Chapter 460 The Culprit of the Kidnapping Case Years Ago

Aucester Hospital

"Wow! The chairman of Infinite International Group, James, actually donated ten million dollars to our hospital. That's quite generous, truly fitting for the boss of a big corporation."

"Ten million dollars is considered generous? A boss of his level should be donating a hundred million dollars to match his status. Ten million dollars, and he has the nerve to call it generous."

"Besides, when did our hospital ever need such donations? When our Mr. Kingsley makes a move, forget about a hundred million dollars, even ten billion dollars is just a flick of the wrist!"

"Our hospital has always been known for its wealth. What is James trying to do here? Seeking attention?"

"Anyway, it's still a good thing. Nowadays, aren't most rich people heartless? At least James shows some social responsibility."

"That's true."

The hospital hallway buzzed with chatter early in the morning. Everyone was debating James' donation to Aucester Hospital—some praised him, some criticized him, and a few stayed neutral.

Brooklyn sat in the office, holding a medical case file, and couldn't help but smile when she heard the news.

How much pressure did Sebastian put on James that he would go to such lengths to please Sebastian? It was really puzzling.

But thinking about Sebastian's usual methods of dealing with people, Brooklyn felt a bit nervous for James and Piper.

"Arabella, come in for a moment." she called out.

Arabella, who was called, quickly walked into the office. "What's up, Dr. Mitchell?"

Brooklyn looked up at the smiling Arabella, scrutinized her, and asked, "You seem to be in a good mood. Did the finance department give you a raise?"

Arabella shrugged. "No, it's already good enough that the finance department doesn't make me pay out of pocket. A raise? I'd laugh myself awake from dreaming."

"Oh? So, what good thing happened to make you so happy?"

Arabella took a few steps forward, lowered her voice, and said with a smile, "Haven't you heard? Next week, our hospital is having a charity consultation event. It's voluntary, and I heard Dr. Carter will be participating."

Arabella's laughter lasted for several seconds before ending. Brooklyn frowned at her the whole time, making Arabella cover her mouth and cough. "Well, I like Dr. Carter, you know, so I'll definitely seize this opportunity! Also, last time I bought Dr. Carter coffee based on your suggestion, and he said it tasted great."

Brooklyn frowned. "Did you buy it from the hospital?"

"Yeah."

Tasted great? Zach's coffee standards were top-notch. Regular coffee? It didn't stand a chance with him., yet he said it was great.

Was he being polite to Arabella? Or did he have a slight interest in her?

The truth was temporarily unknown.

Brooklyn smiled, "Since he thinks it's great, you can buy it for him often. As for next week's event, if you want to participate, I'll suspend your work here so you can prepare well."

"Really! Dr. Mitchell, I love you to death! I promise to perform well! Oh! By the way, what did you call me in for?" Arabella was so focused on talking about her own matters that she completely forgot about the task from her superior.

Brooklyn handed her a case file, shaking her head helplessly. "This is the information for the patient in bed number two. Study it well; such special cases are rare and can help you learn a lot."

"Great! I knew I was following the right person." Arabella hugged the case file with both hands but didn't leave immediately. She bit her lip and looked down at Brooklyn sitting in the chair. "I want to ask, does Dr. Carter have someone he likes, or is there someone who likes Dr. Carter?"

"Yes."

Arabella's face fell, and her excitement was halved. "So, he has someone he likes. I thought he, the abstinent man, wouldn't fancy any woman."

Brooklyn shook her head with a smile. "It's not someone he likes, but someone who likes him. You know her, Dr. Rivera from the cardiology department. She's your rival if you want to pursue Dr. Carter."

Arabella's eyes narrowed. "Piper? Got it!"

Watching Arabella leave the office, Brooklyn played with the pen in her hand, her lips curling up. 'Piper, it seems I don't necessarily have to deal with you personally.'

If Arabella looked back now, she would surely realize that she had unknowingly become a tool for Brooklyn. She might be furious, but being used wasn't necessarily bad, especially when it was against an enemy she also wanted to deal with.

Brooklyn's phone rang at this moment.

When the name on the screen flashed, Brooklyn's mood brightened.

"Where have you been lately?" she asked.

Kelly made several clicking sounds. "Brooklyn, you really know how to surprise me. Oh, I almost couldn't hold back in Gallonia, wanting to come back and hug you for thirty minutes. Honestly, did you deliberately release explosive news while I was out of the country? And you didn't even contact me! That's too much! I'm upset! I just got off the plane, and you must make it up to me today!"

Kelly's voice was loud and full of complaints.

Brooklyn was helpless, "You asked me so many questions at once, how can I answer them all? Let's talk when we meet tonight. I'll treat you to whatever you want to eat."

Kelly, dragging her suitcase out of the airport, looked at the long-lost sky of her homeland and took a deep breath. "I've been suffocating in Gallonia for so long. Let's go for a drink tonight! I'll choose the place, and you pay!"

"Okay."

"Oh, darling, I have so much to tell you! Eight o'clock tonight, don't be late! I'm going to interrogate you thoroughly tonight! Hmph!"

Hearing Kelly's voice, Brooklyn seemed to be pulled into distant memories. Thinking of the past, her brows relaxed, and she readily agreed, "Alright! I'll do as you say tonight."

After hanging up Kelly's call, Brooklyn checked the time and then sent a text message to Sebastian.

MBK

"Mr. Kingsley, this is the work summary for this quarter. Below is the work plan for the next quarter. Also, after the Averlake project restarts, some detailed plans need your verification."

Sebastian nodded. "Go ahead."

The marketing, sales, and finance managers sat rigidly during their presentations, each nervously watching their words, terrified of angering Sebastian.

The projector continuously flashed progress charts, budgets, and other crucial information. Even Quinn, who usually slept through most meetings, had to focus on the analysis.

This was too professional; a slight distraction could leave one lost.

Sebastian's phone vibrated at this moment.

Picking up the phone, Sebastian's lips curved slightly. "I need to make a call."

Everyone looked at Sebastian, but before they could respond, Sebastian had already picked up the phone and left the conference room.

Quinn took a sip of coffee. Sebastian making a call during a meeting was rare. No need to guess who it was for.

Oh, having a wife was great!

Sebastian called Brooklyn back immediately. As soon as the call connected, he asked, "What time tonight? Where are you going? Who's going?"

Brooklyn couldn't believe it was Sebastian calling. The questions were too detailed, weren't they? Didn't he usually not care?

He actually called to ask for details?

"The bar in Amber District, with Kelly. She just returned from Gallonia, probably no one else." Such an answer should be detailed enough, right?

Sebastian frowned. Kelly? Drinking with her would only be the two of them? He absolutely didn't believe that.

He sighed, "Take a cab, drink less alcohol, eat something before drinking, and keep a bottle of milk in your bag."

Brooklyn looked at her phone. Was this really Sebastian?

"Okay. But, how do you have time to call? Aren't you in a meeting?"

It was a long-standing rule that holding the weekly meeting every Monday morning—without fail.

"What's a meeting compared to my wife?" Sebastian stood with his hands behind his back, looking at the cityscape outside the window, his mood as bright as the March sunshine.

Being able to say sweet words to his wife on the phone, such happiness always felt like a divine gift.

"Thank you, Mr. Kingsley, for your favor. I'll get back to work now." Brooklyn smiled.

"Okay."

The bar street in Amber District was bustling at night. When Brooklyn arrived, it was already filled with various noisy laughter and chatter.

Neon lights flickered, glasses clinked. In the extravagant Aucester, such places belonged to the revelers at night.

Brooklyn wore a simple yet elegant shirt and pants, looking graceful, beautiful and refined. Even without makeup, she outshone most of the flashy women.

"Brooklyn! Over here, over here! Hurry up!" Kelly called out.

Brooklyn adjusted her bag that had slipped to her arm and sat down next to Kelly. "Surprising, the beautiful Kelly is drinking alone today. Where are your friends?"

"Come on, how could I bring so many people to our date? Besides, you're paying, so I have to be thrifty for you."

"Wow, your mindset has improved a lot. Order whatever you want!"

Kelly smiled. It wasn't that her mindset had improved; she had been threatened. Sebastian had called her directly. How could she dare to mess around?

"Then I won't hold back!" Kelly called the waiter and specifically chose the most expensive and best wine. "Don't feel bad, rich lady."

"Of course not. It's nothing to me, okay? You can swipe my card as you please today. Here, consider it compensation." Brooklyn pulled a gold card from her bag and slipped it into Kelly's collar, winking at her.

"Oh, my goddess! If you were a man, I'd definitely marry you!" As the drinks were served, Kelly poured half a glass. "To the return of the beautiful Brooklyn, cheers!"

"Cheers! To Kelly finding a good man soon!"

"Yes, I like that!" Kelly laughed.

Brooklyn brought the glass to her lips, but her gaze was caught by a striking red figure at the door!

She slammed the glass back on the table, her deep eyes fixed on the approaching sexy figure, her fingers curling one by one, her eyes shooting out a chilling light.

Kelly was stunned. "Brooklyn, what's wrong? Your expression is scary."

Brooklyn snorted coldly. "I ran into an old acquaintance. What a coincidence!"

Kelly followed her gaze and saw Valerie walking gracefully in high heels towards the bar, accompanied by a fairly good-looking man.

"That woman looks familiar. Wait, I remember! Valerie! She's Valerie! Brooklyn, do you remember the person who kidnapped me back then? And threatened you! It's her! Valerie! She actually dared to come back!"

Brooklyn's lips curled into an increasingly cold smile. "Of course, I remember. I thought she was hiding in some corner, afraid to show her face. I didn't expect..."

Valerie, who kidnapped Brooklyn and Kelly back then, almost killed her. She actually reappeared!

Back then, she thought she was dying and let Valerie go, but since even God thought it was inappropriate, why should she hesitate?

Kelly cursed, "Let's call the police! Get her arrested! That bitch Valerie! She should rot in jail!"

Brooklyn's slender fingers played with her ring. "Of course, she should go to jail, but before that, don't you want to see a good show?"

"A good show? my goddess, what are you planning to do?"
