Chapter 153: Truth After Drinking
He suddenly let go of her chin, a hint of weariness on his face. By casually distancing their relationship, Sebastian complied with her since she didn't want to be disturbed.Even though, at that moment, he really couldn't help but say, "She is my wife and belongs to me."
Shit! He was actually considering her feelings! Even if he were to reveal her identity, this was not the appropriate occasion. There was a long way to go.
After a thrilling interlude, everyone continued to play around while Piper clenched her fists in the shadows!
Zach breathed a sigh of relief, his large hand holding Brooklyn's arm to guide her back to the sofa. Sebastian's hand, however, remained on her arm, not letting go.
For a moment, the atmosphere tensed up again! Two men vying for one woman! What a scene!
Sebastian raised an eyebrow. "Dr. Mitchell was once my attending physician. I'll toast to you."
The dignified Mr. Kingsley might not even realize it himself, but the jealousy in his heart was almost overflowing. He wanted to chop up any man who approached or touched Brooklyn!
Brooklyn whispered, "Since you know how you ended up in the hospital, you should stay sober."
Sebastian heard her. What a businesslike reminder!
Handsome Sebastian held the glass, with the swaying cognac exuding a romantic intensity. Sebastian gazed at Brooklyn's eyes, sipping the fine wine slowly as if entwined with a beautiful woman.
"Mr. Kingsley, how forthright!" The crowd cheered.
Brooklyn looked dazed, her eyes almost teary. 'Sebastian, why does you offer your tenderness when I've decided to let go? Is this a punishment?' she pondered.
Brooklyn picked up a glass filled with strong whiskey. She raised it to her lips, her gaze flickering as she looked at him. "Mr. Kingsley, thank you for clarifying things today."
Before Sebastian could stop her, she tilted her head back and downed the drink! The fiery liquor burned her throat like a knife! This time, she truly felt dizzy.
He reached out but missed grabbing her hand.
"Let's keep singing!" one suggested.
Zach finally brought Brooklyn back to the sofa. She leaned back, feeling uncomfortable, a burning pain in her chest. Zach fed her water and wiped her sweat while Sebastian tightened his fingers as if he wanted to kill someone!
Dario rushed over to take Sebastian away. "Ladies and gentlemen, as handsome as our boss is, we need him back."
Brooklyn suddenly stood up. "Where is my microphone? I want to sing!" Her words shocked everyone. Has the ice-cold goddess gone crazy from the alcohol? What a spectacle!
"I want to sing 'Goodbye My Lover'!" Brooklyn shouted.
With the rhythm and disorder in her singing, Brooklyn choked up, unable to finish the lyrics.
Sebastian looked serious, quietly watching the woman opposite. She held the microphone, singing with closed eyes, so deeply engrossed that it wasn't like singing but more like confiding.
Was this an unintentional song or her inner monologue? The microphone fell to the ground amidst the chaotic singing.
Brooklyn was drunk. If not, she probably wouldn't dare to say such things.
'Sebastian, you shelter her while I wait for her in the rain,' Zach thought.
"You guys have fun. Dr. Mitchell is drunk. I'll take her back." Zach helped Brooklyn up, holding her close.
Her efforts in drinking and singing today, in tears and collapse, were all for Sebastian alone! If she could do anything for Zach, he would surely go crazy with joy. But even so, Zach was still willing to accompany and protect Brooklyn unconditionally.
A terrifying and pitiful thought flashed through Zach's mind. 'Brooklyn, what should I do? Have I truly fallen in love with you?'
Piper gritted her teeth as she approached. "Dr. Carter, you're the star of tonight. How can you leave? Let me escort her."
"So what?" Zach insisted.
"Zach, let me do it. It really is better," Piper added.
Knowing how awkward his position was, Zach had no choice but to yield. Brooklyn mumbled something incomprehensible, and Piper struggled to help her out.
As they descended the stairs, Piper sneered in disdain. "Brooklyn, Sebastian doesn't even want to acknowledge who you are. Why are you still clinging to the Kingsley family? You should leave now!"
Brooklyn smiled foolishly, her words jumbled. "Dr. Rivera, do you know? my hand..."
"Dr. Rivera." A low, powerful voice came from behind as Sebastian strode forward, one hand in his pocket. His tall figure cast a large shadow.
"Mr. Kingsley, what's wrong?" Piper asked.
"Hand her over to me," Sebastian said.
Piper widened her eyes. "Why?"
"Because you can't say no." With that, Sebastian took Brooklyn from Piper's hands, furrowed his brow, and decided to carry her, striding towards the black Rolls-Royce.
Owen, who had been waiting, opened the car door, and the two of them sat in the spacious back seat.
Sebastian rested her head on his lap. "Owen, back to the mansion."
"Kelly, do you know..." Brooklyn in his arms pressed against his chest, her pained face wrinkled. She was weak from alcohol. The last drink was enough to cause Brooklyn stomach to cramp. What a fool!
Brooklyn continued to speak incoherently, tugging at Sebastian's clothes. She mistook Sebastian for Kelly, laughing foolishly and sadly. "Why does God treat me like this? I love him so much. Why does he treat me like this?"
