Chapter 216 "Do you love me?"

Sebastian spotted the sniper in the building across the street, then quickly turned back to John, waiting for his move. He edged forward, closing the distance; twenty yards, fifteen, ten.

Zach trailed behind, shouting, "John, pick me or Mr. Kingsley. Let Dr. Mitchell go!"

John laughed, "Brooklyn, look at this! So many people are willing to die for you. Isn't that touching?"

Brooklyn, pale and weak from blood loss, whispered, "Didn't you say you wanted to die with me? Jump now, and I'll join you."

She was ready to sacrifice herself but didn't want Sebastian in danger. Her life didn't matter, but he had to survive.

John's tone shifted, "Brooklyn, wouldn't it be more fun if I died with Mr. Kingsley instead?"

"You're insane!"

"Then I'll show you how insane I can be!"

John tightened his grip on her neck, grinning wickedly.

"Mr. Kingsley, you want to die for her? Fine. If you die, she'll be a widow, and no one will dare touch her!"

"Madman!" Brooklyn gritted her teeth, feeling the pain in her neck.

Sebastian's eyes darkened with murderous intent. "Let her go. I'll come over."

"Let her go? Too simple. You come first!"

"Don't come, Sebastian. We've come this far; you don't need to do anything for me. Just leave and continue being Mr. Kingsley. We're done."

Her words cut deep. Sebastian wished she'd say, "Save me! I don't want to die!"

However, she never would.

The night was dark, with lights flickering as stars and the moon covered the sky. A perfect early summer night for a walk.

Sebastian smiled faintly. 'Maybe later.'

"Mr. Kingsley, let me go. I'll take her place."

Zach stepped forward, warning John, "Use my life for hers. Deal?"

John laughed darkly, "What's the point, Dr. Carter? Brooklyn isn't your lover, not even a rumored girlfriend. She's Sebastian's wife. Don't be foolish."

Zach stayed calm, "I'm different. I'm willing to die for her."

Brooklyn shook her head. 'No one should die because of me; I'd feel guilty forever.'

"What's the difference? I can die with her right now!"

Sebastian frowned, "Mr. Carter, you'll just provoke him. I'll go over, and you take care of Brooklyn. Make sure she gets treated."

Despite the pain and tension, Sebastian stayed calm while analyzing the situation.

Zach stopped arguing. He wanted to help Brooklyn. 'What's so bad about dying?'

But for now, he had to listen to Sebastian, "Be careful."

Sebastian moved toward John, stepping onto the edge of the rooftop, "Let her go."

The wind blew against his chiseled face. Brooklyn looked at him like he was a distant dream.

"Sebastian, why are you doing this? You know it's over." her tears streamed down her face.

He wanted to wipe her tears to make up for his past actions. However, she might die if he moved now.

Thus ,he held back.

"Let her go."

His face was fearless, as if dying for her was something he was willing to do.

The people below were stunned!

'Sebastian will die with this scumbag?'

John was shorter than Sebastian, making it hard to hold him hostage. However, his knife was his best weapon. One stab, and Sebastian would be dead.

The knife pointed at Sebastian's heart!

Brooklyn was pushed off the high platform, the narrow ledge barely wider than a man's foot. One misstep, and she'd fall to her death.

Zach rushed forward, grabbing Brooklyn and shielding her, "Quick! Stop the bleeding!"

She struggled, "No need. Let me go over."

"You still want to go? Dr. Mitchell, you're losing too much blood; you could die. You can't go over; I'll bandage you now."

Sweat was streaming on Zach's forehead, the recent panic still lingering. He pressed his hand on her wound, "Sebastian will find a way out. Stay calm."

'How could I stay calm! That narrow ledge, it was already hard for a man to stand on it. John was desperate, going all out. However, Sebastian couldn't.'

Brooklyn struggled free from Zach, "Let me go over."

She walked over, looking up at Sebastian under the moonlight.

Despite the knife pointed at his chest, he stood still with a calm gaze.

Even when held hostage, he remained dignified and composed.

He was truly strong.

Before Brooklyn could say a word, Sebastian's deep voice gently said, "Don't be afraid, be good."

"Sebastian, why are you so foolish?" Her tears flowed uncontrollably.

He smiled, "Before I die, I have a few questions to ask you."

Her vision blurred with tears, nodding desperately, "You can't die, you won't."

His gaze lowered. In his eyes, there were no reporters, audience, or criminals;, only her. He asked, "Do you love me?"
