Chapter 422 Learning that Brooklyn was Framed Back Then

"It seems you've guessed it was me. Impressive." Brandon laughed.

Sebastian smirked and said, "Alright, enough with the small talk. Did you find out?"

Brandon pouted, "Can you be a bit more considerate? Every time you contact me, it's to give me task. When will there be some good news? I flew all the way back from Averlake, lurking day and night. It's exhausting."

"Stop with the nonsense and get to the point. " Sebastian put down the file, leaned back in his chair, and waited leisurely for Brandon's answer.

Judging by his demeanor, he probably had a plan.

Brandon took a sip of the coffee Sebastian had drunk from, "Damn! So bitter, are you drinking herbal medicine?"

He stuck out his tongue and continued to complain, "I really admire myself more and more. I managed to investigate even the smallest details. But working as a bartender these past few days was so damn frustrating! You better compensate me later!"

"Just say it!"

Brandon was reliable, but he had a bad habit of showing off once he achieved something.

"Alright, you would never have guessed that this matter is actually related to your sister-in-law."

Sebastian's eyes narrowed sharply, "You mean, Susie?"

Brandon nodded, "That's right. Susie had feelings for you, You're something else, always surrounded by women... Anyway, after you married Brooklyn, Susie held a grudge. She invited Brooklyn out for drinks and spiked her drink. Brooklyn passed out at the bar after drinking the drugged alcohol. I don't know what exactly was in the drink, but your wife was definitely framed."

Sebastian suddenly clenched his fists, a surge of anger ready to explode!

"Damn it!"

He shot up, unable to contain his fury. He slammed his raised fist onto the table with a loud bang, his knuckles bleeding crimson!

So that's how it was!

He had misunderstood her for so many years because of this! He was worse than a beast!

Seeing Sebastian's reaction, Brandon said, "Calm down, it's been so many years, and Brooklyn has lost all her memories. Maybe we could let it go..."

"No way! Brooklyn has suffered too much. I won't stand by and do nothing."

Brandon sighed lightly, rubbing his forehead, "But now Susie is Marc Jordan's wife. Marc may not be in the top four in Aucester, but he's a big shot in Aqua Vista City. If you directly target his wife..."

Sebastian's eyes were as sharp as blades, looking in a certain direction, filled with anger, pain, regret, and self-blame, "I don't care who he is. Anyone who hurts my wife must pay the price!"

Seeing his determination, Brandon cautiously asked, "What do you plan to do? Do you need to go to Aqua Vista City?"

Sebastian controlled his rationality, not letting anger drive him. He took a deep breath and said, "Keep an eye on Marc."

"Got it!"

Aucester Hospital.

"Dr. Carter, meeting time!"

Zach, who was studying a case, heard the nurse call from outside the door. He snapped out of his thoughts and smiled at the nurse, "Alright, thank you."

The nurse smiled with her eyes, "Dr. Carter, you're always so polite. It makes us feel embarrassed."

Zach put down the case file, slid his chair back, and stood up. His clean white coat looked as elegant as ever on him, "It's my duty."

Walking out of the office, Zach headed to the elevator. When the doors opened, he found himself face-to-face with the people inside. He nodded slightly, "Dr. Rivera."

Piper awkwardly took half a step back, "Dr. Carter, good morning."

By this time, there were already several doctors from other departments in the elevator, going to attend a meeting. As more people got on from the first floor, Zach walked in with long strides and turned to face the elevator doors, with Piper standing right behind him.

Since they parted ways at the square that day, Zach seemed to be deliberately avoiding Piper, and they hadn't run into each other even once. Piper watched Zach's back, feeling as if he was a world away from her.

Ethan suddenly joked, "Dr. Carter, even though you've been at our hospital for the shortest time, your reputation is huge. All the young nurses see you as a heartthrob, and quite a few female doctors have their eyes on you too. Dr. Carter, we have few male doctors here, so you better watch out for these women!"

Zach stood straight, his hands naturally hanging by his sides, and smiled, "Dr. Moore, you're exaggerating. Our hospital has plenty of young talents. I'm really past my prime."

"Oh! Dr. Carter, you're being modest, aren't you? if you don't believe me. Ask Dr. Rivera if she thinks Dr. Carter is the most handsome man in our hospital."

Such meaningless jokes were common among doctors, but Piper suddenly felt her heart skip a beat. She looked up at Zach's tall back and, hiding her feelings, smiled, "Zach's charm isn't just about looks. It's also his medical skills and character. Just talking about looks doesn't do him justice."

"Did you hear that? In Aucester Hospital, anyone who gets praised by the discerning Dr. Rivera is no ordinary person!"

As they chatted, the elevator arrived. Zach, at the front, was the first to step out, followed by a large group heading to the conference room. Along the way, Piper trailed closely behind Zach, her admiration for him evident to everyone.

For a moment, everyone exchanged glances, silently conveying their curiosity.

The lengthy meeting was dull, but George's announcement perked everyone up.

"I have good news for everyone: Scarlett is back from Averlake! However, she needs some days to adjust, and by Monday, she'll be back at the hospital."

The mention of Scarlett's return instantly electrified the drowsy conference room. Not only were the male doctors excited, but many female doctors also clapped and cheered.

"That's great! With Scarlett back, the whole cardiac project will get a huge boost!"

"Not to mention, Scarlett's looks are quite refreshing!"

"Yeah, every time I watch Dr. Taylor's surgery videos, I get so pumped up. I really regret not going into surgery! I can't wait!"

Zach's downcast eyes suddenly lifted, and a smile spread across his clean, gentle face, as if touched by sunlight, bringing him back to the bright spring days of April. Despite his calm demeanor, he couldn't hide the joy in his eyes.

He hadn't expected Scarlett to return so soon!

Seeing Zach's expression, Piper clenched her fist tightly under the table, 'Brooklyn, you bitch!'"Dr. Clark, Dr. Taylor is only in charge of the cardiac project. Once it's over, she'll still have to leave, right? And the termination of this project ultimately depends on the headquarters' leadership," a doctor pointed out, somewhat disappointed.

Piper's lips curled slightly, "Scarlett was never a doctor at Aucester Hospital. She naturally wouldn't deign to stay here."

Zach's eyes darkened.

George waved his hand, "Everyone, quiet down. I have another announcement. Last time, Dr. Taylor successfully completed the country's first special mitral valve replacement surgery. So, when Dr. Taylor returns, you all can celebrate together. All expenses will be covered by the hospital."

"That's awesome!"

The meeting ended on a high note, with the doctors discussing as they left.

George said, "Dr. Carter, please stay."

Zach nodded, "What can I do for you, Dr. Clark?"

As the crowd dispersed, Piper stood outside, looking through the glass at George and Zach talking, biting her lip.

"Scarlett! You sure know how to surprise!" Quinn had driven like a madman for half an hour. As soon as he arrived at the villa, he burst in, shouting.

"Didn't you ask me to come back?" Scarlett smiled, watching Quinn's excitement. She immediately thought of the time Quinn confessed to her. Surprisingly, he didn't seem to have any psychological shadow from it.

Quinn, looking dashing and carefree, slouched on the sofa, grabbed an apple, and took a big bite. With his mouth full, he mumbled, "Is my help so effective?"

Seeing him eat, Scarlett shook her head and smiled, "How dare you skip work at this hour? The second heir of the Kingsley family slacking off at his own family's company? Be careful, or all the employees might go on strike."

"It's fine, Scarlett. Shall we have another go? Last time wasn't satisfying enough."

Scarlett put down her book and said, "Quinn, how do you want to compete today?"

Quinn flicked his wrist, and the half-eaten apple landed perfectly in the trash can. "Let's make it official today. How about a lap at the racetrack?"

Scarlett shrugged, "I'm up for anything. You pick the place and set the rules."

Quinn raised an eyebrow, looking incredulous, "So generous, Scarlett. You're making me a bit nervous."

"Are you scared?"

"Not at all! Let's go!"

However, in the quiet, enclosed office, the atmosphere was oppressive and stifling, almost palpable with a sense of foreboding and death.

"I won't let Brooklyn off easily. She made me lose everything, and I'll make her pay."

"Megan, are you sure about this? If you leave any traces, you'll definitely be..."

"Piper, I've thought it through; I can't bear this insult! Don't worry, I've got the details. Brooklyn and Quinn are going to the racetrack this afternoon. With just a little tampering, I can make sure she and her car are smashed to pieces."

Piper squinted, "No, tampering at the racetrack can easily be traced back to you. Someone like Sebastian won't let it go."

"Piper, what do you suggest?" Megan only wanted Brooklyn dead, but she knew Piper was always more meticulous and thorough.

"You can hire someone to race against Brooklyn on the road. But remember, you're not trying to kill her, just to compete. Even if Brooklyn accidentally dies, it won't be traced back to you."

A slow smile spread across Megan's lips, "Piper, you're definitely smarter than me!"
