Chapter 493 Zach is Going on a Blind Date

Brooklyn slowly woke up from a deep coma, feeling like her head was about to explode. Her delicate eyebrows furrowed in pain, and her long eyelashes trembled.

She hadn't opened her eyes yet, but a sharp pain shot through her head, spreading throughout her body and reaching her fingertips.

"Brooklyn, you okay?"

Hearing her soft groan, Sebastian anxiously gripped her hand, his worried voice filling her ears.

"Sebastian, what are you doing here?"

Brooklyn forced her eyes open and saw Sebastian's handsome, concerned face leaning close to hers. His face seemed to grow larger, his eyes capturing all the colors in her vision.

"You're finally awake!"

Ignoring her question, Sebastian focused entirely on her well-being. Seeing her awake, he pulled her into his arms, his chin resting against her cheek. "Thank goodness you're awake."

Brooklyn squinted, her voice still tired. She tried to recall what had happened before she lost consciousness. Wait, she had been in the operating room when she passed out. How did she end up here? And why was Sebastian here?

"How long was I out?"

Brooklyn glanced around the room, now fully illuminated by sunlight. Judging by the brightness, it was at least ten in the morning. Had she been unconscious for that long?

Sebastian didn't answer, just held her tightly, as if afraid to let go. "Don't ever do something so reckless again. Don't scare me like that."

His deep voice sounded so pained, as if he had gone through a life-and-death ordeal. The pain in his voice made her heart ache.

"I'm fine now, aren't I? Since when did Mr. Kingsley become so fragile? I always thought you were an invincible tough guy. This isn't like you." She tried to suppress her pain, knowing he was scared because he cared deeply.

Sebastian finally released her, gazing into her eyes. "You still have the energy to argue with me? I'll call the doctor to check on you. Close your eyes and rest a bit more."

Brooklyn grabbed his fingers weakly but tightly, shaking her head and looking up at his chin. "Don't go. Stay with me."

Sebastian's heart skipped a beat, then he smiled indulgently. "Okay, I won't go. I'll stay right here with you."

He pressed the call button for the doctor and poured a glass of water, blowing on it. "Drink some water first."

"Okay."

The doctor and nurse rushed into the room within a minute and carefully examined Brooklyn's head and right hand.

The neurosurgeons and orthopedic doctors were on high alert, treating this examination as if they were checking the queen's health in front of the king. The pressure was immense.

Brooklyn, usually the one examining patients, found the experience surprisingly enjoyable. But when she looked up and saw Sebastian's cold eyes, she couldn't help but smile. "Ryan, why are you so nervous? You're the top neurosurgeon, not an intern. Relax."

Ryan wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Okay, got it."

Sebastian's expression remained stern and serious. If they dared to say anything negative, he looked ready to have them thrown out.

Finally, the examination ended.

"Mr. Kingsley, Dr. Mitchell's CT scan shows that the blood clot hasn't worsened. The medication is working, so there's no immediate danger. However..." The doctor glanced nervously at Sebastian, who looked so intimidating that he didn't dare continue.

"However, what?" Sebastian's voice was icy.

Ryan wiped his sweat again. "However, Dr. Mitchell's right hand is suffering from overuse and an old injury. She needs to rest for a week and undergo massage therapy to help her recover."

Sebastian's expression softened slightly. "Alright, you can go now."

"Okay, Dr. Mitchell, please take care."

The doctors quickly left, and the room returned to its peaceful state. Sebastian's icy expression gradually warmed, becoming gentle.

"Let me help you sit up and drink some water."

"Okay."

Sebastian gently helped Brooklyn sit up and gave her half a glass of water. "Drink slowly."

Brooklyn was amused by his nervousness. "I'm really fine now. Don't be so tense. You're making me nervous, too. Relax, okay?"

Sebastian sighed. "I only have one wife. If I don't worry about you, who will I worry about?"

His words warmed Brooklyn's heart.

After drinking the water, Sebastian asked if she wanted to eat anything. Brooklyn, feeling dizzy and not having much of an appetite, suggested a few of Sebastian's favorite dishes, knowing he wouldn't eat if she didn't.

A while later, there was a knock on the door, and Jake and Arabella entered.

Arabella reported the situation of the patient they had saved. "Dr. Carter took over for you, so the surgery wasn't interrupted. The patient's heart and pulse were stable when they left the operating room. They're in the ICU now, but it might take a while for them to wake up."

"Got it. Keep an eye on the patient's recovery. I won't be able to oversee things for a few days. You two will have to share my workload. If there are any issues, come to me immediately."

Arabella glanced at Sebastian, feeling breathless every time she saw him.

Sebastian noticed Jake standing calmly to the side, showing no emotion, and then looked away.

"Dr. Mitchell, is there anything else you need us to do?" Arabella asked.

Brooklyn shook her head, then suddenly remembered something. "Arabella, are you free tomorrow night?"

Arabella was puzzled. "Yeah, why?"

Brooklyn smiled. "Great. I need you to help me with something."

"Of course, Dr. Mitchell. Just let me know!"

After they left, Sebastian narrowed his eyes. "What you asked her to do isn't work-related, is it?"

Brooklyn gave him a mischievous smile. "I can't tell you that yet."

Arabella looked at her phone and saw the name and time of a restaurant reservation. She hugged her phone and giggled for a long time.

"Dr. Mitchell is amazing! I love her so much! Ahhh! I love her!"

Jake plugged his ears, annoyed. "Arabella, what's wrong with you? If my ears get damaged, it's your fault."

Arabella put her phone in her bag. "Not my problem! You should go home early today. I'll cover your shift. Tomorrow, you cover for me."

Jake raised an eyebrow, leaning back in his chair. "Oh? Got a date?"

"None of your business!"

"Judging by your expression, I don't need an explanation. But Arabella, don't tell me you've never dated anyone in your life. You look so desperate to get married. I can only assume you're worried about your love life."

Arabella twirled her pen skillfully. "Wrong! I'm in high demand! I just haven't found anyone I like!"

But tomorrow night, she was determined to win over Zach!

After a good night's sleep, the hospital was quiet the next day. Arabella spent most of the day watching the clock.

Zach, thinking about the evening's blind date and Brooklyn in the hospital, felt conflicted.

He considered canceling the date, but then he received a text from Brooklyn.

"Zach, someone will help you with the date tonight. Everything will go smoothly. Have a great evening."

Zach was skeptical. Smooth? He doubted it.

As the workday ended, Zach changed into a suit and tie, looking every bit the dashing gentleman.

On his way to the parking lot, he ran into Arabella. They both noticed each other's outfits—Zach in a sharp suit and tie, Arabella in a V-neck dress.

Arabella's heart skipped a beat. "Dr. Carter, got a date tonight?"

Zach smiled politely. "Something like that."

"I have a date too. What a coincidence!"

Zach smiled again. "That's great. No wonder Dr. Lin looks so beautiful tonight."

"Really? Dr. Carter, do you think my dress is pretty?" Arabella twirled her dress like a girl showing off.

"Yes, it's very pretty."

Zach complimented her out of politeness, with no other intentions.

"Thank you, Dr. Carter!"

They each got into their cars. Zach's black Mercedes led the way, with Arabella's black BMW following at a distance.

Arabella was thrilled. Zach thought her dress was pretty!

She gripped the steering wheel tightly, excited about pretending to be Zach's girlfriend that night.

Zach's car arrived at the restaurant, but the parking lot was crowded. He tried to park in the last available spot, but a white Mercedes pulled up at the same time, blocking the way.

Zach frowned, rolled down his window, and gestured for the other driver to wait.

The window of the white Mercedes rolled down. "Sir, you're blocking the way!"

Just then, Zach's car backed up an inch, but the car behind him didn't see and kept moving forward.

Zach's car hit the front of the Cadillac SUV behind him, shattering its headlights.

Zach quickly got out, but before he could speak, the other driver started yelling.

"Are you blind? How do you drive?"

A couple in their thirties got out of the SUV, the woman pointing at Zach and yelling, not caring that they were in public.

Zach frowned. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you while backing up."

"Sorry? This is a new car! You broke my headlights. What are you going to do about it?"
