Chapter 456 Choose the Right Side, Stay Out of Trouble

James smiled faintly, casually playing with the coffee cup in his hand between his fingers. "It seems that Sebastian is serious about Marc this time. But then again, Sebastian's always been a strict person."

Standing in the chairman's office of Infinite International Group, facing the floor-to-ceiling windows, James looked thoughtfully at the cityscape of Aucester, his expression somewhat complex.

His assistant reported, "Marc didn't gain any advantage in front of Sebastian this time. Moreover, because of this incident, Marc's parent company's stock price dropped by twenty percent when the market opened this morning and shows signs of continuing to plummet."

James nodded, resting his elbow on his fist and holding his arm, taking a sip of coffee. "It seems I need to change my strategy towards MBK."

"What do you mean, Mr. Rivera?" the assistant cautiously asked, waiting for James's response.

He looked at James's back in disbelief. Could it be that James was going to change his approach?

James turned around, looking down at his slightly shorter assistant. His backlit figure, with a faint halo around him, made his expression even more inscrutable.

"Do you know Marc's background?"

The assistant nodded. "Yes, both the underworld and the authorities give him some respect. He holds significant influence in Aqua Vista City, and most people dare not cross him. It's also said that he's ruthless—those who offend him invariably meet a grim fate."

James took another sip of coffee and smiled. "Even someone like Marc couldn't gain an advantage with Sebastian. Do you think I'd be foolish enough to go against him? Redo the last proposal and tell Kevin that The Infinite International Group currently has no intention of collaborating overseas. Let him find someone else to work with."

The assistant was shocked. "But Mr. Rivera, didn't you already cooperated with Mr. King? If you change your mind now, won't Mr. King think you're playing him?"

James smirked. "If I have to offend either Sebastian or Kevin, who do you think I'd choose?"

The assistant immediately understood. "Got it, I'll take care of it right away."

After the assistant left the office, James's smile grew even more profound.

Sebastian was not someone to be trifled with—he was not an easy opponent for just anyone. James needed to assess the situation clearly and quickly find his own proper place, or he would surely be crushed by Sebastian.

With that in mind, James picked up the phone.

The phone rang for a while before being answered.

James laughed, "Mr. Kingsley, your methods are as sharp as ever. Marc this time..."

Kevin was adjusting his attire, preparing to visit Brooklyn at the hospital, when he received a call from his assistant. Looking at his impeccably dressed reflection in the mirror, he picked up the ringing phone.

As he fastened his cufflinks, his tall figure in the mirror looked even more imposing in a silver-gray suit, his eyes revealing no emotion.

"Mr. King, James canceled our collaboration. I just received a call from his assistant. It seems Marc's situation has scared him." Kevin's assistant said.

However, Kevin calmly adjusted his tie, seemingly unaffected by James's sudden change of mind, or perhaps he had already anticipated this outcome.

"A cowardly and incompetent person. Since he doesn't want to work with me, I should send him a gift in return. Contact the company in Britonia and send the proposal over." he sneered.

"Yes, Mr. King. When do you plan to return to Emporcia?"

Kevin finished dressing and fastened his watch. "Tomorrow."

"Understood!"

"Prepare the car. I'm going to Aucester Hospital."

"Understood!"

Kevin hung up the phone, giving a sinister smile in the mirror. His eyes, showed no obvious change in emotion, but harboring a hidden menace.

He pondered, 'Sebastian, what a formidable opponent. It seems I can't underestimate him.'

Kevin stepped out of the hotel and walked down the steps.

Aucester Hospital

"Dr. Mitchell, the patient is awake! It's a miracle! You and Dr. Carter have created a miracle!"

Arabella, as if she had found a great treasure, rushed into Brooklyn's office and grabbed her arm, shaking it vigorously.

The pen Brooklyn was holding was shaken out of her hand by Arabella. She nodded with a mix of helplessness and amusement. "Alright,if you keep shaking me, the patient will wake up, but I'll be dizzy."

Arabella laughed awkwardly, "Okay, I was just too excited! But the patient's vital signs are still not very stable and need continued observation. Dr. Mitchell, you're amazing! The charm of you is unstoppable!"

Brooklyn bent down to pick up the pen that had fallen at her feet, looking at Arabella's beaming face. "Dr. Carter was the lead surgeon for this operation. If you want to compliment someone, it should be him."

Arabella bit her lip, seeking permission. "Really? Can I go see Dr. Carter?"

Brooklyn nodded. "Of course, but Dr. Carter is probably doing his rounds now. Since the patient woke up, he would check on them first. You can congratulate him after he's done."

Arabella adjusted her glasses, which had slipped down in her excitement. "Okay! I won't let you down, Dr. Mitchell. I'll make sure to praise Dr. Carter!"

Brooklyn pursed her lips and opened a medical file. "It seems there's a generation gap between me and you youth. You all have so many tricks up your sleeves. You clearly want to see Dr. Carter yourself but still use my name."

Arabella smiled, "Didn't you see through me? I'll go get ready! Oh, by the way, Dr. Mitchell, what kind of coffee does Dr. Carter like? I'll buy him a cup."

Brooklyn looked up and carefully observed Arabella's expression. "Arabella, are you a bit too concerned about Dr. Carter? Have you taken a liking to him?"

Arabella didn't hide her feelings and admitted openly. "Dr. Carter is young, talented, handsome, and gentle. He's incredibly considerate. Any woman would like him. My taste is quite mainstream; it's not surprising that I like him, right?"

Brooklyn was somewhat taken aback by Arabella's straightforwardness but felt a warmth in her heart. It was good for Zach to have someone who liked him.

"He likes lattes, no sugar. Go ahead."

"Okay! Thank you, Dr. Mitchell! You're my idol! You're too kind!" Arabella dashed out of the office like a bird freed from its cage.

Brooklyn smiled again, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

Faintly, Brooklyn heard the excited chatter of nurses in the hallway, their voices growing louder as if they had encountered someone significant.

"Wow! He's so handsome and has such a presence. Who is he?"

"I've never seen him before, but he's really good-looking, like a celebrity!"

"I haven't seen him before either, but anyone who comes to our department is either seriously ill or a patient's family member. Could he be..."

Brooklyn didn't recall having such a notable person among her patients.

Just as she was feeling puzzled, there was a knock on her office door.

Looking up, a tall figure in sleek silver-gray stood at the door. Her eyes followed the sharp lines of his tailored suit upward, meeting a strikingly handsome face that felt both familiar and strangely unfamiliar.

To her surprise, it was Kevin.

"Kevin? What are you doing here? Are you feeling unwell?" Brooklyn stood up and gestured for him to come in and sit.

Kevin's elegant smile exuded a deep sense of nobility, as if he had descended from a throne, naturally commanding reverence. "I came specifically to see you. Is it convenient?"

Brooklyn smiled graciously. "It's always convenient for you. Please, have a seat."

Inviting Kevin to sit, Brooklyn called out to Jake. "Jake, please get Mr. King a cup of tea."

Kevin looked around Brooklyn's office, nodding in approval. "It's definitely your style. Just by looking at the office decor, I can tell the owner is you."

Brooklyn smiled slightly. "You came to see me so early, I think it's not just to admire my office decor, right?"

Whenever Kevin approached, Brooklyn instinctively went into defense mode. This reflex made her uncomfortable, but it was almost unavoidable.

Kevin nodded with a faint smile. "You're too smart, Scarlett. Sometimes it's hard to make a move because you're so perceptive."

His gaze fixed on Brooklyn's eyes, a mix of playfulness and seriousness, as if probing for something deeper.

Jake brought a cup of tea to Kevin, his eyes lingering on him for a few seconds before leaving.

Brooklyn remained noncommittal. "Just tell me what you need."

Kevin took a sip of tea. "Nothing much, I just want to see you. I'm heading back to Emporcia tomorrow."

His gentle and appropriate words were almost flawless, nearly touching Brooklyn with their sincerity.

"Tomorrow? I have a surgery scheduled for tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to see you off personally."

"Scarlett, you always refuse in a way that leaves no room for argument. It's really..." He didn't finish his sentence, but both of them understood.

Brooklyn didn't claim to know Kevin well, but she was aware of his deep and inscrutable nature.

He always had a purpose behind everything he did. She had known this since their years of acquaintance.

Therefore, Brooklyn always found it suspicious whenever Kevin appeared before her, regardless of his identity.

She said in helpless tone, "I'm telling the truth, not making excuses. If you change your flight, I promise to see you off personally."

"Patients come first. I understand." Kevin smiled.

"Thank you on behalf of the patients."

Once again, they exchanged knowing smiles.

They were too familiar to each other's tactics.

In the midst of their conversation, Kevin's phone rang.

"Sorry, I need to take this call."

"Go ahead."

Kevin walked to the window. "What's the matter?"

"Mr. King, the company's new product has been found to contain carcinogens. The authorities in Averlake are conducting extensive sampling of similar products. You need to return as soon as possible."

Kevin's eyes narrowed sharply. "How did this happen?"

"The authorities said they received a report, but our products have never had any quality issues. This inspection has halted all sales, severely impacting the company's reputation and sales."

"I understand. I'll return as soon as possible."
