Chapter 148 Ridiculed by Colleagues

Brooklyn arrived at the hospital just on time, thankfully. She was not late.

She changed into her white coat and headed to her consultation room, only to see the waiting hall packed with people holding registration slips.

Just moments ago, she was still flirting with Sebastian in the luxury villa, and now she was in a pungent-smelling waiting hall.

Brooklyn felt a surge of conflicting emotions.

She wondered what Sebastian was doing at that moment. Was he at home with Megan or at the office?

"Doctor, I've had chest pain for half a month..."

The patient's report on their symptoms brought Brooklyn back to reality. She nodded. "Preliminary diagnosis is fatigue-induced angina. Take this lab slip to the CT labs for a scan..."

Once she started working, Brooklyn immersed herself in the work.

Time passed quickly, with one patient after another, leaving no time for other thoughts. At noon, all the consulting doctors finished their shifts.

Brooklyn looked up to find several patients still waiting outside, murmuring that they had come from far away just to see Dr. Mitchell.

"Come in." Brooklyn decided to work overtime.

After diagnosing the last coronary heart disease patient, Brooklyn suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach. She pressed her fist against her stomach. It was just because she had not had breakfast, but it should not be so bad, right?

No, it was not just hunger. She was also upset.

Brooklyn walked out of the consultation room to find the entire cardiology department's doors closed and the waiting hall empty. She put her hands in her white coat pockets and felt the keys she intended to return to Zach.

Should she return the keys another time? Perhaps when they met again? If she specifically went to return the keys, it might lead to unnecessary speculation, and she did not want to give Zach any false hopes.

There were still quite a few people in the staff cafeteria. Brooklyn got her meal and looked for a seat. Most seats had one or two people, so she sat at a nearby table where two doctors were eating.

Upon seeing Brooklyn sit down, the two doctors picked up their trays and left, whispering, "She's the one having an affair. The hospital won't let us talk about it, but the more they forbid it, the more suspicious it seems. How unlucky!"

Brooklyn gripped her cutlery tightly before slowly picking up a piece of meat and putting it in her mouth. She thought the rumors had died down, but the slander and insults still lingered in everyone's minds.

However, who was helping her? Who was silencing them?

"Well, if it isn't our famous adulteress of a doctor, the outstanding cardiologist Brooklyn. She looks like a rat instead, doesn't she?"

Brooklyn did not turn to look at the speaker, but from the sharp voice, she recognized it as Samantha. Samantha's resentment had only grown after a failed surgery. She deliberately raised her voice in front of the dining crowd.

Instantly, everyone stared at Brooklyn. Their gazes almost bore holes into her. The hospital was large, and many people did not know Brooklyn. Today, they finally saw Brooklyn, the woman at the center of the scandal.

The gossip grew louder and more unpleasant.

Brooklyn suppressed her anger as she kept her face expressionless. "If your medical skills are lacking, you can learn. Still, if your heart is not good, no teacher can help you."

Samantha gritted her teeth and slammed her lunchbox on the table, spilling soup onto Brooklyn's white coat, leaving many yellow oil stains.

"How can someone who has an affair have a good heart? Speak for yourself, Brooklyn. You're usually so cold and serious but you're just a wh*re deep down!"

"Have you said enough? Shut up!"

Brooklyn glared at Samantha, her fingers turning white from the pressure, her lips pale. She was exhausted from the morning and did not want to deal with anyone.

"Dr. Scott, everyone has privacy. Why be so open about it?"

Piper? What a coincidence!

"Yes, Dr. Whitman. Sorry, I lost my temper for a moment." Samantha pretended to apologize, but in reality, she confirmed Brooklyn's affair.

Piper took a stance to protect Brooklyn, saying to the people around, "What are you looking at? Disperse. Aren't doctors allowed to have personal lives?"

As she said this, the people around her covered their mouths and snickered.

Brooklyn slowly raised her eyes to Piper's mocking gaze. "Dr. Whitman, what do you mean by that?"

Piper leaned in, her face full of disdain as she glanced at the oil stains on Brooklyn's coat. "No need to pretend in front of me. Your relationship with Sebastian is improper. What else could it be but an affair? His official girlfriend is Megan."

Brooklyn almost explained that she was Sebastian's wife. However, after thinking about it, why bother explaining when things were this bad? The divorce was inevitable, and the more people knew, the worse it would be for her post-divorce.

Brooklyn sneered. "Think what you want."

She stood up, stepped over Samantha, and walked away.

Samantha glanced at Piper, understanding her cue, and then shouted sarcastically, "Just a reminder, an adulteress should have some self-awareness. With someone like Sebastian, don't keep eyeing Dr. Carter. He won't be interested in a dirty woman like you. Don't ruin his reputation!"

"Dr. Scott, since when is it your job to protect my reputation?"
