Chapter 56 The Handsome New Doctor

"Dr. Mitchell? Dr. Mitchell, are you alright?" Sienna's voice cut through the silence, her hand waving in front of Brooklyn's face.

Snapping back to reality, Brooklyn handed her the phone, using the chair for support as she stood, her balance wavering. "I need to use the restroom," she announced.

Exchanging a glance, Ellie and Sienna pondered over Brooklyn's state. "Is Dr. Mitchell exhausted today? She was called to surgery early in the morning, then had to handle an emergency," Ellie mused.

Sienna nodded in agreement, "Dr. Mitchell is the most outstanding doctor in the hospital, but even she needs rest and care. I truly hope she finds a man who loves her."

In the hallway outside the office, Brooklyn leaned against the wall, her legs trembling slightly as she eavesdropped on their conversation. She took several deep breaths, attempting to regain her composure.

The afternoon workload was manageable. Upon Brooklyn's return from the ward, Felix offered her a cup of coffee, asking, "Are you tired? Have some coffee to recharge."

Brooklyn thanked him with a nod, but left the coffee untouched on the table.

"Dr. Reed, Dr. Klein and I are also girls. Why don't we have coffee? We're tired too and need coffee to recharge, you know!" Ellie protested.

Frowning, Felix retorted, "You two? You dare to call yourselves girls? You went to the new vice director just now, didn't you? Did you see him?"

The new vice director had already started his job?

Sienna pouted, "You're mocking us by not giving us coffee! Dr. Reed, be careful. If we find a boyfriend for Dr. Mitchell, you'll regret it!"

Felix glanced at Brooklyn, hastily hiding his embarrassment behind his coffee cup.

Brooklyn couldn't help but smile, realizing Felix's feelings for her. She wondered what their reactions would be if they knew she had been married for three years, and that her husband was their idol, Sebastian.

"Dr. Adams, you should have this coffee. My stomach hasn't been feeling well lately, so I'm not drinking coffee." Brooklyn placed the coffee on Sienna's desk, her attention returning to the computer screen.

Felix quickly offered, "Is your stomach upset? Do you need me to prescribe some medicine to help?"

Interrupting him, Ellie said, "Dr. Reed, you don't need to worry, right? With Dr. Mitchell's medical skills, it's not a big deal at all! But Dr. Mitchell, is your stomach upset? Are your eyes okay? I heard the new associate director is very handsome! But I haven't seen him yet."

It was clear that the new associate director was going to be the hot topic of conversation in the hospital for a while.

Sienna began sipping her coffee, teasing Felix, "Dr. Reed, this coffee is really good. It's the cappuccino I like. It would be perfect if you added more sugar next time!"

Felix responded, clearly annoyed, "You're already so overweight, and you still want sugar? Be careful of getting sick."

"This has nothing to do with you. You should keep an eye on Dr. Mitchell. If she really gets married, you..."

"Stop. Can you take the afternoon meeting seriously? That's the associate director we're talking about. Positions in the hospital often change. He is the associate director now, but tomorrow he might get promoted! It directly relates to our future and destiny!" Ellie warned solemnly.

Sienna bit her paper cup and nudged Brooklyn's arm, "Dr. Mitchell, if this associate director becomes the director, maybe you will be the associate director! Are you excited?"

Brooklyn lowered her head to write a prescription and replied, "You should think about how to handle Patient No. 30."

"That patient has been hospitalized for a long time..." Sienna sighed, bringing the office chatter to an end for the afternoon.

At three o'clock, the department convened for a meeting. Everyone enthusiastically discussed the new leader's charm and talent, all except for Brooklyn, who was preoccupied with thoughts of Sebastian and Megan's news, remaining unresponsive.

Just as they were nearing the meeting room, Brooklyn's phone suddenly rang.
"Dr. Mitchell, please come to Operating Room No. 1 immediately. The lead surgeon requests your assistance." The disembodied voice echoed through the sterile hospital corridors.

Sienna, overhearing the call, turned to Brooklyn with a puzzled frown. "Why would a surgeon summon you? You're an internist, not a surgeon. What assistance could you possibly provide in an operating room?"

Brooklyn, pressed for time, responded curtly, "I won't be able to attend the meeting. Please brief me on the details later." With that, she briskly walked away, leaving Sienna in a state of confusion.

In the ensuing silence, a hushed whisper filled the air. "Rumor has it that Dr. Mitchell was once a surgeon, but for reasons unknown, she transitioned to internal medicine."

The revelation left Sienna and the others in shock. "Impossible! Such a thing couldn't possibly be true, could it?"

Meanwhile, Brooklyn had donned a blue surgical gown and was making her way into the operating room. The lead surgeon was in the midst of a complex heart repair surgery when his assistant unexpectedly collapsed, prompting Brooklyn's sudden call to action.

Despite the urgency of the situation, Brooklyn couldn't help but wonder why she was the one called upon. The hospital was teeming with surgeons, after all.

The lead surgeon's face was obscured, but his technique was unmistakably that of a seasoned professional. Brooklyn was immediately struck by his mastery of wound depth assessment, suturing, and his swift, almost perfect movements.

The surgery lasted a grueling six hours, during which Brooklyn wiped the lead surgeon's sweat from his brow over a hundred times. His skill and dedication left a lasting impression on her.

As the successful surgery concluded and the patient was wheeled out of the operating room, Brooklyn busied herself with organizing the surgical instruments. It was then that she heard that familiar male voice once again.

"Dr. Mitchell."

The lead surgeon removed his mask, revealing a face dampened by sweat and a gentle smile.

It was him! The man she had crossed paths with outside the intensive care unit.

"Dr. Mitchell, thank you." His voice was soft, pleasant, and soothing.

"You're much younger than I expected. Given your skill in the operating room, I assumed you were a middle-aged doctor," Brooklyn confessed, her gaze lingering on the man. She couldn't deny his exceptional talent.

The man chuckled, "Age doesn't necessarily equate to maturity. It's the number of surgeries performed that truly counts." Despite the grim subject matter, he always managed to maintain a smile.

"Hello, I'm Zach Carter. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Brooklyn mentally noted the name. Zach Carter? It sounded vaguely familiar.

"Hello, Dr. Carter. I'm Brooklyn Mitchell." She extended her hand, and they shared a brief handshake.

As they exited the operating room, Zach turned to her with a smile, "You must be wondering why I requested your assistance, right?"

"And how you knew my name?" Brooklyn added, suddenly recalling their initial encounter.

Why did this stranger seem to know her so well?

Zach merely shrugged, "Would you like to know?"

Brooklyn smirked inwardly. He might be a skilled surgeon and easy on the eyes, but his attempts at flirting were laughable.

"Sorry, I don't want to know," she replied.
Dear CEO, Please Be Gentle!
