Chapter 31 Chance Encounter
"Dr. Mitchell! Come with me, quick!"
When Brooklyn was nearly assaulted by the patient's relatives, Felix grabbed her wrist and pulled her into the elevator!
As the elevator doors closed rapidly, Brooklyn could still see the people outside, screaming and swinging their fists like mad.
Leaning against the elevator wall, Brooklyn was still frightened. The scene she had just witnessed was too horrific; it was her first encounter with patient relatives causing a disturbance since becoming a doctor. They were truly insane.
Felix looked at Brooklyn with concern and comforted her, "Are you okay?"
Brooklyn shook her head, "Thank you."
Noticing the beads of sweat on Brooklyn's forehead, Felix was still worried, "You're not on duty today, why did you come to the hospital? You shouldn't show your face at times like these; it'll blow over. They just think a female doctor is an easy target."
"If that's the case, then I'll just have to prove to them that female doctors are not to be trifled with."
The elevator slowly descended, and Felix's expression turned serious, "You're not thinking of confronting that mob, are you? Dr. Mitchell, these family members who have just lost a loved one are not rational. Arguing with them is pointless! Understand? Don't take the risk."
Brooklyn glanced at Felix in his white coat, clutching a clipboard, the scholarly-looking Felix obviously didn't want things to get worse.
"The incident has already happened, I can't just do nothing. I'm the patient's attending physician, and I can never run away from that. Thank you, go do your rounds."
Brooklyn pressed a button midway to get off the elevator early.
"Dr. Mitchell, don't be rash! Mr. Clark and Mr. Whitman are working on a solution!"
As the elevator doors closed, Felix's voice was completely cut off inside.
Brooklyn went straight to George's office.
Seeing that it was Brooklyn who had arrived, George pushed up his glasses on his nose bridge, "Why have you come? Do you want to get beaten to death by the patient's family at a time like this?"
Brooklyn bent forward in gratitude, "Mr. Clark, thank you for explaining on my behalf earlier, but the deceased was my patient, I bear an inescapable responsibility, and I must explain the facts. If I don't come forward, they might think the hospital is hiding something, so I request to examine the patient's body."
George's murky eyes narrowed fiercely. He propped his glasses with one hand, staring at Brooklyn in disbelief, "Brooklyn, have you lost your mind? Examine the body? I've reviewed the patient's case; he was indeed admitted with acute myocardial infarction and had no other medical history."
Brooklyn nodded, "I know, but I can't guarantee there weren't other conditions before the onset of the patient's illness."
At that moment, Bruce, troubled by the incident, hurried over. Seeing Brooklyn in George's office too, Bruce wiped his bald forehead, "Mr. Clark, the patient's family is demonstrating at the hospital entrance! They've even hung up banners, they are clearly trying to extort us."
The three of them stood at the window, looking down at the large banner hung at the hospital entrance, filled with curses. The patient's relatives were holding placards, crying at the entrance, attracting onlookers.
Brooklyn frowned, "It seems they're really here for the money. Mr. Clark, Mr. Whitman, if we give in and appease them with money, it will only encourage this bad behavior and will not solve the problem completely."
George took off his glasses, wiping the corners of his eyes, "Do you have a solution? Let's hear your thoughts."
Brooklyn's mind suddenly flashed with the malice of Susie and her mother. Back then, it was because she was too averse to fighting that they climbed to the top of the Mitchell family's power hierarchy, stepping on her shoulders.
Damn it!
"I insist on an autopsy of the patient's body and request a forensic certification. If there is an error in my treatment, I will take the corresponding responsibility and will not cause trouble for the hospital, but if it's the patient's issue, I will demand an apology from the family and will not back down."
Brooklyn's words were both reasonable and firm. After exchanging glances, George and Bruce agreed, but there was one problem, "The family probably won't agree to an autopsy... Brooklyn, you better be prepared."
Brooklyn nodded. Even if it was difficult, she would not allow anyone to slander her.
Bruce said, "Dr. Mitchell, it's good to detest evil, but... with the current situation..."
"Mr. Whitman, because I am innocent, I am not afraid of slander, because the truth will prove me right. Don't worry, I will handle it."
George dialed a number, "Send ten security guards over to escort Dr. Mitchell."
"Unethical doctor, murderer!"
"Give us back our son's life! Return the money!"
Brooklyn walked out to the outpatient building accompanied by several security guards.
Seventy to eighty people were causing a commotion at the hospital entrance!
The patient was a local from Aucester, so they had gathered people from miles around.
"Bang!"
An egg smashed right onto Brooklyn, the yolk running down her white shirt, staining her entire chest!
"Give back my son!"
"Idiot doctor, get out of the hospital!"
"Unethical hospital, give us back our money!"
The relatives once again lost control, roaring and howling, and a second egg was thrown, which a security guard quickly blocked with his back.
"Dr. Mitchell, we can't go on like this, get inside, leave this to us."
Brooklyn brushed the egg yolk off her body, her expression calm as she looked at these people driven mad by money...
At that moment, in the top floor of MKB International Building, Sebastian had just finished a meeting and returned to his office. He unintentionally turned on the display screen mounted on the wall, about to switch to the financial channel, when the face of a woman on the screen halted his motion.
Brooklyn, covered in egg and looking disheveled, stared down dozens of rioters, her voice icy and serious, "I am Mike Miller's attending physician, Brooklyn Mitchell..."
