Chapter 384 Reversal, Joining Aucester Hospital

Brian nodded, his eyes firm and serious. "That's right, I want to invite Ms. Taylor to join Aucester Hospital."

Scarlett's delicate eyebrows suddenly furrowed. "I never take a position at any hospital. Sorry, Mr. Kingsley, I cannot accept."

This proposal was really not good. Brian personally came to see her, was it just to find a doctor for Aucester Hospital?

But Brian smiled. "I guessed you would refused, but Ms. Taylor, why not hear me out?"

Scarlett's slender fingers circled the rim of the teacup, turning it round and round. The half-full tea inside swayed with her movements, the tea had long gone cold, leaving a slightly bitter aftertaste. "Go ahead."

Brian picked up the teapot and raised it slightly. "Ms. Taylor is a cardiology expert, so you probably understand that heart disease is still a challenge in current medicine, right?"

The teapot in his hand was likened to a medical challenge, bending his arm.

"That's right, with the current level of medicine, there are still some challenges. But most heart diseases can be cured, which is what makes heart disease different from tumors." she nodded.

Was he actually discussing medical issues with her? What was Brian thinking?

He still held the teapot, steam spouting from its spout, quickly dissipating into the air. "Naturally, most heart diseases have corresponding treatment plans. But it's just a life bought with a two hundred thousand dollar surgery fee."

Scarlett frowned. "Mr. Kingsley would care about a mere two hundred thousand dollars?"

"I might not care, but Ms. Taylor, please think about it. Based on the national income of Averlake, how many families can afford two hundred thousand dollars in medical expenses? And how many patients ultimately have to give up treatment because of the huge medical bills?" Brian asked.

Scarlett frowned, gripping the cup in her hand. She had read a report that said eighty percent of patients with severe heart disease died because they couldn't afford the medical bills. Even if they were cured, they would be burdened with huge debts for the rest of their lives, living in hardship. "So? What is Mr. Kingsley trying to say?"

Brian finally poured a cup of tea from the teapot, the fragrance of the tea filling the air, sweet and mellow. "Libertya is a populous country, with a per capita income far below that of Averlake. Every year, hundreds of thousands, even millions, of patients die because they can't afford treatment. Don't you think these lives are precious, Ms. Taylor?"

Scarlett frowned as she looked at Brian. The worry and anxiety on his face seemed as if he bore the weight of millions of lives. Fine lines crept up to the corners of his eyes, adding a touch of weariness to his appearance.

"Mr. Kingsley, what exactly do you want to cooperate with me on?" she was confused.

Brian placed the filled teacup in front of her and tapped the table. "MBK Group is investing in Aucester Hospital to help economically disadvantaged patients get a chance to survive. But we now need to train a group of doctors like Ms. Taylor to perform surgeries for patients free of charge. MBK Group will cover all the costs. Aucester Hospital wants to cure lower-income peopl. But due to the limitations of medical standards, we need Ms. Taylor to humble yourself and be a teacher for a few days."

Scarlett's fingers touched the hot teacup, her cold fingertips suddenly warming up. "Aucester Hospital is a private hospital with profit as its main goal. Mr. Kingsley, are you trying to fool me?"

"You truly are a genius doctor! Alright, to be honest with you, Aucester Hospital is funding free treatment for patients to promote itself as a world-class hospital. But, if patients can survive because of this, it's a win-win situation, isn't it?"

Scarlett felt that this proposal was not simple.

"Aucester Hospital has nearly five thousand people dying from heart disease every year, especially from mitral valve and Tetralogy of Fallot, which Ms. Taylor specializes in. The lives of more than five thousand people are in Ms. Taylor's hands. I don't need to elaborate on the importance, do I?"

Mitral valve replacement surgery was a medical challenge. Not to mention the expensive medical costs, the surgical complexity alone could overwhelm the vast majority of doctors.

Brian was right.

"Of course, I know your principle of saving lives, you won't save the non-privileged and the non-wealthy. I just want to represent tens of thousands of patients to ask Ms. Taylor to lower yourself once. Aucester Hospital will give you the highest treatment, absolutely not disrespecting you. If you don't agree, so be it." Brian said.

He wanted the Aucester Hospital to gain a good reputation internationally, how shameful!

But he was willing to fund free surgeries for patients, how commendable.

The balance in Scarlett's heart was tilting. "I need to think about it."

Brian nodded. "Alright, I'll give you a day. Right now, there's a patient in the hospital who needs surgery and can't wait."

Taking the gold-embossed business card Brian handed over, Scarlett's lips pressed slightly. "I'll get back to you as soon as possible."

She walked out of the teahouse, feeling a bit complicated.

How did she become so indecisive? She should have refused it directly.

Rubbing her eyebrows in frustration, she asked herself, "What's going on?"

Meanwhile, in the teahouse, Brian dialed a number. "Yancy, notify Aucester Hospital that I have approved George's project. Tell him that Aucester Hospital is about to gain an excellent talent, he will understand what I mean."

"Yes, Mr. Kingsley."

Putting down the phone, Brian looked at the teapot, his lips slightly tilted. "Letting the poor benefit, how ridiculous!"

He picked up the teacup and poured the freshly brewed fine tea directly into the lake.

Back at the villa, Scarlett pondered Brian's invitation.

If she agreed to the invitation, she would probably have to stay at Aucester Hospital for a long time, and she couldn't go back to Averlake.

If she refused, after all, doctors had compassion. How could she bear to see vibrant lives die?

As she was pondering, Scarlett thought of Sebastian had said that while she was his private doctor, she couldn't treat anyone else.

What a strange father and son duo, pulling her in a tug-of-war.

"Scarlett." Sebastian entered and called her name. Scarlett quickly slipped Brian's business card into her pocket. "Mr. Kingsley, what's the matter?"

"Are you going to participate in Aucester Hospital's project?" Sebastian asked directly, not even giving her time to hesitate.

Scarlett didn't plan to hide it, so she nodded and admitted, "Your father approached me, hoping I would join Aucester Hospital's project."

"It seems you've forgotten what I said." Sebastian's sharp eyebrows moved dangerously.

"But this project concerns the lives of tens of thousands of people."

"When did Ms. Taylor become a savior? Tens of thousands? Countless lives die every day from disease, hunger, natural disasters, and accidents. Do you intend to save every single one?" Sebastian snorted.

Scarlett felt uncomfortable hearing his words. Once upon a time, she had the same thoughts, especially when she was lying in the hospital, wrapped in white bandages, her mind blank.

Three hundred days, she didn't even know how she made it through.

During the three hundred days, she remained silent, like a fool, lying in a luxurious private ward, her heart turning to stone bit by bit.

At that time, she was in despair with the world, closing her heart to the outside.

Shaking her head, Scarlett dismissed her wild thoughts. "You and I are different. You are a businessman, I am a doctor. I have my principles. Your biggest problem now is a mental one, you don't need me by your side. As for the driver, Owen will be back immediately if you need."

"So, you are determined to go to Aucester Hospital?" Sebastian's large hand actually rested on her shoulder, leaning in, his chin lowered, staring at Scarlett's stubborn and unyielding face.

"Yes." A minute ago, she was still hesitating, but now, she was certain.

"No regrets?" Sebastian probed, deeply gazing into her clear eyes.

"I never regret my decisions." Scarlett raised her chin, looking directly into his eyes.

"Very well."

So, was Sebastian agreeing?

The news that Scarlett would serve as a special professor at Aucester Hospital spread like wildfire, causing a huge stir at Aucester Hospital overnight.

How did the legendary arrogant royal doctor get persuaded? How much money did Aucester Hospital offer her?

Facing the gossip, Scarlett just smiled it off.

Two days later, at Aucester Hospital.

A black Bentley sped into the hospital gates, and through the car window, Scarlett saw a row of doctors standing outside the emergency building, cautiously waiting.

George and all the leaders and main doctors of the cardiology department came out to greet her. Seeing Scarlett's car drive in, they collectively moved forward several steps.

Scarlett parked the car and frowned at the sight of the doctors outside. One doctor had already stepped forward to open the car door, bowing respectfully. "Welcome to Aucester Hospital."

She nodded slightly and walked up to George and the others. "Hello, I'm Scarlett Taylor."

George, over-fifty-year-old, shook Scarlett's hand with joy, full of praise. "I never thought Aucester Hospital to be this honored. Scarlett, thank you on behalf of all the patients!"

As he spoke, George was about to bow in gratitude, but Scarlett stopped him. "George, you're too kind. Find a cardiologist to take me to see the patients."

Contrary to what all the doctors imagined, Scarlett didn't put on any airs when she entered the hospital. She was just stern-faced and spoke in a slightly cool tone, nothing more.

"Alright! Dr. Scott, take Scarlett to see the patients." George nodded.

Samantha, who was named, stepped out from among the male doctors and looked at Scarlett. "Please follow me."

Seeing it was Samantha, Scarlett remembered the little tricks Samantha and Piper played at the party that night. She kept her guard up but didn't show it. "Alright."

After examining the patient, Scarlett quickly wrote on the medical record. "Schedule the surgery as soon as possible. The patient is very dangerous."

Samantha exchanged glances with the doctors beside her. "We know the patient is dangerous, but currently, you are the only one capable of performing this surgery."

Scarlett looked at the three or four young doctors. "So far, Aucester Hospital doesn't have a single lead surgeon?"

"Dr. Taylor, this kind of complex heart disease, not to mention ordinary doctors, even seasoned experts wouldn't dare to operate casually," a male doctor said in a low voice.

Scarlett checked the time. "The patient needs surgery as soon as possible. Prepare the operating room, we'll start at five in the afternoon."

"But what about the surgical team?" the male doctor asked.

Assistants, anesthesiologists, and instrument nurses all needed to be reorganized.

"Go to the anesthesiology department and find the best anesthesiologist, and the most experienced instrument mechanic. I'll choose the assistants myself." Scarlett replied.

"Alright!"

She strode out of the ward and opened her phone. "Mr. Kingsley, since you agreed to let me come to Aucester Hospital, please release my two assistants. I need them to complete the surgery."

Sebastian sat in the MBK Group office, and Dario nodded at him, indicating it was done.

"Your assistants should already be at the hospital entrance. Take it easy, I never go back on my word." He said.

Dear CEO, Please Be Gentle!
