Chapter 510 First Trial Result, Life Imprisonment
The hospital room finally quieted down. Brooklyn settled onto the couch, exhaling softly. She looked up to find Sebastian gazing at her with a soft expression.
Their eyes met. Brooklyn smiled, feeling a bit weary, and buried herself on the couch, grabbing a pillow to hug. "What's up, Mr. Kingsley? With that look, you're making me feel a bit pressured."
Sebastian's tall figure leaned against the windowsill, the light and shadow playing on him, making his silhouette even more defined. "Mrs. Kingsley, you never cease to amaze me. You're quite impressive, I must say."
Brooklyn pressed her chin against the pillow, propping up her face, her lips curling into a bright smile. "I'm honored to receive praise from Mr. Kingsley."
Sebastian glanced at his watch. "The doctor will be here soon to check on you. You should lie down for a bit."
Brooklyn felt a bit frustrated at the thought of lying down again. She clung to the couch, refusing to move. "I've been lying down forever. If I keep this up, I might turn into a fossil."
Sebastian strode over to the couch, not giving her a chance to argue. He bent down and scooped her up in his arms. The slender woman felt light in his embrace, yet her presence was significant. "If fossils were as impressive as you, I wouldn't mind being one."
His deep, pleasant voice was right by her ear, gently wrapping around her. Brooklyn couldn't help but laugh, wrapping her arms around his neck to secure herself in his embrace. She sighed, "Megan and Samantha are both in prison now. Megan won't be making any moves for a while. Finally, I can get a good night's sleep."
Sebastian laid her on the bed, pulling up the blanket to cover her abdomen. "I'm here. You can always sleep well, Mrs. Kingsley. Don't you trust me?"
Brooklyn found Sebastian's domineering aura a bit speechless, but she genuinely liked it.
The doctor soon arrived for the check-up. The blood clot in her head was not a major issue, and the medication was working well. Being a doctor herself, she knew how to absorb the medication better, maximizing its effectiveness on her condition.
However, the doctor was a bit disappointed when examining her right hand. "Dr. Mitchell, your right hand already has underlying issues. You know, the worst thing is overexertion. The recovery period might be longer this time."
Brooklyn frowned tightly. "Find me a massage therapist. I want to recover quickly. I promised Peregrine I'd treat his daughter. She'll be transferred from Averlake to Aucester Hospital in a couple of days. When the time is right, I need to perform the surgery myself. This can't go on."
Sebastian held her hand firmly in his. "Your hand is in this condition, and you're still thinking about performing surgery? Brooklyn, do you not want this hand anymore?"
"I promised Peregrine, and he kept his promise. If I tell him my hand can't perform surgery, what will he do? He's a father, and fathers cherish their daughters the most. If anything happens to his daughter, he'll be devastated."
Sebastian's brows furrowed deeply, his eyes darkening. "Fine, I'll have Dario handle the transfer. But until your hand recovers, you're strictly forbidden from performing any surgery. Otherwise, I'll shut down the hospital and won't give you the chance to be reckless."
Brooklyn chuckled, leaning on his shoulder. "Mr. Kingsley, you always threaten to shut down the hospital when you're angry. That's not a good habit."
Sebastian massaged her right hand gently. "Even if I shut down the hospital, I probably couldn't stop Dr. Mitchell's determination to save lives. Since you love it, I'll support you."
"Thank you. I mean, thank you for understanding me, for knowing me."
Sebastian's handsome face was filled with affection, his large hand enveloping hers. "Of course, I understand and know my own wife."
As they talked, Sebastian's phone rang.
Seeing the word "Dad" on the screen, Sebastian's previously relaxed expression tightened, his brows furrowing. Brooklyn saw it was Brian calling, and her heart sank. Brian's calls usually didn't bring good news.
Sebastian wanted to hang up immediately, but Brooklyn stopped him. "Don't. He's still your father. Ask him what's up. It might be something about the company."
Sebastian was reluctant, but his wife's support made him answer the call. He sat by the window with a cold tone. "Dad, what's up?"
Brooklyn was startled by his cold greeting. The relationship between Sebastian and Brian was so strained that it was almost like they were enemies. What kind of father-son relationship was this?
Brian sat in the villa's living room, snorting coldly, his tone even icier than Sebastian's. "Sebastian, I heard Donny and his wife went to the hospital to see Brooklyn but were kicked out before they even got in. Is this true?"
Sebastian's brows raised slightly at this, then he sneered. "Oh? How did you find out? Of course, he used to love tattling on me when he was a kid. I didn't expect him to keep up this habit."
Sebastian's voice dripped with sarcasm. He held the phone with one hand while continuing to massage Brooklyn's hand with the other, as if he was casually chatting rather than discussing Donny's matter with his father.
Brian snorted again. "Sebastian, your attitude is truly arrogant now. Do I, as your father, need to make an appointment with your secretary to see you?"
Sebastian's sneer deepened, the smile freezing at the corners of his eyes without reaching further. "I want to ask, Dad, who is your real son? Me or Donny?"
"Sebastian, how dare you speak to me like that? Let me tell you, whether it's Quinn or Donny, they're all part of the Kingsley family! Since they're part of the Kingsley family, you can't do whatever you want! Also, you took over Donny's factory without any explanation. You don't respect your uncle or me! Do you really think you can rule the Kingsley family?"
Sebastian moved the phone slightly away from his ear, speaking slowly. "Dad, I don't understand. I remember you once told me that in the Kingsley family, there are no brothers, only rivals. And, to inherit MBK, I must be ruthless. I remember you telling me when I was ten years old not to trust anyone. Did you forget that?"
Brian slammed his fist on the sofa. "Sebastian! Are you going against me?"
Sebastian laughed, his voice indifferent. "No, quite the opposite. Everything I'm doing now is following your teachings. How could I disobey my parents' orders?"
Brian stood up from the sofa, his face shaking slightly with anger, showing the extent of his fury. "Sebastian, you better watch yourself. I won't let you continue this arrogance."
With that, Brian hung up the phone and stormed off to his study.
Donny, standing on the first-floor balcony, swirled his wine glass gently. "Uncle Brian's attitude towards Sebastian seems worse than we thought."
"Dear, wasn't Uncle Brian very close to Sebastian before? He was grooming Sebastian to be the MBK heir. Now it doesn't seem that way."
Donny shook his head. "I don't know what he is thinking. Is this a form of education, or has he already chosen someone else as the heir instead of Sebastian?"
The woman across from him suddenly brightened. "It seems possible. Uncle Brian values Quinn a lot now. Although Quinn wasn't born to his first wife, he's still his biological son. Quinn's personality is easier to mold, unlike Sebastian's domineering stubbornness. Quinn might be more suitable as a compliant executive."
Donny laughed coldly. "Uncle Brian really thinks MBK is his alone? My existence isn't just for show."
A few days later, Samantha's manslaughter case was publicly tried in court. Peregrine testified, and the first trial resulted in Samantha being sentenced to life imprisonment.
When the verdict was announced, Aucester Hospital erupted in cheers. People gathered around the TV screen, shouting, "This is karma! Evil gets punished eventually! Look! Samantha, that quack, finally got what she deserved!"
"Exactly! And I heard she used her family's connections to get a professor title when she was at Aucester Hospital!"
"Right, right! Do you know who else was up for the title? Our Dr. Mitchell! Dr. Mitchell was a hundred times better than Samantha in every aspect, but Samantha got the title, and Dr. Mitchell didn't even get an associate professor position."
"That's so corrupt! Even someone as amazing as Dr. Mitchell can get stabbed in the back. My heart is breaking."
Arabella patted the girl whose heart was about to break. "Stay strong. In this society, no one will show you any mercy just because your heart is broken."
After Samantha's first trial, the Scott family was in chaos.
Simon sat on the hospital bed, still severely injured, shouting angrily, "Sebastian! Brooklyn! I'll kill you both!"
Lawrence sat beside him, sighing deeply. "Simon, now is not the time to be impulsive. Sebastian's power in Aucester is too strong. Neither of us can touch him. Revenge needs careful planning."
Simon angrily pounded the bed. "You're right, but I can't swallow this! Samantha is my sister. My parents' last wish was for me to take care of her. Now..."
Simon clutched the corner of the blanket, the veins on his hand bulging.
Megan walked in, handing Lawrence a cup of tea. "Brooklyn is ruthless. I wronged her once, and she won't let it go. To establish ourselves in Aucester, we must get rid of those two. But now..."
Megan shivered at the thought of Brooklyn's words. "We can't be impulsive. And simply trying to defeat them through business competition is almost impossible."
Lawrence nodded in agreement. "Exactly. There are few international companies that can rival MBK Group. The only one that can match them is Aurora Global Group from City A. But Aurora Global Group... is even more untouchable."
Megan closed her eyes, pressing her forehead. "If we could connect with Aurora Global Group, that would be great. Unfortunately, I've tried several times and been rejected. I couldn't even get into their building."
Simon gritted his teeth. "I can't let Samantha spend the rest of her life in prison. No matter what, I have to get her out. Lawrence, Megan, help me contact some people."
