Chapter 283 Sebastian Discovers Brooklyn Has Been Kidnapped
Sebastian just strolled out of the office, brooding on what Brooklyn might be up to.
With a quick swipe, he tapped her number.
The phone rang, but no dice.
"She’s off work now, so why isn’t she picking up?" he thought.
He tried three more times, still nothing. Frustrated, he called Bayside Villas. The servant picked up, saying Brooklyn had gone out.
"Where’d she go?" he asked.
"Mrs. Kingsley didn’t say, but she seemed in a rush."
'What’s got her so worked up?' he wondered.
Sebastian checked the car’s driving record. It showed the car had been parked at an intersection for over two hours.
He hit the intercom, "Dario, get over here."
He told Dario to check the car’s location, feeling a sense of foreboding. 'Brooklyn’s been acting super weird lately. What’s she up to now?' he thought.
When Dario got there, he found the car with a parking ticket from two hours ago, but no Brooklyn.
"Mr. Kingsley, Mrs. Kingsley left the car and walked off. Nothing in the car looks messed with, so no struggle," Dario reported.
Sebastian nodded coldly, "Check the nearby surveillance."
"On it!"
Dario hit up the local police and got the last footage of Brooklyn.
"Mr. Kingsley, she parked here but then vanished into a blind spot. We can’t track her exact moves."
Sebastian’s brows knitted together. "Why would she head into a blind spot? This isn’t adding up. Is she dodging me, or did something go down?"
"Pull her last call records and see who she talked to today. Let me know ASAP if you find anything." Sebastian said, getting restless. He stood up, yanked at his tie, and paced.
Reluctantly, Sebastian dialed Zach’s number. Zach was in a meeting when the phone rang. He glanced at the number and frowned. The string of zeros at the end meant it wasn’t just any call.
"Hello?" Zach answered.
"Zach, it’s me," Sebastian said.
Zach froze at the voice. He signaled for the meeting to go on and stepped out. Piper squeezed her pen and checked the time on her phone.
"Dr. Mitchell isn't at the hospital and hasn't contacted me. I haven't been able to reach her since last night. She's not with you?" Zach said, sounding worried.
Sebastian rubbed his forehead with his long fingers and said, "Looks like she's really in some deep trouble."
Zach glanced at his watch and hurried back to his office. "When did you lose contact with her? Any signs?"
For once, Sebastian didn't snap at Zach's question, knowing he genuinely cared about Brooklyn. "More than two hours ago."
Zach told his assistant to cancel all surgeries and meetings, ditched his lab coat, and rushed out. "Let's split up and check everywhere she might go! Also, ask everyone she knows."
Sebastian grabbed his car keys and got into his car almost at the same time as Zach, saying, "No point checking her usual spots. If she's dodging us, she won't go anywhere we know."
Zach nodded. "Makes sense. But, Sebastian, what did you do to her? Why'd she suddenly vanish? Did you..."
"Zach, you're crossing a line. Just 'cause I told you doesn't mean you can grill me."
Zach angrily slammed the steering wheel and shouted, "She better be safe, or I won't let you off!"
"Save your threats for when she’s back!" Sebastian snapped. Then, a thought hit him. 'Damn it! When I gave Brooklyn that watch, I should've told her it has a tracker. In an emergency, I can activate it and find her anywhere.'
This was the dumbest thing Sebastian had ever done. He was worried Brooklyn would think he was trying to spy on her.
In fact, he had considered it.
So, Sebastian kept quiet about it.
'Brooklyn, you're so smart. Please be smart enough to figure out the watch's secret this time!' he thought.
"Sebastian, Kelly's phone is also unreachable. It seems her disappearance is connected to Brooklyn's. Caleb said Kelly left home last night and never came back. Brooklyn called him, and then she vanished." Zach said.
"Kelly?"
Sebastian quickly pieced together their relationship and the timing of their disappearances. A thought struck him. 'It seems Kelly is the bait, and the real target is Brooklyn!'
"Zach, listen. Brooklyn was likely kidnapped, along with Kelly. But the kidnappers haven't made any demands, so it's not for money." Sebastian said calmly.
"It's to kill!" Zach said.
"Exactly, to kill." Sebastian agreed.
