Chapter 293 The Virus Has Spread

Sebastian, with zero pity in his voice, said, "Megan, Megan, there's no future between us. No matter what tricks you pull, I ain't marrying you. Got it?"

Tears streamed down Megan's face as she sobbed quietly, looking all heartbroken. "Sebastian, you don't have to keep saying it. I know. I just can't stop loving you. I love you. I'd die for you. Don't you get that?"

"Enough!" He cut her off, not wanting to hear another word.

Megan struggled to throw off the blanket, propped herself up, and slowly moved to Sebastian's side. Kneeling on the carpet under his cold gaze, she grabbed his hands and said, "Sebastian, even if you see me as nothing, I won't complain. I'll raise our kid right, just like Quinn's mom did."

"Enough! I said, enough!" Sebastian shouted, shaking off Megan's hands and throwing her harshly onto the carpet. He stormed to the window, breathing heavily.

Megan wiped her tears, secretly glancing at the vibrant lilies, a determined, cold smile creeping onto her face.

"And Megan, you saved my life five years ago. Today, I saved yours. We're even now. You don't need to remind me of what happened five years ago," Sebastian said, clenching his hand in his pocket. The events of five years ago could finally be put to rest, and he no longer felt any unease.

Megan looked up in shock, staring in disbelief at Sebastian's resolute back. The smile on her face froze.

"Even when hospitalized, a top star like Megan has such a grand setup, a VIP room along with four bodyguards at the door. She's quite something big."

"That's not all. I heard from the nurse taking care of Megan that Sebastian is inside too. It's just the two of them in the room."

"No way! Didn't Sebastian publicly announce that his wife is Dr. Mitchell? Dr. Mitchell even resigned, probably to become a full-time wife."

"You don't get it. For a rich man, his wife is just for show. The real woman in Sebastian's heart is still the star, Megan!"

"No wonder Dr. Mitchell is also in the hospital, and it seems no one is taking care of her. So pitiful."

Brooklyn's book slipped from her hand and fell onto the bed as she heard every word of the nurses' conversation outside the door.

Her heart felt like it was being stabbed, the pain so intense that the wound could bleed.

'He really is in Megan's room, really...' she thought.

As she closed her eyes, tears streamed down her face. Brooklyn's fingers gripped the corner of the blanket so tightly that it almost caused a spasm. "Brooklyn, time is changing."

As she closed her eyes in pain, a sharp voice came from the door. It was Piper.

Brooklyn picked up her book, wiped away her tears, and looked at her coldly. "Piper, what are you doing here?"

Piper had her hands in the pockets of her white coat and mocked, "Your husband is with another woman, and you're here alone. Must be lonely, right?"

Brooklyn's expression was as cold as frost flowers blooming in deep snow as she shouted, "Get out."

She wished her words could turn into arrows and shut Piper up for good.

But Piper just strutted to the window, her makeup making her look even more ruthless. "Dr. Mitchell, do you know how many people are just waiting for you to kick the bucket? You're pretty useless when you're alive. Oh, you'd be worth a lot."

Zach was in surgery, too busy to check on her. Now Brooklyn was just a patient anyone could mess with.

Brooklyn clenched her fists and locked eyes with Piper. "Piper, if Zach knew what kind of person you really are, he'd never like you. Get out. I don't want to see you."

Piper slowly stood up and sneered, "Dr. Mitchell, Sebastian and Megan are spending the night together in the hospital. I hope you live to see tomorrow and watch him snuggle up with Megan."

Brooklyn hurled her book at Piper, the hard edge smacking her arm. "Get out!"

Piper pulled a few folded papers from her pocket and shoved them into Brooklyn's hand, whispering, "These are the blood tests I did for you while you were out cold. The virus in your body is starting to backfire. Zach's keeping your privacy safe, and I don't want the hospital to suffer a scandal, either."

Brooklyn opened the test results and felt utterly hopeless.

It was dark, and the hospital was eerily quiet.

Megan and Sebastian sat in the living room of the hospital room. The dining table was set with a fancy dinner, but Sebastian didn't even touch his fork. His gaze was cold and distant.

Megan tried everything she could, but Sebastian didn't say a word. From dusk till now, he hadn't spoken a single word to her.

"It's late. Go to sleep." After over an hour of silence, this was the first thing Sebastian said to Megan.

Megan asked, "Will you stay here with me?"

Sebastian didn't respond, and Megan lay down, looking at him. "Sebastian, thank you for staying with me."

Sebastian irritably looked away.

About half an hour later, he was sure Megan was asleep.

"Megan?" he called with no response.

Sebastian opened the glass door to the balcony. The wards were adjacent, and the windows were connected. He turned and climbed out the window, his long legs crossing over to the neighboring balcony. In a flash, he was in the next room. Without caring who was inside, he turned the doorknob and quickly walked down the hallway.

'Brooklyn, wait for me,' he thought.

Within ten seconds, Sebastian had run from the 20th floor to the 19th. He stood at the door of room 1903, his long fingers hesitating for a moment as guilt and remorse overwhelmed him.

After a moment's thought, he didn't ring the doorbell. Instead, he turned the doorknob gently, and the door opened.

The room was pitch black, the windows tightly shut, and the curtains drawn. He couldn't see the room's layout or the person on the bed but a vague outline.

Sebastian sighed in relief, walked over to the bed, and spoke in a low, gentle voice. "Brooklyn, I'm sorry I'm late. Something happened, and I couldn't be with you. That was my fault. From now on, I'll stay with you and never leave."
