Chapter 521 A Good Deed Caused by a Misunderstanding
Arabella forced her eyes open, struggling to wake up from her deep sleep.
The hangover was killing her, making her head feel like it was about to explode.
When she finally managed to open her eyes, Arabella was stunned!
'A hotel! A suite!'
'What the hell is going on?'
'Who the hell can tell her what happened?'
She rubbed her head and wobbled to her feet, relieved to find that her clothes were still on.
Stepping out of the room, she spotted Quinn sprawled out on the living room sofa. She squinted her eyes, rubbed them, and stared at him. What the hell?
She kicked his leg hanging off the sofa, "Hey, Quinn, it's morning. Wake up, wake up."
Quinn scrunched his nose, clearly not having slept well, and turned over to bury himself deeper into the sofa.
Seriously?
How could anyone sleep like this?
Arabella leaned over to study Quinn's sleeping position. His head was wedged between the sofa and a pillow, with half his face buried.
'Sleeping with his head covered? What a bad habit!'
"Hey, Quinn, get up." She called out, but there was no response.
Arabella frowned and poked Quinn's head with her finger, "Quinn! Get up!"
Quinn, grumpy from being woken up, grabbed Arabella's wrist with his eyes still closed. She had no idea what was happening and suddenly found herself lifted off the ground, her legs giving way, and her body tilting!
"Thud!"
A dull pain hit her chest as her legs crashed into Quinn's, her upper body suspended and then falling, her slender frame landing right on top of Quinn.
"Quinn!"
Her scream echoed through the luxurious suite, shaking it. Her shriek woke Quinn instantly.
Their eyes met, in silence, staring, dazed...
"Ah!"
Quinn's scream followed, even louder than hers. If her scream was like a pig being slaughtered, his was like a cow being butchered.
"Why are you screaming! Let go of me!" Arabella punched Quinn in the chest, causing him to release her wrist as if electrocuted.
The movement was so sudden that Arabella rolled off and hit the floor with a "thud." Out of reflex, she grabbed Quinn's shirt and yanked hard!
"Boom!"
With a forceful thud, Quinn's tall, lean frame was pulled down, landing right on top of her.
Quinn's eyes widened, and his lips, moving faster than lightning, landed squarely on hers!
Arabella's eyes widened in shock, and her face turned pale. The young, handsome face above her was magnified, and every detail was clear.
The warmth and lingering scent of alcohol filled the air, blurring the lines between where she ended and he began.
Her eyelashes stood still, forgetting to blink, and Arabella's mind went blank.
"Get off!"
Arabella pushed Quinn away, scooting back on the floor, her previously pale face now flushed red, "Quinn! You jerk!"
Quinn, sitting on the floor, stared at her in a daze. Arabella's long hair flowed smoothly over her shoulders, and her face, free of glasses, showed a beautiful, shy morning look.
Quinn was stunned, realizing he had just kissed her.
He never expected that a brief taste could be so wonderful, making him want more. He swallowed hard.
The girl had red lips and white teeth, and in the gentle morning light, a beam of light highlighted her profile.
No matter how he looked at her, she was captivating, radiant, and enchanting.
Damn!
Could he really be falling for this hillbilly? Why did he find everything about her so perfect?
He was doomed.
"Quinn! If you keep staring, I'll gouge your eyes out!"
Quinn thought to himself, 'Go ahead, even if you do, I'll still look!'
He retorted, "Who wants to look at you! I'm going to rinse my mouth!"
Quinn got up and headed to the bathroom, Arabella's scream following him, "Damn! My first kiss! Ah!"
Uh...
For some reason, hearing it was her first kiss made Quinn secretly smile.
Sebastian's flight was in the afternoon, and Brooklyn personally went to the airport to see him off. This was the first time since their marriage that Brooklyn had gone to the airport to see him off.
She felt a mix of emotions.
Seeing her husband off on his journey made her feel happy.
But watching him leave, she felt a pang of reluctance.
Holding his book, Brooklyn looked at the tall Sebastian with teary eyes, "Darling, take good care of yourself this week."
She wanted to say more, but found herself saying the same clichéd words as countless others seeing someone off.
Sebastian, holding his suitcase in one hand and her waist in the other, simply replied, "Okay."
Just one word! So typical of Sebastian.
Brooklyn frowned, "My mentor has a bit of a temper, you need to handle it well."
Sebastian's lips curved slightly, a bit sinister, a bit deliberate, "Are you doubting my diplomatic skills, darling?"
"Of course, I don't doubt Mr. Kingsley's performance at the negotiation table, but my mentor isn't one of your profit-driven opponents. Money means nothing to him."
Brooklyn was worried about this. Her mentor was tough to deal with, not easily swayed by anything.
"Darling, you need to know that history is made by a few people. A few can achieve what many cannot, and your darling has always been one of those few."
Brooklyn's tension was wiped away by his narcissism. "Then, representative of the history-making few, please make sure to succeed."
Sebastian kissed her forehead, "I will. The only thing I can't let go of is you. If anything happens with the Kingsley family while I'm gone, tell me. If anyone gives you trouble, tell me."
Brooklyn nodded, "Okay, Mr. Kingsley, rest assured. I've been toughened up by you, I'm invincible."
Sebastian smiled, his hand brushing her cheek, "Wait for me to come back."
"Okay, I'll wait for you."
The plane flew along its path, disappearing into the sky. Brooklyn watched it go, feeling the pang of separation for the first time.
Touching her wedding ring, Brooklyn smiled. Having someone to care for and think about was truly wonderful.
On her way back to the hospital, Brooklyn received a call. The name on the screen made her pause. Sebastian was indeed a genius; he had just left, and the Kingsley family was already reaching out.
So fast.
"Mom, what's up?" Brooklyn answered with her headset.
Jennifer's voice was overly polite, "Brooklyn, Sebastian has gone abroad. It's too lonely for you to stay alone in the villa. Why not come home for a few days? We haven't lived together since you got married. I've had a room prepared for you. Come back tonight."
Brooklyn tapped her fingers on the steering wheel, watching the countdown on the traffic light, and smiled, "Thank you for the trouble, Mom. I'll come back tonight."
"You agreed? That's wonderful." Jennifer's overly enthusiastic response always sounded suspicious to Brooklyn.
Ending the call, the light turned green, and the white Maybach merged into traffic.
Going back to the Kingsley Villa?
It was laughable. Since marrying Sebastian, when had she ever enjoyed such treatment? She couldn't even have a meal there without feeling like several pairs of eyes wanted to tear her apart.
Brooklyn arrived at the hospital and asked Arabella, "Did Sofia's test results come in today?"
Arabella handed her the report, "Her heart function is weak, and her heartbeat is irregular. Her entire left atrium is severely diseased. Without the machine, she wouldn't make it."
Brooklyn looked at the report and sighed, "Left atrial artery stenosis, the coronary artery can't even hold a stent now..."
Jake added, "Indeed, the OM-BRANCH position is bad. Even surgery can't reveal the details of the leftmost coronary artery, posing a life-threatening risk."
Arabella glared at him, "Jake, damn it, can't you say something nice? If you can't, just shut up!"
Brooklyn handed the report back to Arabella, her calmness almost pessimistic, "He's right. Even at Averlake, no one dares to operate on her."
With that, she walked into her office, leaving the two of them staring at each other, annoyed.
At the end of the workday, Brooklyn returned to her office from the ward and instructed Arabella, "Ryan is on duty tonight. Make sure he keeps a close eye on Sofia. Her condition could worsen at any time."
Arabella hesitated, "Boss, I'll be on duty tonight."
"You? Didn't you work last night? Are you that eager to dedicate your youth to the hospital?"
Brooklyn took off her lab coat and put on her own jacket, her movements graceful and elegant. She pulled out the hair tie, letting her hair flow down to her waist.
"Uh... I switched shifts with Ryan yesterday." Arabella felt a bit guilty, especially in front of Quinn's sister-in-law.
Brooklyn didn't think much of it, "Alright, then. Thank you for your hard work tonight."
Arabella smiled, noticing Brooklyn pulling out a lipstick from her bag to touch up her makeup. She couldn't help but ask, "Boss, why are you dressing up so nicely? Going on a date with your CEO husband?"
Brooklyn applied a layer of rosy lipstick, her complexion looking much better. Her eyes twinkled mischievously. "No, I'm going to my husband's parents' house tonight."
What?
That meant the Kingsley Villa?
Arabella's mouth twitched, "Uh... be careful. Mothers-in-law can be scary!"
