Chapter 252 Diagnosis Results

Night fell, and Sebastian was already asleep as Brooklyn tiptoed to the study and locked the door.

Brooklyn pulled out the application form Zach had given her from her bag, staring at it for a full five minutes and carefully writing her name with Sebastian's pen.

'If one of us has to leave, it has to be me. Running away might be disgraceful, but it is better than facing the harsh reality and getting slapped in the face repeatedly. My role in this marriage is truly awkward. If I leave, everything could go back to five years ago, with I never being here and never loved. As for  Sebastian, time would eventually make him forget.' Brooklyn thought.

The next day, Zach's office.

Zach held a medical report in his hand, as if struck by lightning!

'How could this be! It's impossible!' Zach thought.

Piper stood opposite him, suppressing her voice to remind him, "Dr. Carter, this is the latest medical report. The people at the medical center haven't leaked the news yet. I've already instructed them that if anyone dares to speak out, they'll be permanently removed from the hospital."

Zach couldn't hear anything, just staring at the data and professional terms on the medical report, his tall figure as if crushed by a building and pinned down under the rubble!

The test results show Brooklyn's blood had HIV!

'AIDS! How could this be!' Zach thought.

Seeing Zach's reaction, Piper cautiously said, "Dr. Carter, it's very likely Dr. Mitchell got infected last time when she was volunteering in the AIDS village, after all..."

"Enough." Zach coldly interrupted, stopping Piper from saying more. 'A lot indeed happened that day. Brooklyn's arms and hands were indeed injured, making the virus infection almost reasonable, but I couldn't accept it!' Zach thought.

"Dr. Carter." Piper said cautiously.

"Get out!"

Piper had just been reprimanded and was exiting the office when she bumped into Brooklyn, who was walking in with some forms in hand.

A barely-there smirk appeared on Piper's face. She thought, 'Brooklyn, oh, there's a juicy story waiting for you to discover!'

"Good morning, Dr. Mitchell," Piper greeted Brooklyn for the first time, a hint of mischief in her tone.

Brooklyn shot back a cold smile, "Morning, Dr. Rivera."

They brushed past each other, heading in opposite directions. Piper glanced back, watching as Brooklyn entered Zach's office. The smile on her face widened.

She thought, 'Your good days are over, Brooklyn.'

Hearing a knock on the door, Zach jolted out of his daze, looking up in surprise to find Brooklyn walking in.

He hastily shoved the health report under a stack of books, trying to adjust his demeanor and force a casual smile. "What can I do for you?"

Brooklyn bit her lip. "Dr. Carter, I've completed the recommendation form you asked me to fill out last time."

Zach's mind was a tangled mess; he could barely process what she was saying, let alone think about recommendations!

"Oh, just leave it here."

He wanted to get her out of the room quickly, fearing his emotions would spiral out of control. He still hadn't wrapped his head around the news.

Brooklyn placed the form face down on the desk. "Dr. Carter, I'm serious about this. I've thought it through carefully, so please don't have any reservations. Dr. Clark has nothing to worry about either."

Zach stared blankly at her lips as they moved, but he couldn't catch a single word. All he could think about was the stark black lettering on the health report, those black symbols magnified in his mind.

"Uh-huh."

She had said so much, and he had only managed a single syllable in response.

Brooklyn raised an eyebrow, puzzled.

"Is something wrong?"

The memory of him hiding something when she walked in made Brooklyn feel uneasy.

Zach quickly pulled himself together, pressing his fingers against his trembling legs. "No, I'm just a bit tired. You should head back. Actually, never mind, just go back for now."

With a frown and a stomach full of questions, Brooklyn returned to her office, where Sienna and the others were busy dissecting their health reports.

"I can't believe I'm anemic! I had no idea I was even unhealthy," one of them exclaimed.

"And mine says I have abnormal discharge!" another chimed in.

As Brooklyn walked in, Sienna leaned over with interest. "Dr. Mitchell, have your test results come back yet? These reports are ridiculous. They seem determined to dig up some issue to freak you out. It's infuriating!"

Brooklyn shook her head. "Not yet. I think they might be processing batches differently."

"Really? Weren't we all tested at the same time?" Sienna replied, raising an eyebrow.

The room was filled with a mix of frustration and confusion, each of them trying to make sense of the peculiarities in their reports.

"Dr. Mitchell, could you come here for a moment?"

Sienna and Ellie instinctively stepped back, their eyes widening as Piper herself appeared. This could only mean trouble.

Brooklyn put down her file folder with a sigh. "Sure."

In Piper's office, Brooklyn stood wearily in front of the desk, waiting for instructions. The atmosphere felt oddly charged today, with Piper fiddling with her pen and remaining silent.

"If there's nothing urgent, I really need to get back to work," Brooklyn said, trying to break the awkward silence.

Piper finally looked up, her immaculate makeup and full, sensuous lips as striking as ever. "Well, Dr. Mitchell. Your health report hasn't reached you yet. Don't you find that strange?"

Brooklyn shrugged, "Health checks are routine, Dr. Rivera. There's no need to waste time on these things."

Piper's eyes glinted with a mix of sympathy and condescension. "You should be grateful for the routine procedures, Dr. Mitchell. Remember when you were volunteering at the AIDS village? Did you sustain any injuries?"

Brooklyn nodded. "Yes, so what?"

Piper's expression softened with a hint of pity. "Dr. Mitchell, I have some difficult news. You've tested positive. I know this is hard to hear, but it's the truth."
