Chapter 129 Tonight, I'm Sleeping Here
A minute passed in anxious anticipation, and Brooklyn was stunned—no one answered the phone.
Did Sebastian not hear it? Was he busy? In a meeting? Out?
It was almost noon; Sebastian had better not change his mind at the last minute!
Brooklyn dialed again, and just like before, she was informed that no one was available to take her call.
Her current mood had shifted from the awkwardness of asking for a favor to the anxiety of being ignored.
If Sebastian really changed his mind, she would be completely out of options.
Finally, on the third attempt, the call connected!
"Sebastian! Please help the Mitchell Group!" As soon as the call connected, Brooklyn couldn't wait to shout into the phone. This time, she really put aside her pride.
Sebastian, however, remained calm and unhurried, his voice low and somewhat teasing, "Have you thought about what terms you're willing to offer in exchange?"
Brooklyn reached out and plucked a blooming white camellia from the balcony. "Nothing specific, as long as you help the Mitchell Group, whatever you want, as long as I have it, you can have it."
Good, the domineering lion was finally willing to retract its claws. It seemed he could ensure that Mitchell Group continued to operate, even if just barely.
Sebastian let out a cold laugh, his voice an invisible temptation, "It seems you have a clear understanding of your capabilities. You really don't have anything worthwhile to offer in exchange. Now, think about what you've done; really think about it. Where did you get the courage and audacity?"
Brooklyn was completely bewildered. "Sebastian now is not the time to bring up old grievances. It's almost noon. Look at the time."
"I didn't think you were this anxious since you're only calling me now. Brooklyn, what were you doing earlier?"
Sebastian was now quite impressed with Brooklyn's intelligence. Did she really think that as long as she asked for his help before noon, he would have enough time to intervene? Did she think he could resolve such a big issue with just a word?
Sebastian thought, 'Brooklyn, have you lost your marbles staying in the hospital?'
"I'm not only relying on you for help," Brooklyn said.
"In that case, it seems I don't need to get involved," Sebastian replied simply.
The faint sounds on the other end suggested that Sebastian was about to hang up.
"Wait! I mean, I believe you have a way, Sebastian. As long as the Mitchell Group gets through this crisis, I'll do whatever you want." She gritted her teeth and swore!
Sebastian frowned.
She wouldn't ask for his help nicely earlier, and that had made him angry. But now, her humble, pleading tone made him even angrier!
"Very well, it seems you finally understand the situation. I will help the Mitchell Group get through this crisis, but remember what you just said. If you defy me again, I can easily destroy it."
Brooklyn gripped her phone tightly, the device heating up in her hand. "You have my word!"
By around two in the afternoon, Brooklyn saw the news. What had originally been a malicious case of false accounting and tax evasion had been reclassified as a calculation error due to staff negligence. The required taxes had been fully paid, and the Mitchell Group's crisis was completely resolved.
Brooklyn collapsed onto the sofa, clutching her chest and gasping for breath. Just what kind of powerful figure was Sebastian?
A major judicial case that had alarmed so many departments was resolved by him with such ease.
How vast was the power behind him?
But from now on, Brooklyn's days would be difficult.
The entire afternoon, she anxiously awaited Sebastian's return. She both hoped he would come back and dreaded it.
After hours of internal conflict, the black Bentley finally returned to the villa.
The servants went to greet him, and according to the Kingsley family etiquette, Brooklyn also had to go out to welcome him. Standing at the door, she saw the imposing figure of Sebastian stepping out of the car, striding towards her with a brisk pace. In the sunset, his handsome face was captivating.
"Mr. Kingsley."
"Good evening, Mr. Kingsley."
The servants all bowed and greeted him, but when Sebastian walked up to Brooklyn, she struggled to say a word.
Sebastian, impatient, quickened his already brisk pace. He knew very well that Brooklyn's inherent pride was unchangeable.
During dinner, they didn't exchange a single word. He didn't even bring up any demands, which puzzled her.
After dinner, Sebastian went to the study to read while Brooklyn, attended by the servants, took a bath and changed into her pajamas before returning to the bedroom.
He was still in the study, with no sign of movement.
Could it be that today would just pass like this? Had he forgotten because he was busy?
Clearly, she was being too naive.
Brooklyn sat on the bed, spreading out medical books to find material for her thesis. After a while, a servant came in carrying her neatly folded nightgown.
The servant silently placed her nightgown on the sofa.
What was going on?
A few minutes later, Mr. Kingsley walked into the bedroom and began undressing right in front of Brooklyn.
"Sebastian, what are you doing?" Brooklyn asked in shock.
Sebastian looked at her calmly. "Can't you tell?"
"I can tell, that's why I'm asking. I sleep here, you sleep downstairs. Why are you undressing here?" Brooklyn asked again, puzzled.
Sebastian slowly unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his firm chest, then swiftly tossed the white shirt aside. "That was before today. Starting tonight, I'm sleeping here."
Brooklyn warily climbed off the bed. "So you mean I should sleep downstairs? Is that it?"
With that, Brooklyn was about to make a run for it, but his deep, sexy voice stopped her. "Stay."
Brooklyn bit her lip, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. "Mr. Kingsley, sleeping in separate rooms is a good habit. We should maintain it."
Sebastian sneered, "Turn around and look at me."
He was now down to just his boxer briefs, his long legs well-defined, his abdominal muscles subtly visible, barefoot, exuding raw male hormones.
Brooklyn looked him up and down. "What does this mean?"
"Isn't it obvious? I want you to see clearly who the man sharing your bed tonight is!"
