Chapter 315 Threat from Brian
Except for Sebastian, everyone else was already knee-deep in a heated argument.
Kelly had been banned by her parents from using her phone and watching TV, so she didn't find out about the news until that evening.
"Brooklyn would never do something like that! Mom, Dad, I have to help her! Brooklyn's all alone now, and with Sebastian in trouble, there's no one else but me!" Kelly yanked out her IV needle, ready to jump out of bed, but Caleb pinned her down. "You stay put! Your health is the priority. Brooklyn's the hostess of the Kingsley family, and it's the Turner family accusing her. What can you do? Just make things worse!"
"Even if I make things worse, I have to go! Brooklyn has no one, and those two useless Mitchells would rather see her dead. I'm her only friend. If I don't go, she's done for," Kelly insisted.
Kelly's mom held her hand and spoke earnestly, "Kelly, we can't get involved. The Kingsley and Turner families hold the power of life or death over the Wilsons. Our family's fate hangs on a single word from them."
Kelly was stubborn. "Dad, Mom, Brooklyn is my best friend! I can't just sit here and do nothing!"
Meanwhile, over at MBK International Building...
Without telling Sebastian, Dario got the company's PR team to stop the news from spreading, negotiating with major media outlets to take down the stories ASAP.
The Kingsley family was a juicy target; just a piece of it was enough to satisfy the media and internet companies, but no one dared to really challenge MBK Group. The news frenzy lasted only a few hours before it was all scrubbed from the internet.
After making sure no keywords related to Brooklyn and Megan could be found online, Dario rushed to the hospital.
As expected, the confidentiality in the isolated ward was top-notch, and Sebastian was still completely in the dark.
"Where's Brooklyn? Where is she?" His first question, as expected, was about Brooklyn.
"Mrs. Kingsley got caught in the rain and has a fever. She's resting. Once she gets better, she'll come see you right away. Don't worry, Mr. Kingsley, Mrs. Kingsley is fine," Dario said.
Sebastian's deep, intense eyes narrowed. "Dario, you know what happens if you lie to me."
Dario lowered his head. "I wouldn't dare lie to you, Mr. Kingsley. Mrs. Kingsley is really not feeling well. We were afraid you'd be upset if you saw her."
Just then, Quinn showed up. Worried that Sebastian would ask questions Dario couldn't answer, Quinn walked in with a playful grin. "Sebastian, you're so biased! You think about Brooklyn all day, but what about us who are suffering with you?"
Sebastian let out a light sigh, still looking pretty rough. Luckily, his breathing, heart rate, and pulse were all normal, and he was getting his strength back, so he had the energy to talk to Quinn. "Quinn, how many days have you skipped school? Is this how a student should act?"
Quinn, caught red-handed, chuckled, "I can catch up on classes later, but your health is super important. If I don't take good care of you, Brooklyn will have my head."
"Give me the phone." As soon as Sebastian asked for the phone, the room got tense.
Quinn and Dario exchanged glances. After Dario nodded, Quinn handed over the phone.
The phone's screen was clean, no messages from Brooklyn.
To Sebastian, without any news from Brooklyn, all other calls and messages were pointless. But when he tried calling, it said the call couldn't be connected. 'What on earth is she doing?' Sebastian wondered.
The next day, at the detention center...
"Brooklyn, someone is here to see you."
Brooklyn, who had been detained overnight, was curled up in the small room. She opened her eyes and, squinting against the harsh light, raised her hand to block it, her mouth trembling slightly. "Brian?"
Brian responded with a disdainful grunt. He didn't even want to look at Brooklyn.
A few minutes later...
"Brian, I don't get what you mean," Brooklyn said, puzzled.
"I don't need to spell it out for you. You know what this test report is, right?" Brian said.
Brooklyn was stunned. "How did you..."
"That's not important. Brooklyn, the Kingsley family won't allow a scandal like AIDS to surface. Even if you're in prison, this kind of news will blow up, so..." Brian said, pulling out a document, every word on it clear.
After reading the document, Brooklyn felt a chill run through her. "Do you want me to leave Libertya?"
Someone like Brian, with his connections, corruption, and collusion, could make someone disappear permanently without breaking a sweat. But Brooklyn never imagined he would use such methods on her.
He wanted to kick Brooklyn out of Libertya and ban her from ever returning.
Brooklyn clenched her fists, the red blood vessels on her face clearly visible. "Brian, why do you hate me so much?"
Brian, dressed in a custom-made suit, sat regally in the interrogation room. The dim light didn't diminish his nobility one bit. His well-maintained face, the imposing demeanor of a chairman, and the unique authority of a family head were all in stark contrast to Brooklyn's disheveled state.
"The Mitchell family, a lowly household, is not worthy of an alliance with the Kingsley family. You lowly creatures who have crawled up from the bottom dare to dream of attaching yourselves to the Kingsley family—this dream was doomed from the start. Brooklyn, you should know your place," Brian said with a look of disdain."
