Chapter 579 Darling, You Actually Brought Another Man Home

Brooklyn carried Ronnie upstairs, changed into her scrubs, grabbed her car keys, and noticed Ronnie clinging to her like a lifeline, his eyes never leaving her.

She placed Ronnie in the front passenger seat and buckled him in. "Ronnie, don't fall asleep yet. Wait until we get home, okay?"

If he fell asleep, he might slide off the seat, and safety was paramount.

Brooklyn didn't have much experience with kids, but she had dealt with many young patients and had developed a knack for handling them.

Every child had a way to be managed.

Ronnie obediently nodded, clearly responding well to Brooklyn's gentle approach. "Okay, I won't sleep."

Brooklyn patted his head and spoke softly, "Good boy! We're almost home. Just hang in there a little longer."

She mimicked Ronnie's tone, chatting with him the entire drive, racking her brain for topics that might interest him.

By the time they reached the house, Brooklyn felt more exhausted from entertaining Ronnie than from treating patients.

Finally, they arrived at the house.

Ronnie's eyes widened in amazement as he took in the sight of the mansion. "Ms. Mitchell, are you a princess? My teacher said only princesses live in castles."

Brooklyn laughed, pinching his little nose. "Yep, I'm a princess, and you are a little prince. So, you get to live in a castle too. Do you like it?"

"I love it!"

Kids were easy to please with good food, fun activities, and interesting sights.

A servant came out to greet Brooklyn. "Mrs. Kingsley, this child..."

"He's the child of one of my patients. Is there any food left in the kitchen?"

"Yes, there is. I'll heat it up for you right away. We've been waiting for you." The servant, clearly tired, couldn't help but yawn.

Brooklyn chuckled. "Just heat up the food and then go rest. You don't need to stay up."

"Yes, Mrs. Kingsley."

Brooklyn, feeling exhausted, ran a warm bath for Ronnie. Considering his age, she decided to bathe him herself.

Ronnie sat in the tub, his soft little body exploring everything with curiosity. "Ms. Mitchell, your house is so big. So this is what a castle looks like."

Brooklyn lathered up some body wash in her hands and gently scrubbed Ronnie. The body wash had a light camellia scent, safe for children despite being an adult product.

Ronnie took a deep breath, enjoying the fragrance. "Ms. Mitchell, what is this smell? It smells so good!"

"That's camellia," Brooklyn explained patiently.

Ronnie nodded. "My mom likes roses, but I think... camellia is better."

Brooklyn laughed at his comment.

She then lathered some shampoo in her hands and washed Ronnie's hair. "Do you like this scent?"

She used Sebastian shampoo, which had a subtle agave fragrance, more suited for men.

Ronnie took another deep breath. "I like it! I like this one too!"

Kids were always so easily swayed.

"So, which one do you like more?"

The question stumped him. "I like both... Ms. Mitchell, can I like both?"

"Of course you can."

After the bath, Brooklyn wrapped Ronnie in a soft towel. "Ronnie, do you think you can sleep alone tonight?"

Ronnie shook his head. "I always sleep with my mom and dad. Dad on the left, mom on the right, and me in the middle."

Brooklyn was taken aback by his honesty. "Alright, tonight you'll sleep with me."

"Okay!"

The clock on the wall showed it was already 1 AM. Brooklyn yawned, feeling the fatigue. "Ronnie, I'm going downstairs to eat. Are you hungry?"

Ronnie rubbed his tummy. "I'm not hungry, but... can I eat with you?"

"Why not? Of course, you can. But Ronnie, it's very late. Eating now might make it hard to sleep. Are you sure you want to eat?" Brooklyn ruffled his hair, feeling a strange warmth from this unexpected child.

"I don't want to sleep alone, so..." Ronnie's voice was soft and sweet, typical of a two-year-old who couldn't fully articulate his thoughts.

Brooklyn understood. Leaving a child alone in a big bed would naturally scare him.

She found a T-shirt from Sebastian's wardrobe, but it was way too big for Ronnie. The shirt's hem touched the floor, and the sleeves covered his arms entirely.

Ronnie looked up at Brooklyn. "Ms. Mitchell, this shirt is huge. Even my dad's clothes aren't this big. Is the owner of this shirt very tall?"

Brooklyn stifled a laugh. "Yes, he's very tall. Let me find you something else."

But Ronnie shook his head. "Ms. Mitchell, can I wear this? I like the smell of this shirt. I want to wear it."

Brooklyn smiled. "Sure, if you like it, you can wear it."

She tied a knot at the back of the shirt, turning it into a makeshift robe. Ronnie looked adorable in it.

She couldn't help but wonder what Sebastian would think if he saw this.

Brooklyn snapped a photo of Ronnie to share with Sebastian later.

They went downstairs to eat. Brooklyn, having performed surgery for hours and then dealt with the emergency room, was both hungry and exhausted. But her fatigue soon overpowered her hunger, and she could only manage a few bites.

"Ronnie, let's go to bed."

"Okay!"

"You go ahead and sleep. I'll brush my teeth and join you soon. Take my phone. If you get scared, you can play with it for a bit. I'll be quick."

"Okay!"

Ronnie obediently lay in bed, playing with Brooklyn's phone. Brooklyn quickly showered, washed her face, and brushed her teeth.

The day had been exhausting, like a battle.

Ronnie's little fingers accidentally dialed a number on the phone.

Sebastian, who was reviewing documents, saw his phone ring. It was Brooklyn calling.

He answered, "Hey, sweetheart? Still awake?"

Ronnie, startled by the man's voice, quickly hid the phone under the pillow.

Brooklyn, yawning, climbed into bed. "Ronnie, why aren't you asleep yet?"

Sebastian's brows furrowed. Ronnie? Who was Brooklyn talking to?

Ronnie, still wide awake, looked at her. "Ms. Mitchell, can you tell me the story of Rapunzel again?"

This kid had a great memory. She had only mentioned Rapunzel once, and he remembered.

Sebastian's expression grew complex. It was a child's voice. Who had Brooklyn brought home while he was away?

"Alright, lie down, and I'll tell you."

"Okay! Ms. Mitchell, go ahead."

Sebastian leaned back on his couch, listening to Brooklyn's story.

"Once upon a time, there was a princess with very long hair. She lived in a tower with a witch. Her hair was as bright as gold, and she sang beautiful songs. Birds would come to listen to her sing... Then, a prince came along..."

Her soft voice narrated the story vividly.

Sebastian moved to his bed, listening to Brooklyn's story while reviewing his documents. Her voice soothed him, easing the day's stress and pain.

A smile crept onto his lips as he enjoyed the moment.

"And so, the princess and the prince lived happily ever after." Brooklyn finished the story and saw that Ronnie had fallen asleep, clutching her arm.

"Finally asleep," She whispered, adjusting the blanket over him. It felt strange to sleep with a child, as she was used to being held by Sebastian.

"Sweetheart, I leave for one day, and you're already sleeping with another man?"

The deep voice startled Brooklyn, making her almost fall out of bed. "Who?"

"It's me, your husband. Check your phone."

The warm, affectionate voice made Brooklyn's heart skip a beat. She found her phone under the pillow and saw it was still on a call, which had lasted over twenty minutes.

Brooklyn felt embarrassed.

"Why didn't you say anything earlier?" She asked, lowering her voice to avoid waking Ronnie.

"I wanted to hear you tell a story... You tell them so well. I almost fell asleep listening."

All his pain and stress vanished, replaced by thoughts of her. The large bed felt empty without her.

"Alright, stop teasing me and go to sleep," Brooklyn said, feeling her face heat up.

Sebastian smiled, "Okay, but shouldn't you explain who this man in my bed is?"

Brooklyn glanced at Ronnie, feeling exasperated. "He's the child of a patient. His parents were in a car accident and are currently unconscious. He has no one to take care of him, and their IDs are in Aqua Vista City. I couldn't send him back alone, so I brought him here."

"Aqua Vista City?" Sebastian nodded. "Alright, get some sleep. I miss you."

His voice was tender.

"Wait, I took a photo of him. I'll send it to you."

"Okay."

Brooklyn sent the photo of Ronnie in Sebastian's T-shirt: [I miss you too. Goodnight, darling.]

After hanging up, Sebastian opened the photo.

Ronnie's smiling face, wrapped in his oversized T-shirt, looked adorable.

But as Sebastian looked at the child's face, his eyes narrowed.

He quickly scanned his computer screen, finding the information he needed. Aqua Vista City's Director of Planning and Development, Eugene Gutierrez, had a son named Leroy Gutierrez, who had a son named Ronnie Gutierrez.

In Eugene's family photo, he held his grandson Ronnie, the same child in Brooklyn's photo.
