Chapter 438 The Finale Auction Item
As soon as the words "one million dollars" were spoken, the room erupted in chatter. Some people sighed at Leo's recklessness, others were secretly amazed that someone would spend a million dollars on such a thing, and some just looked at the source of the voice and smiled without saying anything.
"One million dollars? Just for this painting?"
"Having money really lets you do whatever you want!"
Brandon's lips curled into a mischievous and sly smile as he asked, a bit nonchalantly, "Ms. Mitchell, do you want to raise the bid?"
Brooklyn shrugged and put down her paddle. "Since someone is determined to get it, I should let them have it, right? It's good to be generous and leave some room for negotiation."
Brandon looked at Brooklyn in surprise, it was as if he was seeing her for the first time. Brooklyn felt utterly unfamiliar, like someone who had stepped down from a great height, visiting merely to witness the ignorance of the mere mortals.
He was startled by his own sudden feeling and quickly looked away, turning to observe the other women in the hall.
Damn it, why did he suddenly feel a strange admiration for Brooklyn? No, that couldn't be right. Brooklyn was just a pretty face, wasn't she?
But as Brandon looked at the countless socialites and beauties in the hall, he couldn't help but think that none of them were as pleasing to the eye as Brooklyn, whether they were heavily made-up or bare-faced.
Brandon silently rubbed his forehead. Was he starting to idolize Brooklyn?
Sebastian, with his legs crossed, watched everything unfold with the same indifferent expression as before. It wasn't until the final hammer fell, and "Dance of the Nebulae" was sold for a million dollars, that he revealed a faint, enigmatic smile.
Seeing Sebastian's strange smile, Dario cautiously asked, "Mr. Kingsley, aren't you going to try for this painting? Mrs. Kingsley likes it..."
Sebastian raised his hand to stop Dario from finishing his sentence and then smiled. "I know she had her eye on it."
Dario thought Sebastian was going to say more, but after waiting for a long time, Sebastian remained silent, his expression returning to its usual calm and detached state as he continued to watch the next item on display.
Sebastian's hand tapped his knee rhythmically, showing that he was in a relaxed and comfortable mood.
Dario was puzzled. Given Sebastian's temperament, he would never let anyone else have something Brooklyn wanted, right? Yet today, Kevin's assistant had snatched it away.
Dario was truly baffled.
After a while, another auction item caught Brooklyn's attention.
Brooklyn tilted her head and asked Brandon, "What do you think this antique bracelet is worth?"
Brandon squinted his eyes. The bracelet , though not very old, had excellent craftsmanship and materials. He nodded and concluded, "Two million dollars. That's my estimate. Any more, and it might not be worth it."
Brooklyn's slender fingers tapped her paddle, and she noticed the sign for the Hope & Harmony Auction, indicating that the proceeds would go to charity.
"What's on your mind?" Brandon asked quickly, seeing her expression. After the earlier experience, he was eager to interpret every subtle change in Brooklyn's expressions.
Brooklyn smiled slightly. "Why are you so nervous? I won't make you spend money, but I think it's good to raise more funds for charity."
With that, she raised her paddle.
The starting bid was two hundred thousand dollars, with each increment no less than twenty thousand dollars.
Bidders raised their paddles one after another, but after one round, the price only reached five hundred and forty thousand dollars. After all, such items were neither rare nor common.
Susie saw Brooklyn raise her paddle and sneered. "Even this kind of thing?"
Brooklyn hadn't been seen with Sebastian recently, and there was no news about them. Susie assumed they had broken up. Now, Brooklyn was just a doctor with some savings. How could she compete with Marc?
Susie raised her paddle and said with a bright smile, "Honey, this bracelet is quite nice, isn't it?"
Marc was noncommittal. "If you like it, bid for it."
Susie beamed. "Thank you, honey."
But as the price climbed higher, Susie couldn't keep raising her paddle.
"Are you crazy? A bracelet going for one million four hundred thousand dollars!" Susie threw down her paddle in frustration, gritting her teeth. The price was too high for her to bid casually, so she sneered. "It's not that great anyway. I don't want it."
"One million eight hundred thousand dollars." the host said.
Brooklyn raised an eyebrow. "Two million dollars."
An elegant voice broke through the many others, and many people couldn't help but look at Brooklyn, thinking she must be crazy.
"Two million dollars, going once..."
"Three million dollars."
The room erupted in astonishment once again!
Dario couldn't stay calm. "Mr. Kingsley, did Mrs. Kingsley offend someone today? Why is it that everything she likes is being snatched away?"
Sebastian smiled indifferently, "Look closely at who is bidding."
Dario looked in the direction of the paddle. "It's Kevin's assistant."
Then, Dario understood.
Brooklyn smirked slightly. Brandon, the kids being helped are lucky. "Four million dollars."
Oh my God! She was just irrational!
Although love was priceless, this...
Leo raised his paddle as well. "Six million dollars!"
A bracelet everyone knew was worth at most two million dollars had now soared to six million dollars!
Brandon silently held his forehead. "Ms. Mitchell, it seems the other side is determined to compete with you."
Brooklyn smiled. "Six million six hundred thousand dollars." After calling out the price, she whispered, "Mr. Hernandez, if I really buy this, will I get scolded?"
Brandon laughed heartily. "Sebastian won't punish you."
"Seven million dollars." Leo continued to bid.
Brooklyn chuckled, put down her paddle, and smiled without saying another word.
The host exclaimed, "Congratulations to this gentleman for winning the bracelet for seven million dollars!"
Thunderous applause erupted, and everyone looked at Leo on the high platform.
Brandon was puzzled. 'Why did Mr. Kingsley come here today and not want anything? He even had tonight's auction items investigated, but there's no movement. Is there nothing he likes?'
He was musing when a delicate black inkstone appeared on the screen.
Her father would definitely like it. Even if her father didn't, Sebastian might.
So Brooklyn raised her paddle again.
Unsurprisingly, the item was auctioned off at a high price by Leo.
Brandon was angry "Ms. Mitchell, you've had three items snatched away in a row. Can you tolerate this?"
Brooklyn said indifferenty. "Why not? If he likes it, he can have it. The other side has more money."
Brandon's mouth twitched. This must be making Sebastian feel quite awkward.
Dario was restless and asked Sebastian, "Mr. Kingsley, Mrs. Kingsley has lost three items she wanted. This..."
Sebastian looked at the time, calculated the sequence in his mind, and said, "Why rush? What's meant for her will always be hers."
Dario had to suppress his confusion and sit down. Well, Sebastian was always right.
"Ladies and gentlemen, tonight's auction is coming to an end. Next, we present the final item of the evening."
As the host's words fell, a dazzling diamond ring appeared on the screen.
Completely different from the diamonds displayed in ordinary jewelry stores, and distinct from top custom diamonds, it was a ring so exquisitely crafted it seemed divine. Its brilliance wasn't due to an impressive carat count but its understated yet elegant design that encompassed all sharpness.
Suddenly, the ring split into two, revealing a delicate women's ring inside the larger band! Just like how Eve was created from Adam's rib, this ring seemed to be bone of his bone, flesh of his flesh! Perfectly fitting, inseparable in life and death!
Everyone present was captivated by the ring's uniqueness.
They were completely stunned! Just seeing it today was enough to make their hearts flutter.
"Oh my! There's actually such a pair of rings!"
"So beautiful!"
The ring seemed alive, every detail vivid and lifelike. The enlarged ring, flawless from every angle, shone with a clean, dazzling white light.
Piper and Megan exchanged a shocked glance, while James, Simon, and others stared at the ring, its brilliance overwhelming!
Such an item was truly a treasure!
The host intruduced. "These rings are crafted from diamonds taken from Queen Nyloria's crown, split into two. They have been passed down for a thousand years, witnessing countless unforgettable loves. They are called Forever Embrace."
Brooklyn looked at the rings on the screen, her eyes also shining. "They're really beautiful."
Brandon nodded. "Good stuff! Looks like tonight's finale is this pair of rings."
Suddenly, he thought of something and sent a text to Sebastian: [Your wife says they're beautiful.]
Sebastian's lips curled into a meaningful smile. He didn't reply but said softly, "Of course, it's also what I want."
With the finale item on stage, everyone was ready to give it their all!
Kevin looked at the rings, his eyes slightly smiling. Finally, he had found a gift worthy of Brooklyn. It was these rings!
He believed that one day he would have the chance to lift her hand and place one of them on her finger.
From then on, Forever Embrace!
The new bidding officially began.
James squinted his long, narrow eyes. "Piper, what do you think?"
"What, are you going to give them to me?" Piper laughed.
James was helpless. "Piper, you're overthinking. I want to bid on these rings to use as wedding rings in the future. They'd be perfect."
Simon and Megan exchanged a distant glance, then looked away.
Sebastian sat in the VIP seat, sipping coffee, quietly watching the bidders below and a certain striking figure among the crowd.
"Twenty million dollars."
"Twenty-two million dollars."
"Forty million dollars."
"Wow! Are they all crazy?" Brandon was shocked.
Brooklyn smirked. "They are rich. They don't mind spending tens of millions of dollars."
Brandon silently opened his mouth. "Ms. Mitchell, you..."
Halfway through, Brandon closed his mouth. He actually wanted to say, "Brooklyn, the higher the price goes, the more your husband will have to spend tonight!"
