Chapter 84 No Need to Show Off in Front of me
However, this is not over yet.
Brooklyn had not left the hospital when Jennifer called. Brooklyn took a deep breath and answered the phone, "Hello."
"Where are you?"
"I'm at the hospital..."
"Come to the Chief Administrator's office right away!"
Brooklyn thought, 'Why does Jennifer ask me to go to Chief Administrator's office? What's going on?'
With doubts in her mind, Brooklyn weakly climbed the stairs and stood in front of the Chief Administrator's office. She looked up and saw Jennifer sitting elegantly on the sofa. Jennifer always dressed appropriately and exuded a noble aura wherever she went.
George was just speaking to Jennifer, seemingly trying to console her, but she clearly wasn't having it.
Brooklyn wondered, 'Why did it seem like George and Jennifer knew each other for a long time? And they seemed to have a close relationship.'
As Brooklyn entered the room, she had a bad feeling. Before she could even speak, Jennifer stood up from the sofa, walked over as Brooklyn struggled to stand steady, and slapped her across the face!
The crisp sound of the slap echoed as it landed on Brooklyn's face!
Brooklyn's head was immediately knocked to the side by Jennifer's slap! A metallic taste filled her mouth, and as she slowly turned her head back, crimson blood oozed from the corner of her mouth.
Five distinct finger marks were deeply imprinted on Brooklyn's fair face, leaving a burning red mark that was shocking to behold!
George was startled by Jennifer's anger and stood up to intervene, "Mrs. Jennifer, calm down. Dr. Mitchell didn't mean to harm Ms. Turner. It was a misunderstanding."
Brooklyn realized that Jennifer was indeed here for Megan.
Without giving Brooklyn a chance to speak, Jennifer glared at her coldly, "Brooklyn, remember this. Megan is the future daughter-in-law of the Kingsley family. She carries the flesh and blood of the Kingsley family in her belly. If you dare to have any ill intentions, I will make sure you are kicked out of the hospital!"
Brooklyn clenched her fists. She wasn't afraid of Megan, but she felt apprehensive toward this domineering woman in front of her. As the wife of the Kingsley family, Sebastian's biological mother, her words carried immense weight.
Suppressing her indignation, Brooklyn said, "I did not harm Megan. She has publicly admitted today's incident was a misunderstanding."
"Shut up! You even uttered the name Megan! Shameless!"
Brooklyn was reprimanded by Jennifer, and her facade of strength and crumbling dignity was completely shattered by Jennifer. She couldn't even gather the pieces of her shattered dignity.
Jennifer continued, "George, I'll cut to the chase. For Megan's safety, I hope Brooklyn will never set foot in the obstetrics and gynecology department again."
George nodded. At the moment, he couldn't go against her, "Mrs. Jennifer, rest assured, I will manage the staff properly for Megan's safety."
Jennifer picked up her handbag, held her head high, and left the Chief Administrator's office.
Brooklyn looked up and let the tears flow back into her eyes!
"Brooklyn," George sighed, "I know you've been wronged this time, but we can't afford to offend the Kingsley family. Not just you and me, but in Aucester, how many dare to confront the Kingsley family?"
Looking at the palm print on her face, George shook his head, "Go back and rest. I'll give you a few days off."
Brooklyn, holding onto her last bit of defense, said, "George, I'm fine."
She walked out of the Chief Administrator's office unsteadily. Tears almost welled up several times, but she kept reminding herself not to cry. She reminded herself, 'Brooklyn, you can't cry for anyone from the Kingsley family.'
But the more she told herself this, the more she felt the injustice that couldn't be released. The resentment and grievances filled her heart, almost suffocating her.
Zach went upstairs to find George for a signature and saw Brooklyn looking listless at the elevator. He asked with concern, "Dr. Mitchell, what happened?"
"It's nothing." She bit her lip, her voice trembling with tears.
"What happened to your face?!" Zach instinctively gripped her shoulders with concern and surprise in his urgent voice.
Brooklyn shrugged, trying to break free but failed, "It's okay."
Zach replied, "To say it's nothing when you've been hit like this, these deep marks need immediate anti-inflammatory treatment. Come with me. I'll apply a cold compress for you."
Brooklyn struggled, "No need, I can do it myself."
He firmly held her wrist, not allowing any resistance, "No need to show off in front of me."
He pulled her forcefully into his private lounge.
It was Brooklyn's first time in this room. Located on the top floor of the hospital, it was a clean one-bedroom suite, with only a few medical books on the desk and everything else neatly arranged.
Zach felt a bit awkward. Even though it was a lounge, bringing a woman in made it a bit uncomfortable. So he smiled, "It's just a place to nap. Sometimes, when working late, I spend the night here. Don't be shy. Suit yourself."
She looked around and saw that the room was equipped with standard hospital furnishings, but the few paintings hanging in the living room revealed the owner's exceptional taste.
"It's nice here," Brooklyn remarked.
Zach awkwardly patted his thighs with his hands, "You sit first. I'll go get some ice."
She could tell he was nervous.
"Thank you, Mr. Carter."
Brooklyn's face was burning with pain, unable to move or touch it. Instead of sitting down, she decided to find a mirror to see the extent of the damage to her face.
Approaching the sink, she held onto the edge of the basin with both hands. In the mirror, she saw that half of her face was swollen.
She couldn't hold back anymore, her fingers clenched the white porcelain sink, and tears streamed down her face.
