Chapter 402 Brooklyn, we're home

Scarlett didn't expect that the place Sebastian took her to was just an ordinary apartment complex.

The complex couldn't compare to the luxurious villa where Sebastian lived. In a city as extravagant as Aucester, it was just a very average residence.

The two of them entered a small elevator and went straight up to the sixteenth floor. It was only then that he looked down at Scarlett and said, "Weren't you curious about Brooklyn? I brought you here to meet her."

What was going on? Hadn't Brooklyn been dead for more than two years? Did she misunderstand his words, or was she overthinking it?

Sebastian opened the door to a small two-bedroom apartment, less than a thousand square feet in total. It was neatly organized, but it was obvious that no one had lived there for a long time. It felt a bit desolate. Strangely, despite being uninhabited, the windows were spotless, and even the flowers on the dining table were fresh.

Someone must be responsible for cleaning this place.

Scarlett walked in, glanced around, and then paused at the bookshelf on the right side of the entrance. The bookshelf was full, mostly with medical books, many of which seemed to have been read multiple times, their spines worn out.

"Did your wife live here?"

The style and decoration in the apartment were somewhat inconsistent. The overall framework was simple, but the details revealed the owner's aesthetic taste.

She liked it a lot.

Sebastian nodded, one hand in his pocket. "To be precise, you lived here. To be even more precise, we lived here."

He gave a warm smile, just for a moment, but it was meaningful.

The double sofa in the living room and the bedroom door bore their marks, but now they were just his memories alone.

Scarlett rubbed her forehead. "Sebastian, how many times do I need to emphasize? I am not your wife!"

Sebastian shrugged. "It doesn't matter. You were before, and you will be in the future. That's enough."

Scarlett was at a loss for words in the face of Sebastian's persistence.

She walked around the living room and saw a photo frame on the glass coffee table in front of the sofa. Scarlett was drawn to it, sat down, and picked it up to look.

In the photo, Brooklyn was wearing a white lab coat, with a stethoscope hanging around her neck. One hand was tucked into the large pocket, and she smiled at the camera. Her smile wasn't an attempt to be cute or silly, nor did it exhibit the cold seriousness of a professional woman—it exuded a natural confidence and an air of detachment from within.

It was the first time Scarlett had seen a photo of Brooklyn. She couldn't help but pinch her own face for comparison. "Do I look like her? Not at all."

She even tried to mimic Brooklyn's smile, with upturned lips and slightly curved eyes, but no matter how many times she tried, it didn't quite match.

Sebastian leaned against the door frame, watching her silly smile. Based on their current appearances, Scarlett and Brooklyn had almost no resemblance. "You look very different now. But I must admit, your plastic surgery was very successful, there's no trace of it."

Scarlett put down the photo and said seriously, "Sebastian, telling a woman she's had plastic surgery is an insult. I don't want to hear it a second time."

Plastic surgery? His imagination was too wild, he should write fantasy novels.

She opened the bedroom door, and the light purple decor almost took her breath away. "Your wife's aesthetic is very refreshing."

Brooklyn's taste was indeed refreshing, and it also showed her elegant and aloof personality. Purple was not a color just anyone could pull off.

Sebastian nodded. "In that regard, you do have something to learn from her. Her wardrobe is more colorful than yours. Why not try it, colors can change a person's mood."

In the mirror, Scarlett saw herself in a simple loungewear outfit, very plain. Well, she had been wearing this loungewear all day, from the restaurant to the apartment building, getting her money's worth.

"Simpler clothes make for a simpler life. How could I compare to your wife, who lived such a grand life?"

Sebastian scrutinized Scarlett. "Doesn't this place look familiar? Haven't you thought of anything? You slept in this bed for three years, don't you remember?"

Scarlett bent down to touch the new bedding. "Three years? Are you saying this was her room before marriage?"

Sebastian frowned. "No."

"So, after you got married, you lived in this small apartment?" That seemed highly unlikely.

Sebastian frowned again. "No."

"So, you lived apart after getting married? You claim to love her deeply, but you didn't even share a bed? Sebastian, I almost feel sorry for you."

Sebastian's reaction was incredibly calm. He looked leisurely at her provocative smile. "That doesn't matter either. I'll use the next years to make up for it."

His smile was dark and arrogant, making her heart race with fear.

Why did his words always seem to imply, "I love you! For thirty years, fifty years, and more."

She didn't like this feeling!

"We've seen the house. If there's nothing else, can we go back now?" If they stayed any longer, she feared Sebastian's twisted side might come out.

"Okay." He agreed readily.

It seemed that nothing here triggered her memory. He felt a bit disappointed but didn't let it dampen his spirits. He opened the car door for her, letting her sit in the passenger seat, and personally fastened her seatbelt.

Scarlett turned to look at him. "What are you doing?"

He leaned into the car, one hand on the back of her seat, the other on the window. "I like it."

His words effectively shut Scarlett up.

Scarlett not speaking, and him not speaking either, the scenery of Aucester passed by outside the window, and the deep blue sky was overhead. The quiet atmosphere surprisingly made everything feel beautiful.

Sebastian, holding the steering wheel, turned his head and asked, "Do you want to listen to some music?"

Honestly, she was really not used to his gentleness!

"Okay!"

Sebastian drove very carefully, adhering strictly to safety rules. He had never driven so cautiously in his life. "I'm not convenient, you can turn on the player yourself and listen to whatever you like."

"Okay."

She decided to just listen to the car radio. At this time, there were usually a lot of music programs on the radio, so she turned to a channel.

"Lovely, never, never change, Keep that breathless charm, Won't you please arrange it? 'Cause I love you, Just the way you look tonight…"

Scarlett felt awkward. Fortunately, with her head down, he couldn't see her expression. She quickly changed the channel, "If I should stay, I would only be in your way, So I'll go, but I know, I'll think of you every step of the way, And I will always love you, I will always love you…"

Another love song!

Scarlett squinted in frustration, wanting to smash the radio open to see if Sebastian had tampered with it!

Sebastian continued to drive calmly, clearly enjoying the current moment. As Scarlett adjusted the channels, her head tilted slightly towards him, and a strand of her hair fell onto his lap, gently swaying with her movements, brushing against his skin through his pants.

The music was soft, the rhythm soothing. He hadn't felt this way in a long time!

It was truly delightful!

Unwilling to give up, Scarlett continued to adjust the channels, "You'll be the only one, 'cause no one can deny, This love I have inside, And I'll give it all to you, My love, My love, my love, My endless love, My endless love!"

She simply turned off the radio, sat back in the passenger seat, and looked at the dazzling neon lights, suppressing the small discomfort in her heart. "I'm going to take a nap."

Sebastian, in a great mood, nodded. "Okay."

She really fell asleep soon. Sebastian smiled helplessly, "Brooklyn?"

Scarlett was asleep, leaning against the seat, her head tilted uncomfortably. He reached out to adjust her head to a more comfortable position.

He indulgently and almost luxuriously touched her hair and her profile.

The car stopped outside the villa. Sebastian got out, gently holding the sleeping Scarlett into his arms, and used his arm as a pillow for her. Under the moonlight, he looked at her and murmured, "Brooklyn, we're home."

Averlake, Emporcia, Blue Sky International Group CEO's office.

Kevin, dressed in a dark blue suit, stood by the window with a slowly burning cigarette between his fingers. The scent of tobacco gradually spread from his hand to half the office. The ash had grown quite long, yet he hadn't flicked it off or taken a single puff.

"Mr. King, this is Ms. Taylor's entire schedule. She has now returned to Sebastian's villa. When she came back..." His assistant reported.

"That's enough." Kevin stopped his assistant, Bobby Hamilton, and took a stack of photos from him.

In the photos, Scarlett was wearing loungewear, getting into a white Maserati, then at a restaurant... In the last photo, Kevin's hand paused, his eyes narrowing slightly. His fingers trembled, and ash fell onto the white floor, leaving a grayish-white spot.

Sebastian was holding Scarlett, smiling with deep affection.

These days, he had been monitoring Scarlett's schedule daily. But so far, this was the only image that made him feel uneasy.

Had he really been too lenient with her? Had she forgotten her place?

He threw the stack of photos onto the mahogany desk, took a puff of his cigarette, and exhaled a ring of smoke. "Bobby, hasn't the Taylor Group's stock price been a bit too stable lately?"

Bobby's head snapped up. "Mr. King's meaning is..."

Kevin took another puff, turned slightly, and exhaled smoke. "The Taylor Group's stock price is too stable. What else could it mean?"

Bobby understood and nodded. "I get it!"

Kevin's long fingers pinched the cigarette butt, pressing it into the ashtray with force, crushing it.

The next day, the Taylor Group's stock hit the limit down as soon as the market opened.

Leon sat in his office, frowning deeply. How could the stock suddenly hit the limit down? Since the Taylor Group started collaborating with Blue Sky International Group, this had never happened before.

The Taylor Group's stock had actually hit the limit down! In the Taylor Group's business history, this was a rare occurrence!

Sure enough, as soon as the stock hit the limit down, Leon's phone started ringing off the hook. Directors were urgently asking what had gone wrong, and some were worriedly asking if there would be another bankruptcy crisis.

In the financial world, it's common to go from riches to rags overnight, there were too many examples!

Leon responded to each call and notified everyone of an emergency board meeting in an hour.

But then, a news article suddenly popped up on his computer.

[Blue Sky International Group CEO Kevin King's fiancée, Scarlett Taylor, was found in Libertya with a man in an intimate relationship. Scarlett and Kevin are suspected of having an affair. Will the collaboration between Blue Sky International Group and the Taylor Group also collapse?]

Leon straightened his back in shock! He was completely taken aback!

What shocked him even more was that below the text was a high-resolution photo of Scarlett lying in a strange man's arms, the man's face pixelated.

What was going on!

Dear CEO, Please Be Gentle!
