Chapter 38 Am I a Father?

Brooklyn's fists tightened, her voice trapped in her throat.

"Darling, what's the matter? Speak to me!"

With a flick of her wrist, Brooklyn silenced the television. "I've seen it," she said.

Kelly swallowed hard before replying, "Darling, Sebastian is not worth your time. Divorce him. He's not treating you as his wife should be treated. And now, he's gotten that woman, Megan, pregnant. Damn him!"

A hollow laugh escaped Brooklyn's lips. "I will divorce him. But Megan has taken it upon herself to announce her pregnancy to the media, thus humiliating me. If she seeks to embarrass me, then she should be prepared to face the same. She should brace herself for the humiliation I'll serve her."

Brooklyn's teeth gritted together as she thought, "Megan, we've been fighting over the same man for three years. Aren't you exhausted? I know I am."

"My dear, you're remarkable. I just returned to the country today, and there's a party in my honor tonight. Would you be so kind as to attend?"

Despite Brooklyn's fierce determination, Kelly knew her friend was hurting. A night out might be just what she needed.

"Of course, I'll attend your party."

"Fantastic! Remember to dress to impress. There will be a multitude of attractive men and women there tonight. I guarantee you'll meet someone you like. Leave that scoundrel Sebastian to Megan."

Brooklyn's lips pursed as she asked, "Do I need to dress up?"

"You're right. Dr. Mitchell, you're beautiful even without makeup. You look captivating in a white coat. See you tonight!"

After ending the call, Brooklyn ascended the stairs to rummage through her closet until she found an outfit that satisfied her.

"Sebastian, congratulations on becoming a father. From now on, we have no ties," she thought to herself.

Meanwhile, in Brian's study at Kingsley Villa, Brian flung a newspaper at Sebastian, his face flushed with anger. "Explain this."

Sebastian glanced down at the newspaper that had landed on the floor. The front page was dominated by a large photo of him embracing Megan.

"Things happened too suddenly. I haven't had time to investigate," Sebastian replied, his eyes narrowing.

Brian, a master strategist, shot Sebastian a scornful, icy look. "If the reporters discover you're already married, this will be seen as adultery! Can you handle the consequences?"

As Brian continued his tirade, Jennifer felt a sense of unease. She ascended the stairs to the study. Upon entering, she saw Brian's anger and gently but firmly interjected, "I believe Sebastian is not at fault. He and Brooklyn have been married for three years, and she hasn't been able to bear him a child. Megan is a lovely woman. If she can give Sebastian a child, it's a blessing. Besides, Megan is beautiful and sensible, and she comes from a good family. She's the most suitable to be Sebastian's wife."

Brian snorted, "What do you know? Stop spouting nonsense."

Jennifer remained calm, picking up the newspaper to examine the picture of Sebastian and Megan. She thought they looked quite harmonious together.

"I may not understand many things, but I know whose genes Sebastian inherited to make such a decision," Jennifer casually remarked, causing Brian's face to redden. "Don't bring this up again!"

Jennifer coldly retorted, "Sebastian, now that Megan is carrying your child, you need to step up and provide the child with a complete family."

Sebastian shot Jennifer a cold, disdainful look. "Responsibility? Mother, how exactly do you suggest I take responsibility?"

"Marry her. Make her a part of the Kingsley family. I won't allow your child to be born out of wedlock. As for Brooklyn, she has no place in this family; she only infuriates me."

Sebastian bit his tongue to suppress his anger. "That's not possible."

In a fit of rage, Brian swept the documents on his desk onto the floor. "Clean up your own mess. If this scandal affects the MBK Group's stocks, I won't let you off lightly."

Upon hearing Brian mention the MBK Group, Jennifer quickly interjected, "Sebastian, why are you still standing here? Find a solution to this."

Sebastian glanced at Brian and retorted, "Dad, you brought Quinn back to the country just to remind me of this, didn't you?"

"Enough. Get out!" Jennifer, fearing a heated argument between Sebastian and Brian, ushered Sebastian out of the room.

As Sebastian descended the stairs, he noticed Quinn standing in the living room. He must have overheard their conversation.

Quinn looked up at Sebastian, shrugged, and said, "Sebastian, I didn't return to fight for the family's assets."

Sebastian grabbed his car keys and headed for the door. "Quinn, you're after my woman, aren't you?"

Quinn froze at Sebastian's icy tone. "Sebastian, it's not like that..."

"There's no need for explanations. Show me."
