Chapter 491 When Men Are Acting Bad, They Can Be Very Bad

Three days later, in the CEO's office at MBK, a newspaper lay open in front of Sebastian, the black-and-white print clear and unmistakable. There was a photo of Megan and Simon, looking very close, taken in a hospital room. Megan was holding Simon's hand, both of them smiling happily at the camera.

"Megan clears up rumors, personally confirms upcoming marriage to Simon."

The bold, black headline seemed like it could leap off the page, but to Sebastian, it was nothing more than a source of contempt, eliciting a cold, disdainful laugh.

His smile was long but cold. It gradually faded from his eyes and brow, turning into a sharp, cutting expression.

Tapping his fingers on the mahogany desk, Sebastian slowly raised an eyebrow, locking eyes with Dario, who stood across from him, wearing a similar smile.

Indeed, after spending so much time with Sebastian, Dario had almost perfectly mimicked his smile.

"Megan fell for it," said the elegant and proud man in a cool, water-like voice, carrying his unique cold arrogance.

Dario bowed his head. "Boss, you were right. Megan has taken the bait. So, should we proceed to reap the benefits?"

Sebastian's long, attractive fingers, adorned with a diamond-studded wedding ring, sparkled as he tapped the desk. "Megan marrying Simon means she's determined to bind them together. Her goal is clearly to ally with the Scott family against me. Without me lifting a finger, Megan will soon launch her attack on me. Then, we'll return the favor."

Dario nodded in understanding, "Yes, boss! Let's let Megan and Simon enjoy their illusion for a few days. Then we'll catch them off guard. This show will be quite entertaining."

Sebastian withdrew his hand and pulled out a file to read. "The Turner Group now has Brooklyn's shares. Any decision made must involve Brooklyn. To take action, we need to isolate Brooklyn from the board. Brooklyn's shares in the Turner Group are a forecast of Megan's actions. No rush."

His calm and confident demeanor made Dario genuinely admire him.

On the surface, Megan and Simon seemed to be mounting a strong offensive, but in reality, all their actions were under Sebastian's control. Their efforts were just a joke to him.

Dario thought to himself that his boss was truly impressive!

"By the way, how's the shipment to Averlake?" Sebastian asked, seeing a document from the Mitchell Group, which reminded him of the matter. He had entrusted it to Brandon and hadn't intervened much, but three days had passed, and things should be settled by now.

Dario replied, "It's been received. The final payment was made immediately after the goods arrived. The quality of the first batch was excellent, and they were very satisfied, deciding to order another batch right away."

"Good," Sebastian responded with a light laugh. "It seems my cousin's factory is well-built. Since the workers are already accustomed to it, there's no need to rebuild the factory for the Mitchell Group. From now on, it will be permanently used by the Mitchell Group."

Dario was shocked, "But boss, didn't you say it was borrowed from Mr. Donny Kingsley? Shouldn't it be returned?"

Sebastian curled his lips into a cold smile, his blue eyes icy. "Of course, it's borrowed. But I never specified how long."

Dario swallowed, "I understand. I'll handle the paperwork right away."

"Do it."

Dario silently admired his boss's shrewdness.

As Dario left the room, Sebastian's phone rang.

Glancing at the screen, Sebastian let it vibrate for several seconds before leisurely answering.

"Mr. Sebastian Kingsley, you finally answered. Please don't hang up. I have something to discuss with you. Please hear me out."

On the other end was James, his voice urgent and anxious.

Sebastian chuckled lightly, switching the phone to his left hand. "Mr. Rivera, what can I do for you?"

James was standing outside the detention center, having been repeatedly denied visits with Piper. No matter the reason or the influence he tried to exert, the response was always the same: "No visits allowed until the investigation is complete, except for lawyers."

But without strong backing, who would dare take on this case?

"Mr. Sebastian Kingsley, if I've ever offended you or made you unhappy, I apologize. Please, spare my sister Piper. Mr. Sebastian Kingsley..."

Sebastian's breath was cold, his disdain, indifference, and sarcasm all conveyed in a single scoff. "Mr. Rivera, are you joking? What does your sister's situation have to do with me? How did this become my problem?"

James rubbed his forehead, gritting his teeth. There was no point in hiding the truth any longer. "Sebastian, Piper orchestrated the incident with your wife falling off the cliff. She also arranged for you to be misdiagnosed with AIDS. But that's all in the past. Your wife is safe now. Can you..."

"No."

Sebastian's deep, dark words extinguished all of James's hopes, leaving no room for negotiation.

"James, my wife is safe? Her face is ruined, her memory lost. How do you plan to settle that? She was disgraced and nearly died abroad because of your sister. How do you plan to settle that? And being separated from my wife for three years, how do you plan to settle that?"

James was left speechless, cursing Piper's foolishness.

"Sebastian, I'll do anything to make amends. Just spare Piper."

Despite knowing Piper deserved punishment, she was his only sibling, his only family.

James couldn't just stand by and do nothing.

Sebastian pressed his fingers to his brow. "James, I've heard she's facing a twenty-year sentence..."

"Sebastian!"

James was truly desperate. Twenty years! Piper would be over fifty by the time she got out. It was practically a death sentence.

"I might be able to reduce her sentence by a few years. How much depends on your performance."

"Anything I can do, I will. Just tell me."

Sebastian looked at the calendar on his desk, flipping to the 20th. "Your cousin Megan is getting married, right?"

"I... I know." James was sweating, sensing something ominous.

"I want to send them a wedding gift and need your help."

"Okay!"

"Good. In three hours, I'll arrange for you to see your sister. But if I hear anything inappropriate, you know..."

"Don't worry, I won't!"

Sebastian chuckled again. "James, this is a matter between us men. It's best to keep my wife out of it."

James's cold sweat intensified. "I understand."

Finally, the call ended. James leaned against the wall, unable to move for a long time. Sebastian was truly a devil of a man.

A devil!

"Dr. Mitchell, hurry! There's an emergency! A worker fell at a construction site, and a steel rod has pierced his heart. Major damage!"

"Take me there!"

Brooklyn had just finished her rounds when she was pulled to the emergency room, running swiftly down the narrow hallway. Her white coat billowed dramatically as she moved.

"Patient's blood pressure and pulse!"

"45 over 75, still dropping. The patient has lost a lot of blood and is in a deep coma."

"Why wasn't surgery started immediately?"

The nurse hesitated, "Dr. Mitchell, the surgery is very complex, and the patient can't afford it."

Brooklyn's eyes flashed with determination. "Because of that?"

The nurse bit her lip, "Yes, the hospital requires payment for such surgeries. The cost is at least $60,000, and the patient can't pay. There's no family here, only coworkers."

Brooklyn rubbed her forehead. "Notify the patient's family to come to the hospital and sign the consent form."

"They've been notified and are on their way."

"Prepare the operating room! Anesthesiologist, surgical instruments, all to OR 1. Where's Dr. Carter?"

"Dr. Carter is in surgery, a heart repair that will take at least five hours."

Damn!

Brooklyn reached the emergency room, where the patient lay covered in blood, with an oxygen mask stained with blood on his face.

A steel rod had pierced his heart, standing out grotesquely, blood seeping down his work clothes.

"To the OR! We can't wait for the family. Start the surgery now!"

"Yes!"

Arabella and Jake followed her into the OR, all three donning surgical gowns. Arabella asked nervously, "Dr. Mitchell, this patient might not survive the surgery. The CT shows the rod has damaged two-thirds of the heart. Removing it could be fatal. Without family consent, are you sure you want to take this risk?"

Brooklyn's eyes were resolute, her hands steady. "If we don't remove it, he'll die for sure."

Jake nodded, "I agree with Dr. Mitchell. Surgery might give him a chance, but without it, he's dead."

Arabella bit her lip again, "Dr. Mitchell, without family consent, whether the surgery succeeds or fails, they can sue. Are you..."

"I'll take responsibility."

Jake's concern was different, given Brooklyn's status. "Dr. Mitchell, this surgery will take at least ten hours. Your hand..."

This hit Brooklyn's sore spot.

"Have Dr. Carter assist me when his surgery is done."

"Okay."

Brooklyn extended her hand, "Scalpel..."

"Monitor the vitals closely. Once the chest is opened, Dr. Davis, you'll remove the rod. Be quick and stop the bleeding immediately."

Brooklyn took a deep breath. "Everyone, stay focused. Blood might spray, but don't let it scare you. Understood?"

"Understood!" they replied in unison.

"Let's begin!"
