Chapter 369 Even God Won't Forgive Me
The party had just kicked off, and most of the crowd was young, rich, and part of the social elite. It was clear that James's bash tonight was all about having a good time.
Sebastian was surrounded by fans, holding a wine glass lazily and taking the occasional sip, though it was hard to tell if he was actually drinking. Compliments were flying as a bunch of guys tried to get on Sebastian's good side, unintentionally stealing the spotlight from the real host, James.
"Sebastian, you're such a magnet. No matter where you go, people just flock to you. It's impressive. It's one thing for women to be into you, but guys too."
Just then, a clear, sharp female voice cut through the party noise. Scarlett looked up at the grand staircase and saw a tall woman descending the red-carpeted steps. She was dressed in a striking white mermaid gown with a deep V neckline that showcased her décolletage. The gown shimmered with flashy sequin decorations that caught and reflected the party lights, creating a dazzling spectacle.
Adorning her neck was a red gemstone necklace that looked exquisite, likely an heirloom or a high-end piece from a renowned jeweler. A diamond-studded clutch dangled from her hand, sparkling with every movement, and on her feet were silver high heels, easily standing four inches tall, adding to her statuesque presence. The entire ensemble screamed luxury, a meticulous display of opulence and style that was easily worth at least a million dollars.
Piper made a grand entrance, instantly grabbing everyone's attention. As she walked down the stairs, people automatically made way for her, and she headed straight for Sebastian.
Scarlett smirked. There were always so many women around Sebastian!
Sebastian had one hand in his pocket, his eyes calm as he looked at Piper. "Ms. Rivera, you're too kind."
Piper grabbed a glass of red wine from a waiter's tray and raised it to Sebastian. "Long time no see, Mr. Kingsley."
Sebastian tilted his glass slightly in response. "Long time no see."
Scarlett wanted to roll her eyes. So, this was a reunion of old flames after all these years?
James also raised his glass and glanced at Piper. "Piper, you might give people the wrong idea about your relationship with Mr. Kingsley. Don't overshadow Megan."
Piper laughed heartily. "James, you're right. Mr. Kingsley is Megan's fiancé! I misspoke earlier, I'll make up for it with a drink!"
Piper tilted her head back and downed the rest of the red wine, then turned the glass upside down to show it was empty.
"Ms. Rivera is indeed a woman of her word!" James said.
Scarlett crossed her arms and watched the social drama unfold in the middle of the party. Her eyes narrowed, a glimmer of cold disdain spreading from her gaze down to the tight line of her jaw. How utterly boring, she thought.
Piper and Megan must be close, and her high-profile announcement just now was clearly a warning to the women present that Sebastian was taken, so they should back off. She was definitely skilled in social games.
"By the way, where's Megan? Why hasn't she shown up yet?" Piper asked.
The question was aimed at Sebastian, but he seemed too lazy to respond, so James stepped in. "Megan's been under the weather lately, so she probably won't make it."
Piper smiled and half-jokingly said, "Mr. Kingsley, your fiancée isn't feeling well. You should go check on her soon."
Sebastian frowned slightly. Piper was getting bold, daring to give him orders in front of everyone.
"No need for your reminder," he replied coolly, clearly not wanting to talk about Megan.
Quinn walked into the banquet hall in a black suit, his white stand-up collar shirt highlighting the sharp lines of his jaw. His lips held a smile, always with a hint of mockery. His eyes, playful and never lingering on anything for long, gave off an air of casual ease.
Quinn's arrival naturally drew a lot of attention, especially from the women who had been subtly warned by Piper. Now, they pinned their hopes on Quinn.
Quinn waved at them, seemingly enthusiastic, but his smile never reached his eyes, which scanned the room with a mixture of boredom and irritation. His message was clear: he wasn't interested.
Quinn walked lightly and quickly into the hall, greeted James and the others, and stood next to Sebastian, complaining in a low voice, "Sebastian, this is so boring. Can we go home?"
"Since you're here, stay until the end. You'll have to face the business matter sooner or later." Sebastian had his own way of handling business parties, and no one dared to challenge him. But Quinn, being less experienced, didn't like playing mind games with others. Sebastian figured it was a good opportunity for his brother to get used to such occasions.
Quinn rubbed his forehead. "Alright, I'll listen to you."
James raised his glass and smiled. "Quinn, how's it going with managing the group recently?"
Quinn wasn't very fond of James, so his response was somewhat perfunctory. He was someone whose emotions showed on his face and couldn't hide his true feelings. "Managing the group? It's pretty boring, but at least it's more fun than being here."
James laughed heartily. "Quinn, you still like to joke around, just like when I first met you in Averlake."
Quinn felt disdain in his heart but smiled on the surface. He thought, 'A bunch of businessmen, not a single good one among you!'
Scarlett's red lips slowly curved into a smile as she observed Quinn, thinking to herself how small the world was. The man who had raced with her turned out to be Sebastian's brother, Quinn.
She stood on the outskirts of the circle, indifferent, just waiting for this group of people to finish their social niceties and pretenses so she could go about her business. Unexpectedly, her peaceful moment didn't last long.
As she was contemplating how to make her exit, Quinn's tall figure in black suddenly appeared in front of her. His eyes were filled with curiosity and amusement. He skillfully played with the wine glass in his hand, his playful smile accompanied by a somewhat youthful voice. "Miss, we really are fated! I can even meet you here, it seems that if I don't pursue you, even God won't forgive me."
