Chapter 379 Inappropriate Substitute
Scarlett just felt it was strange.
As Sebastian's fiancée, Megan should be the object of envy and admiration for countless women, considering his influence and standing.
While she appeared outwardly calm, a hidden anxiety and unease were evident in Megan's demeanor today.
"Ms. Turner, I understand your intentions. Take it easy, I have no interest in your fiancé. He will only ever be my patient. Take care of yourself, and you will have children in the future. I wish you both a long and happy life together." Scarlett smiled.
Megan never expected Scarlett to be so straightforward, and she was surprised at how thoroughly Scarlett saw through her thoughts.
Forcing a friendly smile, Megan said, "Ms. Taylor, you misunderstood. I didn't mean that. I just wanted to thank you, and I genuinely want to be friends with you."
Scarlett was very smart. How could she not know what Megan was thinking?
"Friends? Just let things happen naturally." Scarlett lifted her gaze from the coffee cup and looked at Megan's stunning face. She was too beautiful not to be a star. Sebastian was indeed lucky.
However, since Sebastian's late wife had once caused her to lose a child, and her voice was similar to Sebastian's late wife, why would she take the initiative to befriend her?
Did Megan think Scarlett was an idiot?
Megan smiled, "Ms. Taylor, you are just as vibrant and independent as everyone says."
Scarlett felt a headache coming on. She had heard some of the rumors, and they were quite exaggerated.
At this moment, the dessert Megan ordered arrived. She pushed a small piece of matcha mille crepe in front of Scarlett. "The desserts at this place are really good. Try it."
Megan subconsciously wanted to test her, knowing that Brooklyn had a strong preference for matcha flavor.
Scarlett frowned, "I'm sorry, I never eat desserts, and I don't like matcha-flavored things. Ms. Turner, please enjoy it yourself."
Megan squeezed the fork in her hand and apologized with a smile, "I'm sorry, I thought you might like it."
Scarlett frowned, "Ms. Turner, my name is Scarlett Taylor, and I have nothing to do with your fiancé's late wife. So please don't treat me as his late wife, OK?"
She didn't like being treated as a substitute!
"Of course! Ms. Taylor is smarter and more beautiful than her. How could she compare to you?" Megan's lips curved slowly. It seemed Scarlett had no connection to Brooklyn.
"Ms. Taylor, where are you living now? I heard you came from Averlake." Megan continued to asked.
This was the key question.
Scarlett glanced at her expression. Since she knew she was Sebastian's doctor, she must also know she was living in Sebastian's villa. This was a test.
"Since I am Sebastian's doctor, I naturally prioritize him. Ms. Turner, if you are worried about him, you can visit anytime." Scarlett replied.
Megan had a strong sense of defense and suspicion, but unfortunately, she lacked courage and didn't have a high status. Sebastian was ready to break off the engagement with her at any time.
Scarlett thought Megan was quite pitiful.
"Ms. Taylor, thank you for taking care of Sebastian. I'm not in good health either, and the villa is far away. Sebastian and I usually meet outside." Megan tried to explained.
Meeting outside? It was clear that Sebastian didn't want to see her and didn't allow her to enter the villa.
How could she let Scarlett know such a humiliation?
"Ms. Turner, you are truly considerate and generous." Scarlett smiled.
"As his fiancée, it's my duty." Megan said.
'You are so obedient, but Sebastian is planning to break off the engagement with you, fool.' Scarlett thought.
After a conversation full of hidden agendas, Scarlett drove away.
Megan watched Scarlett's car disappear into the distance, clutching the fork in her hand tightly.
Sebastian's car was a limited edition worldwide. Most people couldn't even sit in it, let alone drive it. Yet she could flaunt it on the road.
Should Megan guard against Scarlett or try to win her over?
On her way back, Scarlett encountered a traffic jam. Her car was stuck in the middle of the traffic.
"Ms. Taylor? What a coincidence!" In the car next to her, the window of a black Mercedes sports car was open, and a figure popped out. James had a leisurely smile on his face, one hand on the steering wheel, and the other resting on the window frame.
Scarlett nodded, "Hello, Mr. Rivera."
James politely asked, "Ms. Taylor, what brings you here? Is it something to do with Sebastian?"
Scarlett remembered what Kelly had said and kept her distance, responding coldly, "It's my own business, nothing to do with Mr. Kingsley."
James smiled, "In that case, once we get through this traffic, let me treat you to a meal. I didn't get to properly host you last night, so let me make it up to you today."
"No need, Mr. Rivera. You must be very busy with your high status." Scarlett refused.
"Not at all. I always have time to dine with a genius doctor like Ms. Taylor." James's gaze was fixed on Scarlett's profile. Her side profile was delicate and charming, with a graceful chin and long eyelashes fluttering over her eyes.
She was stunning from every angle.
Scarlett frowned. It was frustrating that the road was blocked, preventing her from leaving. Otherwise, she would have sped away, leaving James far behind. "Unfortunately, I don't have time. Mr. Rivera, enjoy your lunch."
Her refusal only fueled James's desire to conquer her.
James's car moved forward a few steps, and he continued to invite her, "Ms. Taylor, why refuse me? If you don't want to continue being Sebastian's doctor, I can help you. I can give you anything you want. How about that?"
Scarlett's pink lips curved upward as she turned to look at James. Her clear eyes revealed a hint of cunning, "What if I want Mr. Rivera to stay fifty miles away from me?"
"Well, you really know how to joke. Women who joke are the cutest." James laughed.
"I never joke, Mr. Rivera. There's no need for direct contact between us, and you don't need to waste your time on me." With that, Scarlett rolled up the window, shutting James out.
James tapped his fingers on the window frame, his lips curving into an even more carefree smile.
The traffic finally cleared, and Scarlett made a right turn at the intersection, leaving James behind.
A troublesome thought popped into her, and Scarlett cursed silently. Damn it! Quinn still had her engagement ring.
What a bunch of weirdos in Aucester, all with too much time on their hands!
At that moment, her phone rang.
The screen flashed with a string of numbers and a name that didn't bring her much joy.
"Mr. Kingsley." Scarlett answered the phone.
Sebastian sat in his office, glancing at his watch. "Where are you?"
Scarlett looked at the GPS. "Seasons Avenue."
Seasons Avenue was a bit of a distance from MBK Group.
"Be at MBK Group International Building in half an hour." Sebastian twirled a pen around his fingers.
"Why? Are you having an episode?" Scarlett was confused.
As a doctor, she only showed up when the patient, Sebastian, needed her. Otherwise, why go?
Sebastian's pen slipped from his hand and fell to the floor. His handsome face showed a hint of anger. "Is your memory really that bad, Ms. Taylor?"
Damn it! She had to double as his driver.
"Fine, see you in half an hour!" She hung up the phone, fuming. He wasn't having an episode, he was crazy!
In the MBK Group.
Dario leaned in. "Mr. Kingsley, the delegation from Synergy Innovations Group has been waiting in the conference room for over an hour. When will you see them?"
"The project is decent, but their asking price is too high. Let them wait." Sebastian siad.
Dario nodded. "Understood. But Mr. Kingsley, you've been ignoring them for half a month, and their price isn't considered high in the industry."
Sebastian glanced at the pen on the floor, frowning. "They're using a partnership with MBK Group as an advertisement for themselves. Shouldn't they pay an advertising fee?"
Dario immediately understood. Synergy Innovations Group's asking price wasn't high, but once they successfully partnered with MBK Group, their value would skyrocket, making it easy for them to rake in money in the future.
"Mr. Kingsley, you're wise! I'll continue to press the price." Dario praised.
Sebastian didn't respond. Instead, he bent down to pick up the pen, a pen he had used countless times, and his lips actually moved.
Dario almost did a double-take. What was up with Sebastian?
"No need, I'll go to the conference room first." Sebastian said.
Was Sebastian really okay?
Half an hour later, a black sports car arrived at the MBK Group International Building.
Scarlett tilted her head upwards, taking in the skyscraper that loomed over everything else, its sheer size and dominance dwarfing the buildings around it.
As she was musing, she saw through the car window a group of people emerging from the revolving glass doors of the building, all dressed in sharp suits, a sea of black.
Sebastian stood among a dozen middle-aged and young men with his tall and upright figure, his expression stern, his eyebrows sharp. His dark suit was perfectly tailored, accentuating his tall frame, making him stand out in the crowd.
The executives beside him were smiling obsequiously, explaining something. He nodded occasionall, but his reaction remained indifferent and distant, as if he didn't care.
Sebastian descended the steps with his long legs, his deep eyes spotting the black sports car parked ahead. He turned to the person beside him and said, "That's all for now. I have other matters to attend to."
"Of course, Mr. Kingsley. Please, contact us anytime for detailed cooperation." One of the executives said.
Sebastian nodded slightly and walked over to the car, standing elegantly by the door.
Scarlett rolled her eyes. Sebastian really knew how to put on a show!
Sebastian stood by the car window, one hand in his pocket, casting a shadow over the car, unmoving.
Scarlett wanted to strangle him!
She got out of the car and opened the back door. "Mr. Kingsley, please get in."
Damn it, he wouldn't get in unless she opened the door for him?
Sebastian got into the car, sitting down steadily, his long legs crossing gracefully. As soon as he was in, he closed his eyes to rest.
"Mr. Kingsley, where are you going?" Scarlett fastened her seatbelt and turned to find Sebastian already dozing off.
Without opening his eyes, Sebastian lazily replied, "Just drive straight. I'll tell you when to turn."
'Are you kidding me? You can give directions with your eyes closed?' Scarlett was speechless.
Fine! If he wasn't afraid of dying, why should she be?
The black sports car sped off.
In the MBK Group lobby, Brian had just come downstairs and witnessed the scene.
"Yancy, when did Sebastian change drivers?" Brian's deep voice sounded displeased.
Yancy responded, "The person driving Mr. Sebastian Kingsley just now wasn't his driver. It was his personal doctor, Scarlett. She attended James's banquet with Mr. Sebastian Kingsley. I've heard Scarlett is quite an impressive woman."
"So that's how it is." Brian's voice grew even deeper.
Yancy quickly added, "She's from Averlake and just arrived in Libertya. Mr. Brian Kingsley, do you need a thorough investigation?"
Brian's experienced eyes grew cold. "Do I need to spell it out? Anyone close to Sebastian must be thoroughly checked."
"Yes, I'll get right on it." Yancy replied.
