Chapter 258 Where To?
"Go ahead. Say your goodbyes properly, and end it well."
Zach encouraged her to face what she needed to face; neither of them was a coward.
Brooklyn put her phone in her bag, wiping the tears from her cheeks, and said, "Don't worry, I won't fall. I still have a lot to do."
Zach smiled gently, his eyes soft. "I also believe you won't go down so easily."
She had planned to leave quietly, but the Turner family's banquet came at just the right time, making it impossible to keep a low profile.
"I'll drive you," Zach offered." It is hard to get a cab near the cemetery."
Brooklyn shook her head. "No need, just take me to the hospital. I'll drive myself from there."
Though it would waste some time, she wanted to appear before Sebastian in the best possible way, like a lead actor making a grand exit at the end of a play.
The white Maybach sped under her control. It was Brooklyn's first time driving so fast, and she had to admit, it felt pretty good.
The feeling of being above death was quite exhilarating.
The luxury car stopped in front of the MBK Group Building. Brooklyn unbuckled her seatbelt, about to get out of the car, when a striking figure emerged from the revolving doors of the building.
Megan, in a light rose-colored long dress, walked with a swaying gait. Her heavily made-up face was adorned with oversized sunglasses, and she carried a diamond-studded clutch. Her steps were light and alluring. Despite being pregnant, she wore four-inch high heels, exuding the aura of a top-tier celebrity.
Four bodyguards in black uniforms and sunglasses followed her, keeping away the frenzied fans trying to get autographs and photos. The MBK Group's office area was generally off-limits to the public, so most of her fans were company employees.
Brooklyn thought, 'Who is she putting on this show for?'
Brooklyn thought as she watched from inside the car, observing Megan's ostentatious behavior with disgust. What she didn't expect was that Megan would get into Sebastian's car, a black Rolls-Royce, with Sebastian's driver Owen at the wheel.
Brooklyn's eyes filled with confusion and more than a little irritation. 'Megan visiting Sebastian at this time is likely about the evening's banquet, right? I already consider myself the hostess of the Kingsley family. Won't I play the role of the hostess at such a critical moment?' she thought.
Brooklyn smiled coldly and dialed Sebastian's number.
It was not yet quitting time., so she figured he might be busy. But after just two seconds, he picked up and asked directly, "Are you here?"
Brooklyn nodded, then realized he couldn't see her nodding. "Just arrived, I'm downstairs at the building."
There was silence on the other end. She could hear faint sounds, sometimes loud, sometimes soft, and the rapid flipping of papers, indicating his urgency.
'What is he doing?' she thought.
Usually, when she called him, she had to wait two out of three times. She had grown used to it, resting her fingers on the steering wheel, listening to his breathing, and waiting patiently.
After about a minute, Sebastian spoke again. "You drove yourself?"
"Yes." Brooklyn answered.
"Wait for me for five minutes."
"Okay."
With such a simple exchange, the call was over. The atmosphere felt a bit strange.
She thought, uneasy. 'Has Megan brought some news that can affect Sebastian's mood?'
Meanwhile, in the CEO's office, Dario had to cautiously remind him, "Mr. Kingsley, what does Mr. Turner mean by this? Is he trying to use the cooperation project to threaten you?"
Sebastian tossed aside the documents Megan had brought, wearing a cold, mocking smile. "Obviously, yes. He wants me to acknowledge my realtionship with Megan tonight. This cooperation project is both a threat and a temptation. Mr. Turner is willing to spend money for his daughter."
Dario clasped his hands in front of him, leaning forward slightly and asking, "So, what do you intend to do? If we lose this cooperation project, MBK Group's overall performance might decline this year, and it will be hard to explain to the Mr. Brian Kingsley."
Lawrence had seized on this point. Brian always cared only about performance and results, never the process. Sebastian's marriage to Brooklyn against his wishes had already touched a nerve. If the company's performance declined, Sebastian's position would be precarious.
But Sebastian just sneered. "He likes to play games, let him play to his heart's content. Leave the documents here; I'm leaving."
Dario bowed his head. "Yes, but your car was send to drop off Ms. Turner."
"No matter. Tell Owen to return the car to the garage and get another one to pick us up."
Sebastian didn't want to sit in the car Megan had just used, nor did he want Brooklyn to.
A tall, imposing figure emerged from the glass doors, bathing in the afternoon glow. Sebastian's black suit was crisp and clean, his indifferent gaze exuding an aloof arrogance. He strode down the steps.
Brooklyn watched as Sebastian walked towards her, forgetting to even blink.
She was lost in thought when a hand tapped on the glass. Brooklyn opened the door from the inside and asked, "Where to?"
