Chapter 124 Dad, Did You Need Me for Something
Brooklyn's hand clenched into a fist under the blanket.
"Sebastian, I've told you, Zach and I are just in a normal superior-subordinate relationship."
Sebastian, expressionless, said, "If that's the case, how I deal with him has nothing to do with you."
Sebastian was a man of his word, and if he really wanted to go after Zach, he would do so ruthlessly. Thinking of this, Brooklyn quickly said, "Let him go. I've already come back as you asked. Your goal has been achieved. Shouldn't you let go now?"
The thought of her in Zach's arms made Sebastian want him to disappear forever!
Sebastian snorted coldly, showing his disdain and anger.
Brooklyn realized that begging him was useless, so she stopped. She said impatiently, "If you want to go, then go. Don't use this as a reason to threaten me anymore."
Sebastian hated Brooklyn's indifferent attitude that could easily ignite his anger. It made him furious!
A monotonous phone ringtone broke the awkward atmosphere between them. It was such an old-fashioned ringtone; only Sebastian would still use it.
Sebastian frowned, picked up the phone, and walked to the balcony of the hospital room before answering.
From Brooklyn's angle, she could see his sharp, unapproachable profile and hear his icy voice that could pierce through someone.
"Is there anything?"
After he said this, Brooklyn shivered.
"Mitchell Group?"
'Mitchell Group? Is he referring to my family's company?' Brooklyn thought.
Brooklyn perked up her ears to listen more clearly, but Sebastian walked to the edge of the balcony and closed the glass door.
Now, all the sound was isolated outside the transparent glass.
Sebastian's tall back remained motionless. Even his posture while holding the phone didn't change; only his other hand rhythmically tapped the railing.
Brooklyn felt suspicious. Did something happen to the Mitchell Group? Was it business-related or something else?
The Mitchell Group's business had always been poor. Susie and Seraphina had asked her for money, directly and indirectly, many times. Could it be that something bigger had happened now?
After a bout of wild thoughts, Sebastian finished his call and returned.
Brooklyn pretended not to have heard anything, and Sebastian didn't mention a word about it. "Rest here today. You'll return to Aucester tomorrow."
This was the last thing Sebastian said to her in the next two hours because, after that, he disappeared, leaving a female nurse to watch over her.
They exchanged glances and fell into silence, so Brooklyn took out her phone to play.
Opening her Whatsapp, Brooklyn sent Kelly a crying emoji.
Kelly replied really quickly: "Dear, you finally showed up! Why couldn't I reach you? I saw you were sent to an AIDS village by the hospital. Are your superiors out of their minds?"
From this voice message, she could completely imagine Kelly's frantic expression.
Brooklyn called Kelly, "There was probably no signal in the village. I've left now and will return to Aucester tomorrow."
Kelly replied, "That's great! Good news! Leaving that place is good. Oh my God, I was so scared!"
Brooklyn said, "And there's bad news. I got injured while practicing medicine and am lying in the hospital. I really need some care. Remember to bring me some of Auntie's nutritious soup."
Kelly inquired, "Where are you? I'll find you now! Is the injury serious? Is anyone with you?"
Brooklyn smiled. "Yes, but..."
"But what? What do you mean?" Kelly asked.
"Sebastian is here," Brooklyn replied.
On the other end of the line, Kelly was silent for a while, and then she became noticeably less enthusiastic and very subdued. "I'll definitely bring you the soup. Take care."
Brooklyn heard her hang up and felt speechless. Kelly actually decided not to come because of Sebastian.
Even more, unfortunately, a call from Kingsley Villa came in over an hour later!
Seeing the caller ID, Brooklyn almost dropped her phone. She thought the caller could either be Jennifer or Brian, but neither of them was easy to deal with.
She steadied herself, took a deep breath, and answered, "Hello..."
Brooklyn anxiously clutched the corner of the blanket, quietly waiting for the other side's response. After a while, a voice finally came through.
"It's me."
Brian's strong voice came through, and Brooklyn almost fell off the bed. She gripped the phone tightly, her palm already sweaty.
"Dad, did you need me for something?" Brooklyn's voice involuntarily lowered. This was the first time she had received a call from Brian since she and Sebastian became a couple. She felt immense pressure, and her nerves were taut.
At this moment, Brian was sitting in the large study of the Kingsley family villa. His inscrutable eyes held the wisdom and depth accumulated from decades in the business world, while Quinn, standing in front of his desk, appeared very immature.
The difference between Quinn and Brian was more than just age.
"Has Quinn done something recently?" Brian asked.
