Chapter 588 Harm Someone In Front of Her Eyes, Seek Death!
"Benedict? What are you doing here?" Brooklyn walked to the elevator and saw Benedict in casual clothes. He didn't look like he had just arrived, so why hadn't he said anything?
Hearing Brooklyn's voice, Benedict grinned, "Just wandering around. Brooklyn, Zach got pulled away by someone, and Sebastian isn't in town. Come keep me company."
Brooklyn crossed her arms and looked at him. "Benedict, your only patient, Sofia, has been discharged. Why are you hanging around the hospital?"
Benedict scratched his stubble, "Sofia's out, but you're still here! Come on, let's grab a late-night snack and chat."
Brooklyn scrutinized his eyes, "How did you know I had surgery tonight?"
Benedict rubbed his chin. "Jake told me."
"Jake? Benedict, did you take Jake on as a student?!"
"Keep it down, don't let Arabella hear. She'd flip out!"
"Spill it, why Jake and not Arabella? She'll pluck your beard out!"
Laughing, they reached Zach's office. Brooklyn grabbed a photo without looking at it and handed it to Benedict, "Hold this, I'm going to change."
Benedict wasn't ready when a large manila envelope was shoved into his hands. He pouted, "You're bullying me again, Brooklyn. You're getting naughtier!"
"I'll treat you to something delicious tonight, okay?"
As people got older, they got more particular. Taking care of the elderly required the patience of dealing with children.
"Something delicious? That's not enough!"
Ignoring his complaints, Brooklyn headed to the changing room.
Benedict frowned and peeked into the envelope. Curiosity got the better of him, and he opened it. Before he could see clearly, a bunch of photos spilled out.
Benedict rubbed his temples and looked down to see the floor covered in photos.
Photos of Brooklyn, Brooklyn with Sebastian, and group shots with Zach.
There were at least fifty or sixty photos scattered around.
"Young people, always taking pictures... Not bad, though." Benedict bent down to pick up the photos, organizing them. He held one of Brooklyn and Sebastian together, a subtle smile on his face.
A beautiful couple naturally drew attention, but what moved Benedict more was the thought of how Sebastian's biological father would feel if he saw this.
Benedict sighed softly, "Alaric, if you knew you had a son, you'd be so happy. You always loved kids. It's a shame you were killed before you could marry and have children... But, Alaric, Sebastian is so much like you, though his personality is different. If you had raised him, he'd be just like you..."
Lost in thought, Benedict slipped one of the photos into his pocket.
He'd take it to Alaric's grave, to show him his son.
Brooklyn returned, looking fresh in a light red coat that suited her well.
"Benedict, what do you want to eat tonight? My treat."
Benedict pouted, "Your treat? It's not like you're cooking. If you're treating me, you have to cook yourself, or it doesn't count."
Brooklyn exaggerated her pout even more, "You dare eat my cooking? Aren't you afraid I'll add something special?"
"Special? Poison? Is my life worth poisoning? Haha, just give me the money you'd spend on poison. I'll buy cigarettes."
Brooklyn frowned, clutching the photo envelope, almost ready to explode, "Benedict, you're getting greedier with age. And stop smoking! As a doctor, you should set an example."
"Brooklyn, you're starting to nag."
They chatted as they walked to the hospital lobby.
Brooklyn went to get the car while Benedict waited outside.
Thinking about smoking brought back memories. Benedict had started smoking after Alaric's death, and it became a habit.
As a doctor, he knew smoking was harmful, but those days...
A moment later, Brooklyn returned with the car. Benedict said, "Brooklyn, since Sebastian isn't home tonight, how about we grab some coffee?"
Brooklyn pouted and showed him her phone, "Benedict, it's 10:30 PM. Coffee this late will keep us up all night. I'll take you to a great restaurant in Libertya. Have you ever eaten at Appearance Restaurant? You'll love it."
"Sounds good!"
The white Maybach drove out of the hospital, followed by a black van a few hundred feet behind.
Inside the van, a man held the steering wheel, a Bluetooth earpiece in his ear, talking to someone. "Benedict got into Brooklyn's car. What now?"
A cold voice on the other end replied, "Follow them. Find an opportunity. The boss said Benedict must die tonight!"
The man in the van responded, "Yes, sir!" He adjusted his speed, keeping a safe distance, watching the car ahead.
"Benedict is with Brooklyn. It might be tricky. If she notices, it could cause trouble."
The man in the van was uneasy. The voice on the other end laughed coldly, "Brooklyn? She's just a woman. What can she do? The boss wants Benedict gone. You failed last time. Don't mess up again, or I won't cover for you."
The man nodded repeatedly, "Thank you. I'll get it done. I rely on your support."
The call ended, and the man gripped the steering wheel tighter, his eyes filled with bloodlust, veins popping in his eyes.
The Maybach maintained a steady speed.
Benedict commented on the photos, occasionally teasing, "Brooklyn, your face is nice, but it doesn't compare to how you looked in school. Sebastian has money. Why not get surgery in Hanland to look like your old self?"
Brooklyn almost lost her temper, "Benedict, do you want to eat or not? If not, I'll take you home."
"Don't! I'm starving! But, Brooklyn, this look isn't bad. You and Sebastian look great together."
"Of course. This face may not be mine, but I've gotten used to it. It even resembles my old face."
Thinking about it, it made sense.
No matter the face, habitual expressions remained the same, becoming part of oneself.
Whether others or oneself, the past and present blend, making it hard to distinguish between Scarlett and Brooklyn.
Benedict sighed, "Brooklyn, surviving a disaster brings good fortune. You must take care of yourself."
Ahead was Appearance Restaurant, its vintage lights shining brightly in the night.
"Looks nice. When did you find this place, Brooklyn? I like it!"
Brooklyn parked the car and opened the door. "Not telling you. Get out first."
Benedict smacked his lips, "You go in first. I'll smoke a cigarette before eating."
Brooklyn couldn't argue, "Fine, I'll order."
Brooklyn went inside while Benedict lit a cigarette.
The black van slowed down about 100 feet away, "Benedict is alone."
"What are you waiting for? Kill him!"
The voice on the other end roared, making the man's ears ring, "Yes!"
With that, the man floored the gas pedal!
The black van shot towards Benedict like a bullet!
At the same time, Brooklyn remembered that Appearance Restaurant was members-only. Without a membership card or a membership, they wouldn't be seated.
After choosing a table, she hurried back outside.
Benedict had smoked most of his cigarette, the rest between his fingers. He walked slowly towards the entrance, taking a few last puffs.
"Benedict, are you done? They'll close soon."
Benedict tossed the cigarette into the trash, smiling, "Coming! Coming!"
As he said "coming," the black van sped towards him like a lightning bolt!
The headlights blinded them, forcing them to squint, unable to see what was coming!
Brooklyn's nerves fired, her long legs sprinting towards Benedict like lightning!
"Benedict!"
In a split second, Benedict's eyes widened, the van speeding towards him with deadly intent!
Benedict felt himself being yanked to the side, realizing Brooklyn had pulled him!
"Brooklyn, you..."
Before he could ask, Brooklyn quickly helped him up, shoving the membership card into his hand, her eyes filled with fury, staring at the van's disappearing taillights.
Brooklyn pulled out her car keys, "You go eat. I'll catch them!"
With that, Brooklyn ran to the car, her tall frame slipping into the Maybach's driver's seat.
Trying to hit someone right in front of her? They were asking for it!
