Chapter 606 My Husband Is Away, I'm Just Worried

Brooklyn couldn't help but appreciate the impact of her last candid remark. She pressed her lips together to stifle a smile and teased, "Honey, your testimony is enough. I don't need anything else. I gotta drive now, so I'll hang up."

Sebastian nodded and glanced out the window. The weather in Aqua Vista City had been gloomy for several days.

"Drive safe."

"I will. You get back to your meeting."

They both hung up. Brooklyn planned to pack her things at home in the morning and catch a flight at noon. She could go straight to Sebastian's hotel when she arrived.

As for the family dinner that night, Brooklyn tapped her fingers on the steering wheel. There would likely be many female guests at the party. And what had she just heard?

Miguel's family dinner. Miguel was Marc's father, Susie's father-in-law, and Dione's husband.

Should she meet him? And see how her dear sister was faring in the Jordan family?

Susie had given Marc a son, who must be around two years old by now.

Dione's son was about the same age. The Jordan family must be quite lively.

Without thinking further, Brooklyn put on her Bluetooth headset, dialed a number, and started the car.

As she drove out of the underground garage, the call connected.

Dario, upon receiving Brooklyn's call, couldn't help but be cautious. He spoke softly, "Mrs. Kingsley, what can I do for you?"

Hearing the tension in his voice, Brooklyn chuckled, "What are you afraid of? I can't do anything to you over the phone. I just spoke with Sebastian. He's attending the Jordan family's dinner tomorrow night. What's it like?"

Dario wiped his forehead with a tissue. "Well, Miguel is much more cautious than Marc. If it's a family dinner, the guests are likely close relatives or important business partners. Miguel is a top figure in Aqua Vista City, so his dinners are significant events, attended by the city's elite."

Brooklyn got a general idea and continued, "Are there any special requirements to attend the dinner?"

"Anyone invited by the Jordan family can attend. Otherwise, it's nearly impossible to get in. Since Marc's incident, his father has been even more careful."

Brooklyn nodded. "Got it."

Dario, still uneasy, asked, "Mrs. Kingsley, why are you asking? Is something wrong?"

Brooklyn casually replied, "Nothing much. I'm just concerned about my husband being out. You understand."

Dario fell silent. Did he understand? Was it what he thought?

Miguel, a man in his sixties or seventies, was quite a character. Not only did he have another child with Dione, but he also managed to hold the Jordan family together after Marc's imprisonment.

Brooklyn didn't dwell on it and called Bianca.

Bianca was initially shocked to hear Brooklyn was attending the Jordan family's dinner, but she quickly composed herself.

"I heard from Marc that the Jordan Villa is on the outskirts of Aqua Vista City and hard to find. Unless invited, few people can get in. I'll send you the address. You can try it, but I can't guarantee it's correct."

"Alright, send me the address. Sebastian is attending the dinner tomorrow night. It would be a shame to miss such a lively party." Brooklyn's eyes sparkled, and a mysterious smile played on her lips.

Bianca cautioned, "You can go, but be careful. It's Susie's territory, and you have issues with Dione. If they team up, you might be at a disadvantage."

Brooklyn found it convenient. "Dealing with one or two people is the same. It saves me the trouble of going back and forth. Send me the address and book my flight for tomorrow at noon."

"Okay, I'll send you the flight details and the address. Be careful."

"Don't worry. With Sebastian there, nothing will happen."

Brooklyn's call hadn't ended when Quinn's call came in. "I'll take this call. You get home early."

Switching to Quinn's number, Brooklyn was already on the main road back to the villa. "Quinn, what's up?"

Quinn's car was parked outside his office. He had just finished his last meeting and planned to visit Brooklyn at the hospital, but called to confirm first.

"Brooklyn, are you at the hospital? I need to talk to you."  Quinn took a deep breath. He didn't want misunderstandings about the MBK presidency to deepen.

"I'm off work and heading home. What's up? Tell me over the phone."

Quinn bit his lip, his hand on the steering wheel, unsure of his next move. "I'll come to your place."

Brooklyn hesitated. "So urgent? Alright, I'll wait for you at home."

He couldn't keep his worries hidden any longer. It was time to clear things up and ease Brooklyn's concerns.

Brooklyn arrived home, changed into slippers, and saw that dinner was ready.

"Mrs. Kingsley, would you like to have dinner now?"

Brooklyn checked the time. With Quinn's driving speed, he should arrive soon. "No rush. I'll wait for Quinn and eat together."

"Okay."

Quinn's car sped down the main road. Just then, his phone rang.

It was an unfamiliar overseas number, a long string of digits.

Thinking it might be a company executive, Quinn slowed down and put on his Bluetooth headset. But as soon as he heard the voice, he was stunned.

"Are you okay?" The voice from across the ocean sounded like it had traveled through countless waves, suddenly and unexpectedly reaching his ears.

Quinn's hand trembled, and his phone fell heavily to the floor.

Brooklyn waited at home for over an hour, but Quinn didn't show up. When she called, it went straight to voicemail.

"Hello, I'm not available to take your call right now."

Was he called back to work by Brian?

Brooklyn put down her phone and had a simple dinner. Thinking about reuniting with Sebastian tomorrow, she felt a surge of motivation. Life was better with something to look forward to.

The next day, Aucester was sunny again. The warm weather was nearing the end of summer, with cool evenings and pleasant days.

After sleeping in a bit, Brooklyn packed some clothes. Opening the wardrobe, she saw Sebastian's neatly arranged white shirts and suits, organized by color.

Brooklyn remembered a particular black suit that looked especially good on him, paired with a royal blue tie and platinum cufflinks. Imagining the scene made her smile.

Sebastian rarely brought clothes on business trips and seldom wore the same outfit twice. But she wanted to see him in that suit again.

Before packing her clothes, Brooklyn carefully folded the suit and placed it in her suitcase. Then she started packing her own clothes.

Attending the Jordan family's dinner required a proper outfit.

"Mr. Lawson, revise the project plan and submit it by Monday. Also, gather information on Aqua Vista City's major building material suppliers and submit it by Monday as well."

The managers from the marketing and procurement departments nodded respectfully, relieved to have their tasks assigned.

Working overtime on a Saturday with a workaholic boss, where could they complain?

Sebastian opened the next file and frowned. "Why is there still news like this? What is the PR department doing?"

The PR manager, sweating, glanced at the file and turned pale. "It's those reckless journalists. I'll handle it immediately!"

The newspaper falsely reported that Sebastian spent the night at a hotel with Catherine. It was a serious offense.

Sebastian's long fingers tapped the file, the sound echoing in the meeting room, making everyone tense.

"Before the ribbon-cutting ceremony, I want everything perfect, both the company's projects and my personal life. Understood?"

Everyone nodded, sweating. "Yes, Mr. Kingsley."

"How can I trust you like this?"

Everyone kept silent.

After the meeting, Sebastian rubbed his temples, exhausted. He had been in back-to-back meetings since returning from the construction site, and it was already six o'clock.

As he left the MBK branch, a red Mercedes sports car was parked outside. Catherine stepped out as he approached.

"Sebastian!" Catherine looked at him, standing elegantly on the steps, exuding an untouchable aura. Even from a distance, she felt she might offend his dignity.

Sebastian's handsome brows furrowed slightly. "Ms. Cooper."

Catherine's face flushed with excitement. She walked gracefully towards him. "I came to pick you up. Let's go to the Jordan Villa together. We can choose some outfits first."

Sebastian casually blocked the distance between them. "I drove. You lead the way."

"Ride with me. Here's the key." She dangled the car key, adorned with a limited-edition Chanel plush charm.

Sebastian's gaze showed impatience. "Ms. Cooper, I'm a man."

Catherine awkwardly retracted her hand. "Sorry, I forgot. Then... you drive, and I'll ride with you."

Sebastian glanced at Bill. "Mr. Lawson, isn't there a conference call at six-thirty?"

Bill was confused. What conference call?

"Uh, yes! I almost forgot. We'll have to do it in the car."

Sebastian smiled faintly. "I have a call to take in the car. It might not be convenient."

"Then I'll drive ahead, and we'll meet at the clothing store."

Sebastian nodded. After Catherine left, he asked, "Are the clothes ready?"

"Yes, they're in the car."

"Good. We'll go straight to the Jordan Villa."

Bill was puzzled. "Aren't you going with Ms. Cooper?"

Sebastian adjusted his tie. "When did I say that?"

Did he... not say that?
