Chapter 313 Brooklyn Got Arrested

Lawrence just stood there, clearly not interested in talking to Brooklyn or even acknowledging her.

"Brooklyn! What's happening? Are those doctors just making stuff up?" Quinn was already running late when he heard the news. He sprinted to the obstetrics department and saw the police gathered there.

Brooklyn got up, her wrists in cold handcuffs, and said, "It's true."

Quinn's heart nearly broke from fear. He shook his head, trembling. "No way. I know you wouldn't do something like this!"

Quinn grabbed a police officer's arm, shouting, "Let her go! Do you even know who she is? She's Sebastian's wife! The lady of the Kingsley family!"

The police officer decisively blocked Quinn, acting strictly by the book without regard for who was involved, because Jennifer had authorized it; even if Sebastian himself had come, it wouldn't have made a difference.

The police officer said, "Mr. Kingsley, please step aside and let us do our job."

"No way! Let her go!" Quinn yelled, thinking they were all a bunch of jerks.

Brooklyn looked at Quinn, who was almost losing it, and tried to calm him down. "It's okay, Quinn. I'll explain everything. Just calm down and go be with Sebastian. He can't get worked up right now. Don't let him know anything, and if you can, keep this under wraps."

This was her last request. Sebastian's heart had been through too much; any stress could be really dangerous.

Quinn didn't want to leave, thinking if Sebastian were okay, these people wouldn't dare mess with Brooklyn! He felt guilty, hating himself for not having Sebastian's power to protect those he cared about. "Brooklyn, I'll find a way."

Lawrence chimed in, "Quinn, Brooklyn intentionally harmed Megan, causing her to miscarry. Megan and Sebastian's child is gone, and Brooklyn has to take responsibility. Don't get in the way of the police. Step aside."

Quinn walked up to Lawrence, a crooked smile on his face, looking defiant. "A miscarriage? Megan's really lucky. Now she doesn't have to go through the hassle of ten months of pregnancy. See, it's a good thing."

"Quinn! One more word and you'll regret it!" Lawrence's eyes widened, his gaze sharp and menacing.

Quinn chuckled, "Mr. Turner, am I not speaking the truth? Don't get so worked up. If you get so mad that your old illness flares up, will I have to go to jail too?"

Piper stepped in, blocking Quinn, "Mr. Kingsley, being unreasonable won't help. Don't be so childish."

'Damn it! How dare they make Brooklyn ride in a police car with handcuffs! A bunch of jerks!' Quinn thought.

Quinn stormed into the elevator, fuming. He punched the steel panel in frustration, blood oozing from his knuckles. With a deep frown, he hit the button for the 24th floor.

"Zach!" Quinn yelled, "Zach, get out here!"

Zach, exhausted from surgery and rounds, had been napping in his office. He didn't expect to be woken up by Quinn's shouting.

"What's going on?" Zach rubbed his forehead, looking worn out.

Quinn didn't waste any time. "Brooklyn got taken away by the police."

"What did you just say?" Zach asked, shocked.

In the car, Quinn explained everything. Zach, frustrated and heartbroken, punched the steering wheel. "Idiot!"

Quinn was taken aback. "Who's the idiot?"

Zach glanced at Quinn's young, handsome face. "Brooklyn."

"How dare you insult Brooklyn!" Quinn grabbed Zach's collar, ready to throw a punch.

Zach broke free. "She's not just an idiot; she's self-destructive!"

"Say one more word, and I'll hit you!" Quinn warned.

Zach ignored his rage. "Right now, the best thing to do is stay quiet and wait for the lawyer. Brooklyn's trying to send herself to prison."

"You're talking nonsense! Brooklyn wouldn't do that!" Quinn said, not believing a word.

Zach didn't want to argue with a kid.

When they got to the police station, Zach asked to see Brooklyn, but she refused to see anyone.

Quinn scratched his head anxiously. "What is Brooklyn doing? Why won't she see us?"

Zach pressed his forehead hard. "The lawyer will be here soon. We need to see her before she confesses. No matter how much she wants to self-destruct, she can't plead guilty!"

Quinn was confused. "What are you talking about? Brooklyn would never want to die! Shut up!"

The lawyer arrived, and Brooklyn, as the defendant, had to go through the usual procedural statements.

Across a long table, Brooklyn sat in a chair, her face still stained with blood, her lips pale and dry, her hair a mess. She looked as haggard as a refugee.

Zach's heart ached, feeling like it was splitting in two. He tried to speak calmly. "Brooklyn, I know you didn't intentionally harm Megan, so you can't admit it. If you do, you'll really spend the rest of your life here."

Brooklyn lifted her chin, her eyes empty and lifeless. "How is Sebastian? He didn't hear the news, did he? In his condition, he can't get agitated, let alone angry. You know that!"
