Chapter 59 Pretending to Live Together

The Elite Manor was a grand private residence, its luxurious expanse occupying half a floor. Nestled in the crisp white sheets, Sebastian lay languidly, his slender arm tracing circles on his forehead.

Beyond the towering floor-to-ceiling windows, the city was waking up to a morning that was drenched in rain, the downpour claiming almost half the cityscape.

The sound of Brooklyn's voice reached Sebastian's ears, prompting a subtle relaxation of his furrowed brows. This minute shift in his demeanor seemed to cast the rainy weather in a more appealing light, its beauty suddenly magnified in his eyes.

Brooklyn, on the other hand, strained to decipher his response amidst the faint rustling sounds that echoed on the line. She was left wondering about his actions, his prolonged silence on the phone, and whether he was deliberately testing her patience or trying to provoke her.

As she kept a watchful eye on Quinn, Brooklyn waited for Sebastian's response, her anger simmering beneath the surface. The thought of the two men testing her endurance so early in the morning was enough to make her clench her teeth in frustration.

Sebastian, meanwhile, rose from the bed, the blanket falling away to reveal his bare upper body. His tall, muscular frame moved with a certain grace as he walked barefoot to the window, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the rain-soaked glass.

Brooklyn, growing increasingly impatient, was on the verge of reprimanding him when Sebastian finally spoke. "Don't mind him, I'll handle it," he said, his words doing little to placate her.

She had waited so long for such a dismissive response?

Just as she was about to end the call in a fit of anger, Sebastian's voice echoed once more. "Bring the stuff from the first-floor bathroom up, I'll need it in half an hour," he instructed before abruptly hanging up.

Brooklyn stared at her phone in confusion, the meaning behind Sebastian's words eluding her.

Sebastian, on the other hand, stood by the window, a faint smile playing on his lips as he looked out at the city.

A few seconds later, Brooklyn watched as Quinn answered a phone call. His initial excitement quickly gave way to a pale, shocked expression. Standing silently by the door, Brooklyn observed the gamut of emotions that played out on Quinn's face, wondering about the sudden turn of events. Who could have possibly called him? Could it be Sebastian?

As she pondered, Quinn grabbed his umbrella and hurriedly got into his car. The vehicle sped away, disappearing into the rain-soaked city, leaving behind a palpable sense of resentment.

Brooklyn ran her fingers through her hair, a sigh of relief escaping her lips. She cast a glance at the first-floor bathroom, her teeth biting into her lower lip in contemplation.

Half an hour later, Brooklyn was fully dressed and ready. She was in the midst of her morning routine when she looked up to find Sebastian's handsome face reflected in the bathroom mirror.

The sight startled her, causing her to let out a scream.

It was terrifying! One moment she was leaning over to spit out mouthwash, and the next, there was another face in the mirror. Despite its handsomeness, the sudden appearance was horrifying.

"Sebastian, you scared me to death!" Brooklyn exclaimed, her hand clutching her pounding heart. The shock of the moment had nearly driven her mad. Was he a ghost?

Sebastian merely glanced at her, his eyes meeting hers in the mirror. His voice was lazy and hoarse, tinged with a hint of anger, as if he hadn't slept enough. "Quinn will be here soon, take off your clothes."

Brooklyn, still sporting a bit of toothpaste foam on her mouth, stared at Sebastian's expressionless face in disbelief. "Take off my clothes?"

Leaning against the bathroom door, Sebastian reiterated his instructions. "If you don't want him to find out that we're not really living together, then do as I say."

Earlier, Sebastian had sternly warned Quinn over the phone not to disturb their morning, instructing him to stay away for half an hour before returning. If he failed to comply, he wouldn't be allowed back into the villa that day.

Now, they were about to put on a performance, pretending to have just woken up, for Quinn's benefit.

Brooklyn complied, shedding her clothes and donning a robe. She let her hair down, tousling it a few times to create a disheveled look.

Sebastian observed from the bedroom, his gaze cold and detached. Brooklyn, pretending to be alone, changed her clothes and turned to look at Sebastian. He was still clad in the same pants and white shirt as before, showing no intention of changing.

"She had barely uttered a single word when the doorbell chimed once more. Sebastian's face, a mask of stoic indifference, remained unchanged. "Aren't you going to answer the door?" His voice was not particularly loud, but it carried an undeniable authority that commanded attention. With ease, he directed Brooklyn to the task at hand.

"Are you just now waking, Sister-in-law?" Quinn's tone held a note of discontent as he set down his umbrella, shaking the rainwater from his shoulders. He stole a discreet glance at Brooklyn, who was still clad in her pajamas and appeared somewhat fatigued. Her hands were tucked into the pockets of her robe, a faint floral scent wafting from her.

Brooklyn opened the shoe cabinet in the foyer, extracting a brand-new pair of men's slippers. "You're early, Mr. Kingsley. Should I commend your diligence or remind you that it's unkind to disturb others at such an hour?" she asked, her tone nonchalant.
