Chapter 530 Benedict Comes Forward to Save People
Aucester Hospital, Cardiology Specialist Clinic.
"Dr. Mitchell, here is your package."
"Thanks."
Brooklyn's assistant handed her a red envelope with only her name and address on it.
Opening it with a hint of suspicion, Brooklyn's lips curled into a cold smile.
Inside was a wedding invitation from Megan and Simon. The bright red card detailed the time and place, with her and Sebastian's names listed as the invited guests.
The wedding was in two days, at a five-star hotel in Aucester.
Who would've imagined that? After postponing their engagement, they went straight to the wedding.
Brooklyn set the invitation down, considering calling Sebastian. But seeing it was 11 AM in Libertya, she realized it was the middle of the night in Averlake and decided not to disturb his sleep.
"Dr. Mitchell, there's a patient in room 1806 who needs your attention. They had surgery three days ago and suddenly felt unwell."
"Alright."
Brooklyn grabbed the patient's file and her stethoscope and headed to the inpatient building. After diagnosing the patient, she stepped out and saw Zach coming out of another room. They exchanged smiles in the busy hallway.
"Zach, I need to talk to you. You've really messed up my assistant, Dr. Warner. She's been acting heartbroken, barely eating, or working. Shouldn't you take responsibility?"
Zach rubbed his forehead. "Dr. Warner has been avoiding me ever since she saw me with Ophelia at lunch yesterday."
Brooklyn crossed her arms, holding the patient file, "I don't care. My assistant is distracted because of you. You're the one she needs to talk to."
"Brooklyn! I've been looking everywhere for you! Why didn't you answer your phone? I was worried sick!"
A hurried voice broke the calm, and Arabella appeared, waving a patient file and shouting loudly.
Brooklyn glanced at her, then at Zach, with a mischievous smile. "Dr. Warner, what do you need?"
Arabella's face turned red when she saw Zach, stammering, "Uh, well, a patient just got their scan results. It's confirmed... cancer."
Zach nodded kindly at her, "What type of cancer? Contact the relevant department immediately and transfer the patient."
Arabella's face turned from red to embarrassed white and then to a conflicted green. "I... I just need Dr. Mitchell to sign off."
Brooklyn looked at them both, smiling internally, "Hand me the paperwork, I'll sign it."
"Okay."
Brooklyn signed the papers quickly, then teased, "Dr. Warner, anything else?"
Arabella forced a big smile. "No, that's all."
"If there's nothing else, I'll take Dr. Carter away." Brooklyn's eyes hinted at something deeper.
"Wait! I need to talk to Dr. Carter."
Zach glanced at Brooklyn, who was clearly enjoying herself, and sighed, "I was just about to ask Dr. Warner for coffee. Let's go."
Brooklyn waved them off, "Go ahead, Dr. Carter knows the best coffee spots."
Zach rubbed his forehead again, smiling helplessly.
Watching them walk away, Brooklyn checked her phone and saw two missed calls, one from Arabella and one from Kelly.
"Kelly, what's up?"
"Oh my God! You finally called back! Big news! Have you seen the news? Megan and Simon are getting married, and the media says they're spending millions on a dream wedding. How dare they!"
Brooklyn's ears were almost ringing from Kelly's excitement. So that's what it was about.
"I know, I got the invitation today. I'll be at the wedding."
Kelly crunched on some chips, "Your man isn't home, and you're going alone? Megan won't be nice to you. Be proud, don't go!"
Brooklyn smiled slightly, "A million-dollar wedding? Missing out would be a shame."
Kelly gave her a long lecture on the hardships and concluded, "You two don't get along, you'll definitely clash. Stay alert, and dress to impress. Crush Megan!"
"Definitely!"
That night, Brooklyn called Sebastian before bed, asking when he'd be back.
Sebastian said at least three days, so Brooklyn didn't mention the wedding, not wanting him to worry.
The next morning, Brooklyn took Dario's car to the hospital and received a call halfway there.
An unfamiliar number, from overseas.
"Hello, who is this?"
"I'm not well, very unwell, especially my heart."
Brooklyn's mouth opened in surprise, "Professor Harrington! It's you!"
Benedict sat in Brooklyn's office, his dark robe attracting curious glances from doctors and nurses, who thought he might be a fortune-teller.
But Brooklyn's respectful treatment of him shocked everyone!
What was going on?
Brooklyn personally served tea to the eccentric old man, smiling warmly, making the onlookers envious.
The goddess's smile wasn't for everyone, nor was her tea!
Benedict sipped the tea, smacking his lips, "Hmm, not bad. Little Brooklyn has learned to make tea. I need a tea maker. How about you make tea for me?"
Brooklyn smiled sweetly, almost childlike, "If Professor Harrington cures the girl, I'll make tea for you every day. Fair?"
Benedict clicked his tongue, "Little Brooklyn, not as obedient as before! Bargaining with me now!"
Brooklyn snatched the teacup from him, "Fine, I'll be disobedient. No treatment, no tea."
Benedict tapped her nose, "You're bold. Alright, take me to see her."
"Okay!"
Benedict took back the tea, savoring it, "Indeed, not bad! Little Brooklyn has grown up!"
Brooklyn laughed, "Professor Harrington, you've aged so much, how could I not grow up?"
"You..." Benedict laughed heartily, "Sharp-tongued!"
Benedict examined Sofia, remaining silent for over ten minutes. Brooklyn and Peregrine watched him closely, not saying a word.
As the tension grew, Brooklyn whispered, "Professor Harrington, don't tell me you can't help. If you say that, I'll take your tea and never make it for you again, nor cook for you!"
Benedict patted Brooklyn's head, gripping the teacup tighter. "This girl's will to live is strong. Ah, who can resist little Brooklyn's tea? Leave her to me!"
Peregrine looked uncertainly at Brooklyn, whispering, "Dr. Mitchell, is this... okay?"
Brooklyn smiled, "Don't worry. If he agrees, it's a sure thing. Sofia will be back to her lively self."
Peregrine bowed in thanks, "Thank you, sir! Thank you! If you save my daughter, I'll repay you however I can!"
Benedict scoffed, "How will you repay me? Can you make tea? Forget it, I don't expect repayment."
"Thank you, sir! Thank you!"
Benedict frowned, "Sir? Do I look old? Call me Professor Harrington!"
"Yes, yes, Professor Harrington, thank you!"
With Benedict's promise, Brooklyn felt relieved.
But she was curious, how did Sebastian convince him?
Sebastian entered the hotel suite and noticed someone inside under the moonlight.
"Who's there?"
His hand hovered over the light switch, eyes narrowing at the bed, where a white figure lay among the dark sheets. It wasn't clothing white, but skin white, a woman's skin.
"Sir, you're back..."
A soft, seductive voice came from the bed, followed by a strong scent. The woman walked barefoot, her silhouette visible in the moonlight, moving sensually.
"Stop."
Sebastian's cold, decisive command froze the slender figure, her voice even softer, "Sir, I'm here to serve you tonight."
Sebastian's eyes narrowed, a murderous look in his gaze, "I don't care how you got in. Get out now."
The woman widened her eyes, unable to see his expression in the dark, but his voice was too intimidating, "I... I'm here..."
"Out. You have one minute to get dressed and leave."
The woman hurriedly grabbed her clothes, fumbling in the dark, and fled.
Sebastian turned on the light, the suite still filled with her strong scent, which he found repulsive.
Who had the nerve to put a woman in his room?
James?
Sebastian's eyes darkened. Picking up his phone, he said, "James, what's the meaning of this?"
James, also staying at the hotel, was drinking beer. "Sebastian, long nights alone can be lonely. A beautiful woman to keep you company, isn't that nice?"
Sebastian snorted, "James, do you know where the last person who put a woman in my bed is now?"
James took a sip. "Where?"
"The west cemetery. I hear the weeds are three feet high. Want to help clear them?"
"Spit-take!"
James choked on his beer, "Sebastian, don't be serious! I just wanted you to have some fun. Men, you know. By the way, was she pretty? I picked her myself."
Sebastian loosened his tie, "I'm serious. Get over here and change the bedding yourself. Remember, you do it."
"Can't you call housekeeping?"
"You have one minute. 59, 58..."
"Okay! I'm coming!"
James rushed over, panting, "Sebastian, you finally got out. Trying a new woman would be good! Every man has a few mistresses. Eating the same dish gets boring, right?"
Sebastian frowned, "James, I'll be back in three minutes. I want new bedding and the scent gone."
James, "Where are you going?"
"To call my wife."
"Sebastian, really? Are you afraid of your wife?"
Sebastian stepped onto the balcony. It was midnight, and the luxurious Emporcia night sky was outside, but his thoughts were of Brooklyn.
It was lunchtime for Brooklyn.
When Sebastian called, Brooklyn was surprised and delighted. "Honey, it's so late. Why aren't you asleep?"
Sebastian's voice softened, "Someone keeps disturbing my dreams. I had to remind her."
