Chapter 317 Farewell Kiss in the Hospital Room
Last night's chat with Zach about what to have for the final dinner turned out to be pointless. Brooklyn realized this as she stood at the VIP ward's door, knowing she only had thirty minutes.
“Ms. Mitchell, Mr. Kingsley said you need to be out in thirty minutes,” the nurse informed her.
Brooklyn forced a smile, hiding her bitterness. “Got it.”
Inside was the man she saved five years ago, her husband. Today, she was saying her final goodbye.
Taking a deep breath, she walked into the ward. Sebastian was leaning against the headboard, reading documents. The slanting sunlight from the window bathed him warmly, his soft hair falling over his forehead, casting delicate shadows that made his features even more striking.
Sebastian's long fingers flipped through the pages, his expression serious as he sometimes frowned and sometimes nodded.
As he reached for the cup on the table, Brooklyn placed it in his hand. He looked up, surprised but happy to see her.
“Feeling better?” he asked, his deep eyes filled with joy.
Brooklyn nodded, keeping her tone calm. “Much better. How about you? Does your wound still hurt?”
His wounds had been aching, but seeing her seemed to heal them. He held her hands, noticing the scar on her face. “What happened to your face?” he asked, his fingers gently caressing her cheek. “Does it hurt?”
Brooklyn shook her head, her eyes almost tearing up. “What fruit do you want? I'll peel an apple for you.”
Sebastian shook his head. “I don't need anything. Just sit down. I want to look at you.”
Brooklyn's expression was indifferent, her tone slightly cold. “Don't be so sentimental.”
Sebastian just looked at her, gently rubbing her small hand. “I need to rest for a month. Can you stay with me during that time?” he asked softly, almost pleading.
“No, I've already got the notice. I have to go to Jabari. You promised I could go. Don't go back on your word,” Brooklyn replied.
Sebastian tilted his head back, regretful. “Damn it, if I'd known it would be like this, I wouldn't have agreed.”
Brooklyn slowly peeled the apple, thinking to herself not to break the peel. “You're in the hospital, surrounded by people. You don't need me. Besides, I'd disturb your rest if I stayed.”
The unpleasantness of that night seemed to fade. Sebastian suddenly remembered her injuries, gently unbuttoning one of her buttons. “I'm sorry, does it hurt a lot?” he asked.
"It hurts. It's a miracle I wasn't bitten to death by you," Brooklyn said.
Sebastian frowned. "When I get better, you can bite me too, leave your mark on me."
Brooklyn's hand trembled, and the apple peel she was trying to keep in one piece broke. Her heart sank, sensing something ominous. "I'm not an animal. I don't like biting people," she said.
Sebastian tasted the apple she had cut, chewing with satisfaction. "Then hit me, vent your anger."
Brooklyn shot back sarcastically, "Sorry, I don't have that fetish either."
Sebastian raised an eyebrow. "Why couldn't I reach you on your phone?"
"It got burned in the fire during the incident. I haven't replaced the SIM card yet."
"I'll have Dario get it replaced for you. From now on, keep your phone on 24/7. Don't disappear suddenly," he said, his tone a bit domineering.
"No need, I'll do it myself. I don't like being waited on."
Sebastian had an apple in his mouth, his eyebrows slightly curved, revealing his bright white teeth as he smiled. "Alright, Mrs. Kingsley can do anything."
Time was ticking away, and thirty minutes flew by.
Brooklyn took a deep breath, preparing herself. "Don't work so hard in the future. It makes you look not smart."
Sebastian frowned. "Not smart? Because of the car accident, I am..."
"I don't care about the process, only the result," Brooklyn interrupted him.
'Slow down time! Slow down! Just a little!' she thought.
Sebastian playfully said, "Would you consider this an advice to your husband?"
Brooklyn cut the apple into pieces. "Yes."
"Since it's advice, shouldn't you give me some benefit to make me listen? Don't you know that business is about investment and return?" he said.
Brooklyn sighed. "What? What do you still lack?"
Sebastian's eyes were deep, smiling. "Your kiss."
Sebastian closed his eyes, a smile lingering on his lips.
'Can I? A farewell kiss. Then kiss,' she thought.
Brooklyn leaned over, gently pressing her lips to his with a light touch.
But Sebastian wasn't satisfied. His large hand cupped the back of her head, deepening the kiss she had offered.
Their breaths intertwined delicately, like fate entangling them, inseparable.
Finally, when her breathing became erratic, he let her go, looking at her with deep affection. "Contact me when you get to Jabari. Don't disappear, and definitely don't leave and never come back. I'll be waiting for you here."
"I..."
"Ms. Mitchell, someone is looking for you," the man in black interrupted their conversation, as time was up.
Brooklyn let go of Sebastian's hand and said with a faint smile, "Don't wait for me. I'm not coming back."
