Chapter 308 The First Person I Want to See When I Wake Up

She shook her head weakly, her whole body trembling. "Back then, he didn't leave any personal info. By the time I was rescued and woke up, he was already gone and never showed up again."

She thought she'd never see that patient again. But she never imagined he was right beside her all along. Over three years of verbal battles, she was abandoned like a discarded woman, lying with him... She never would've thought that the patient she saved with her scalpel, the one who changed her career, was the same person who changed her life.

Fate had a way of binding her to him in almost a mocking manner.

Brooklyn looked up, her heart filled with complicated emotions that turned into tears. She always saw herself as a strong woman, capable of handling things on her own. But in front of Sebastian, her tears always flowed so easily, spilling out without her noticing.

Zach held the frail Brooklyn tightly, pressing her head against his chest, not knowing what to say, letting her cry in his arms and waiting for her to cry it all out.

"Brooklyn, it's all in the past now. Whether it was good or bad, it's over. Forget about it; start fresh. Give yourself a chance, and let yourself go. I don't want to see you so exhausted anymore. Be well, okay?" His words were like a plea.

Brooklyn's eyes were swollen and red. Now that she knew the truth, it broke her heart even more. She lifted her haggard face and said, "Zach, when Sebastian wakes up, I'll see him one last time, then I'll leave here forever."

After saying that, she closed her eyes, like a balloon that had all its energy and air drained out, completely wilting in his arms.

Zach's eyes burned, tears streaming down his face. He gently stroked her back with his warm hand and said, "Alright, leave here forever, go to a place where there's no more hurt, and start over."

He gently laid the limp Brooklyn back on the bed, set up her IV, and softly reminded her, "Brooklyn, you're smart. Don't do anything foolish anymore, and don't torture yourself."

'When you torture yourself, it's not just you who feels the pain. You know that?' Zach thought.

Brooklyn kept her eyes closed, not saying a word. She had exhausted all her strength.

Now, with her eyes closed, her mind replayed the events of five years ago in the operating room in slow and fast motion.

The scalpel cut across her right palm, blood gushing out. The patient's life hung by a thread as the heart rate and blood pressure dropped on the monitor. People around her urged her to give up, some even yelling that if she continued, her hand would be ruined.

But she insisted on finishing the surgery. Even if no one supported her, she was determined to save the patient.

'What was it that gave me the strength to disregard everything to save that person? What was it? Was it because I was too young and didn't want to fail? Was it because I couldn't bear to see a life slip away? I can't say, but I didn't want that person to die.' In a daze, Brooklyn finally fell asleep.

Seeing her asleep, Zach took a deep breath, smoothed her hair on her forehead, and noticed she was covered in a thin layer of sweat.

He grabbed a clean towel to wipe her down, his fingers trailing across her forehead and cheeks. Not just her forehead, but her neck was sweaty too.

His fingers paused at her neck, not daring to go further. He placed the towel under her neck to absorb the sweat, and through her slightly open collar, he saw a white bandage.

Zach's heart skipped a beat. 'When she came to me that night, there was blood on her chest. The wound must be around there. But how did she get hurt?'

She slept for a long time, completely exhausted. In her dream, she almost didn't want to wake up. She wanted to sleep forever. Because in her dream, there was Sebastian.

In her dream, she went back to the first time she officially met Sebastian, listening to his heartbeat as he smiled mischievously.

It was so distant, but so beautiful.

As she dreamed of this, tears flowed from Brooklyn's eyes as she slept.

VIP Room.

In the evening, Sebastian finally woke up from his coma.

Half-awake, he mumbled, "Brooklyn," but the hands holding his were Megan's and Jennifer's.

Jennifer cried tears of joy. "Sebastian, you're finally awake. You had me so worried."

Megan wiped the tears from her eyes. "Sebastian, we were all so worried about you. It's so good that you're awake."

Sebastian tried to turn his neck to look around the room, but he didn't see Brooklyn.

"Sebastian, are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere? I'll get the doctor." Jennifer wiped her tears and got up to call for the doctor.

Sebastian gently pulled her hand, stopping her, asking, "Where's Brooklyn? I want to see her."

Megan bit her lip silently, not daring to speak.

Sebastian had just woken up, and the doctor said he shouldn't be agitated. Jennifer didn't say anything harsh, but her tone was clearly displeased, "I also wish she could stay by your side like your wife, but look at you, you're in this state, and she can't even be seen. It's Megan who is understandable. Even though she's pregnant and injured, she stayed with you all day."

Sebastian didn't want to hear this. He frowned, shook off Megan's hand, and didn't even look at her, "Leave. I want some peace."

Jennifer and Megan were the closest, with Quinn, Brandon, and Dario sitting on the sofa behind them.

He said he wanted peace, clearly not wanting to hear Megan's voice.

Jennifer nodded. "Alright, I'll leave first. If you need anything, tell Dario. Brandon is also here."

Jennifer deliberately didn't mention Quinn's name.

Megan reluctantly left, reaching out to smooth Sebastian's hair, but he turned his face away in disgust, avoiding her hand. "Leave."

His words carried an unspoken authority, making his dislike for Megan clear without any need for embellishment.

Jennifer and Megan left the room, each with their own thoughts—one filled with joy, the other plotting a scheme.
