burdened with massive debt. He has two options: be crushed by the debt and declare bankruptcy, or drag Megan down with him, live or die together."
Dario gritted his teeth and sighed. "Simon's move is really ruthless! He wants to drag the Turner Group down with him. What a bastard!"
Sebastian smiled leisurely, casually writing with his pen. "Now, I have two options as well. Want to hear them?"
"Please, boss."
Dario sensed that his boss was up to something.
"First, I could give this information to Megan for free, warning her to break ties with Simon immediately to protect the Turner Group from being implicated. This approach is quite humanitarian."
Dario nodded. "It is humanitarian, but boss, is Megan worth helping?"
Sebastian raised a second finger. "Second, I could hide Simon's true situation and let Megan destroy herself."
Dario silently laughed. He thought this option suited his boss's style better. "But with Simon in this state, will Megan still consider him?"
Sebastian's smile was enigmatic. "Megan comes from the entertainment industry and is skilled at using public opinion. Today, I'll use her own tactics against her. What do you think the Kingsley family's media outlets are for?"
Dario suddenly understood. "Boss, you're brilliant! I'll have them release the news right away! Let's put Megan in a tough spot!"
Sebastian said nothing.
As for Megan and Simon, there was no need for him to intervene personally. Watching them tear each other apart was more his style.
After Dario left the office, Sebastian checked his watch. It was time to inquire about the factory shipment.
Brandon was woken up by the sound of his phone ringing. Groggily, he reached for it, fumbling around until he found it on the floor. He answered weakly, "Mr. Kingsley, can't a guy get some rest?"
"Mr. Hernandez, it's 5:30 in the afternoon. Don't tell me you're sleeping."
Brandon looked defeated. "My dear Mr. Kingsley, I've been pulling an all-nighter at the factory with the workers to rush that shipment. If I keep going, I'll drop dead."
Sebastian frowned. "What about the workers? Are they getting any rest?"
"Of course. They're all home sleeping now. We'll start again at 8 PM."
Brandon's voice woke up Bianca in the bedroom. She rubbed her eyes. "Mr. Hernandez? What are you doing in my house?"
Sebastian's frown deepened. "Mr. Hernandez, you sure had a good nap, ending up at Ms. Gomez's place. What, giving yourself a reward after overtime?"
"Fuck! No reward here. I'll send you an email with the factory's progress later."
He quickly hung up.
Sebastian looked at the disconnected call, his smile growing more meaningful.
Brandon rubbed his aching head and gave Bianca a fake smile, waving his arm. "Ms. Gomez, you're awake?"
Bianca crossed her arms, glaring at Brandon, who was lying on her living room sofa. "What are you doing here?"
"Damn it! You were out cold, and now you don't recognize me. Ms. Gomez, don't you remember what happened when I got here?"
Brandon's words were too ambiguous, making it easy to misinterpret.
Bianca pressed her sore forehead. "I don't remember anything happening between us. Don't mislead me."
"Tsk tsk! That's not fair, Ms. Gomez. You were clinging to me when I arrived, and you invited me to stay and sleep. Don't you remember?"
Bianca snorted. "Impossible! Now that you're awake, please leave."
Brandon stretched and yawned. "Ms. Gomez, you can't just use me and toss me aside. I'm all sweaty. Isn't it inappropriate to send me away like this? At least let me use your shower. And..." Brandon rubbed his stomach. "I'm hungry. Shouldn't you make something for your guest?"
"Ha! Mr. Hernandez, you have some nerve."
"Ms. Gomez, no need to go all out. Four dishes and a soup will do. I'll go shower now. Thanks!"
Bianca gritted her teeth, her face turning red with anger. "Brandon, stop right there!"
"Ms. Gomez, your bathroom is huge. The shower will be great! Thanks!"
"Brandon!"
She kept shouting, but soon heard the sound of running water. He had already started showering.
"Brandon! You don't have any clean clothes. What are you going to wear after your shower?"
