Chapter 548 Zach Was Pushed Down by Ophelia
Sebastian and Brooklyn hopped into the car first, while Zach stayed outside the prison gates, waiting for Ophelia to wrap up her work.
Watching their car drive away, Zach took a few deep breaths, feeling a mix of emotions.
Leaning against the car door for a few minutes, Ophelia soon emerged with a folder in hand.
She was dressed in a simple, professional outfit, but her face radiated a unique feminine energy.
Seeing Zach from a distance, Ophelia waved and teased, "Hey there, handsome! Need a ride?"
Zach smiled warmly, "Not going your way."
Ophelia tilted her head, then straightened it. "How could it not be? Wherever you go, I go."
Zach chuckled and opened the car door. "Miss Montague, get in."
Ophelia raised an eyebrow, casually resting one hand on the car door.
Standing very close to Zach, she could smell the faint scent of disinfectant on him, a clean and refreshing aroma.
"Zach, you seem to have quite a history with Piper," Ophelia said, nodding towards the prison.
Zach nodded, "Yeah. You already know everything, so why ask?"
Ophelia suddenly stood on tiptoe, leaning closer to Zach with a mischievous smile, "She likes you, I can tell."
Zach felt a bit uncomfortable with her sudden closeness and instinctively stepped back. "You're a cop, your observations are sharper than most. Since you already know, let's head back."
Zach frowned slightly, not used to such direct and aggressive behavior, struggling to keep up with Ophelia's pace.
Ophelia smirked, standing on tiptoe again, her breath brushing against Zach's face, "I saw you hug her just now."
Zach furrowed his brow, his tie in Ophelia's grip, leaving him no room to escape. "Yes, I did hug her."
Zach admitted, feeling like he was being interrogated by a cop. He raised his eyebrows, sensing his passive position was not ideal.
Ophelia pouted, "Okay, I know you hugged her because she asked, but I'm not happy about it. Not happy at all."
Zach rubbed his forehead, his gentle eyes locking onto hers, "Miss Montague, there's nothing between us, and this..."
He gestured to their awkward position, clearly uncomfortable.
Ophelia didn't care about appearances, pulling Zach's tie closer, "Zach, I said, you hugged her, and I'm not happy. Don't you get it?"
Zach took a step back. "So, what do you want?"
Ophelia pressed her body against Zach's. "Zach, have you ever kissed her?"
Zach's face flushed at her direct question, his voice strained, "No."
Ophelia laughed, "What about Dr. Mitchell? You've had a crush on her for years, and traveled to Jabari together. Surely, you have stories. So, Zach, tell me, have you ever kissed Dr. Mitchell?"
Zach's expression turned serious, his brows furrowing deeply, "There's nothing between Brooklyn and me. Please don't make assumptions."
Ophelia's lips curled into a smile, her nose almost touching Zach's, "In that case, Zach, kiss me!"
Zach's body tensed, his gentle eyes widening in shock. He looked down to find Ophelia's face inches from his, their lips almost touching.
Zach broke into a sweat. "Ophelia, what are you doing?"
Ophelia switched from pulling his tie to wrapping her arms around his neck. "What do you think?"
Her bold move left Zach feeling awkward and resistant, but she was thoroughly enjoying it.
Zach, who never expected to see this shy side of himself, found it both amusing and thrilling.
Ophelia grabbed Zach's hand and placed it on her waist.
After a long moment, Ophelia finally let go.
Both of them were breathing heavily, their hearts racing.
Zach looked at her, "What does this mean?"
Ophelia, satisfied, "It means nothing. Figure it out yourself."
Her smile was bright and confident, exuding a natural charm that was hard to resist.
Zach rubbed his forehead, "Ophelia,"
"By the way, you're the first man I've kissed, so you're not losing out. And I think my technique is pretty good. You should have enjoyed it."
Zach looked up at the sky, feeling a bit dazed. He had just been kissed out of the blue.
Ophelia hopped into the front seat.
Zach remained silent.
Ophelia buckled her seatbelt, giving Zach time to process. Once he seemed to have calmed down, she looked at him, "Zach, relax. You're a man in love now!"
Zach almost put the car in reverse. "Ophelia, I don't understand. What do you want?"
Ophelia adjusted his tie, "I have a lot of things I want to do. Let's take it one step at a time."
Zach tried to regain his composure. "Ophelia, we're just partners."
"I know. Isn't this part of our partnership? Or did you think I'd let you off so easily?"
She flashed a mischievous smile, making Zach turn his attention to driving.
Brooklyn and Sebastian returned home, and Brandon called Sebastian away.
With no hospital shift, Brooklyn spread out her books to study.
Around three in the afternoon, her phone rang.
"Hey, you're not on duty today, right? I checked."
Kelly's voice was as excited as if she'd won the lottery.
Brooklyn, wearing her glasses and holding a medical book, smiled, "Since you already checked, why ask? What's up?"
Kelly laughed, "Well, do you have time tonight? Can you help me with something?"
Brooklyn glanced at the time, "I should be free. Sebastian's out, and I'm home alone. Are you coming over?"
"No, no! I wouldn't dare! Hey, if you're free, come out. I'll treat you to dinner, coffee, and a movie. I just need a small favor."
Brooklyn rolled her eyes, figured out Kelly's intention. "Spill it, What's up?"
"I knew you'd help! My dad set me up on a blind date. You know, I'm not getting any younger, even though I look young! But my parents are worried."
Brooklyn closed her book and headed upstairs. "You want me to go with you?"
"Yes! You're my lucky charm! With you there, I'll fail the date!"
"Kelly, what do you mean by that? I'm not going!"
Brooklyn said she wouldn't go, but she was already picking out a simple, even frumpy outfit, wondering why she ever bought it.
"Sorry! I mean, you'll help me find a great match!"
Brooklyn almost laughed, "Stop talking. I'm changing and heading out. I'll dress as plain as possible to make you look young and beautiful."
"You're the best! Let's go shopping first, then dinner at six! See you!"
After hanging up, Brooklyn changed, skipped the makeup, and went downstairs.
She hesitated over the car keys, looking at the row of luxury cars in the garage. What should she drive?
She spotted the keys to her old, beat-up car.
Perfect!
Brooklyn grabbed the keys, slipped on some flats, and headed out.
