Chapter 245 Flipped Over the Wall
Brooklyn slumped wearily onto the couch, her damp hair unkempt and her eyes closed in exhaustion. She had fallen asleep without bothering to dry herself off.
At the hospital, Zach searched in vain for Brooklyn. She wasn't at work, and panic gripped him. He thought, 'Where could she have gone?'
As he mulled over the possibilities in his office, a burning anxiety consumed him. Brooklyn couldn't be in danger; he wouldn't allow it.
When someone came by with patient files, Zach waved them away without a word. He wasn't in the mood for anything until he had news about Brooklyn.
Throughout his drive to the hospital, he'd overheard countless conversations slamming Mitchell Group and Brooklyn. The hospital was awash with gossip and scathing comments about the Mitchell family, the Kingsley family, and the ongoing chaos surrounding Brooklyn and Susie. The barrage of negativity was unbearable.
His frustration reached its peak. Brooklyn's reputation mattered more to him than his own; he couldn't stand to hear people talk her down.
"Get back to work!" Zach roared, his voice echoing through the corridors. "If I hear another word of nonsense, I'll have you all out of here!"
It was a rare outburst for Zach, who usually kept his emotions in check, but at that moment, he was simply a man fighting to protect Brooklyn's honor.
As the doctors and nurses quickly retreated, Zach slammed his fist against the office desk, nearly splitting it with the force of his anger.
He thought, 'Sebastian, if you can't protect her, step aside! Don't cause her any more harm!'
Meanwhile, Kelly had seen the news about the Mitchell family and was so shocked she bumped her head on the car roof as she scrambled out. The pain barely registered as she processed the news.
"What's going on? How did Mitchell Group..."
That wasn't the point. The real issue was Brooklyn, standing alone in front of the villa, taking the brunt of angry shareholders' abuse. She had been pelted with who knew how many eggs by the enraged mob!
Brooklyn was enduring this humiliation because of Seraphina and Susie's scheming!
"Those scumbags!"
Kelly fumed as she got back into the car. "Drive! We need to find Brooklyn!"
She dialed Brooklyn's number repeatedly, but it went straight to voicemail every time.
Brooklyn, pick up! Whatever's going on, we can face it together. Don't try to handle everything on your own!
But Brooklyn's phone stubbornly indicated no answer, and soon, it was off.
As the car sped through the streets, Kelly's phone rang.
It was Zach.
"Ms. Wilson, where does she live? I can't reach her."
Zach was clearly worried, and Kelly could sense his desperation.
"I can't reach her either. But she has two possible places she might be. I'll head to the villa; you check her apartment. I'll send you the address."
"Got it! I'm heading out now!"
Kelly clenched her teeth. "Dr. Carter, even though Brooklyn and Sebastian's relationship is public knowledge now, but..."
"I know," Zach cut her off. "This isn't the time to discuss that. We need to split up and make sure Brooklyn is safe."
Zach's calm and composed demeanor helped Kelly regain her focus. She nodded, "You're right. Our priority is her safety."
After hanging up, Kelly called out, "Head to Bayside Villas!"
Zach couldn't go to the villa; it was up to her. But she hoped Brooklyn wouldn't be at the villa right now, avoiding the judgmental eyes of the Kingsley family.
"Zach, don't give up on Brooklyn. You have to hold on! Hang in there!"
The black sedan arrived, and Zach headed straight for the elevator. He moved swiftly, his presence commanding attention. His usual refined demeanor was overshadowed by a palpable sense of urgency and distress.
When the elevator doors opened, Zach stood in front of Brooklyn's apartment, pressing the doorbell. There was no answer.
"Dr. Mitchell! Dr. Mitchell!"
He pounded on the door, calling out for her, but there was no response.
"Brooklyn, are you in there?"
Still no reply. He thought, 'Could she be at the villa after all?'
Kelly's call came through just in time. "Dr. Carter, Brooklyn isn't at the villa. She must be at her apartment. Her phone is off, but I'm sure she's inside. It's her refuge; she wouldn't go anywhere else."
Zach nodded, "Don't worry, I'll make sure she's okay."
"I'm heading over now. Make sure she's safe."
After ending the call, Zach continued to knock. "Brooklyn, open up. Don't hide from me. Let's face this together. Let me be there with you."
Zach's attempts to force the door failed. A neighbor from the adjoining unit opened her door, looking puzzled.
"Isn't this someone new? It wasn't you last time."
Although it was a different person, this young man seemed well-mannered and sophisticated, very different from the Sebastian she remembered. Both were striking in their own ways.
The neighbor's curiosity was piqued.
The neighbor thought, 'Who exactly is Brooklyn?
There haven't been any men around before, but recently, two very handsome ones have shown up!'
Zach didn't have time for explanations. He asked urgently, "Did you see anyone enter?"
The neighbor nodded, still bewildered. "I did see her this morning. She looked quite disheveled when she came in."
Zach thought, 'She must be inside, the poor thing. She's probably hiding to recover.'
Zach knew he had to find a way in.
The building had four units per floor. He could climb through the window from the adjacent unit.
"I need to use your balcony. Please help—she's in danger."
The neighbor was confused, but Zach's refined demeanor convinced her he wasn't a threat. She hesitated but then nodded. "Okay."
Brooklyn lived on the sixteenth floor. The gap between windows wasn't huge, but climbing between them without proper equipment was risky. A slip could mean a fatal fall.
Zach stepped onto the balcony, clambering over the railing. His body pressed against the glass window, ready to make the risky move.
