Chapter 476 His Bottom Line

Half an hour later.

"What happened? Why did she suddenly pass out?"

As soon as Sebastian arrived, the tension in the room shot up, making the doctors and nurses instinctively step back.

He leaned over, holding the hand of the pale woman lying on the bed. His heart ached as he looked at Brooklyn's exhausted face, as if she had just fought a fierce battle. Sebastian felt an indescribable anger and guilt.

What had he missed? How could he not know his own wife was this sick?

Damn it! What kind of husband was he?

Zach spoke up, "The diagnosis is that she was overly emotional, which caused a sudden spike in her blood pressure. Also…" Zach glanced around. "There's something else you should know."

Sebastian's frown deepened as he listened to Zach. His displeasure was written all over his face. "Go on."

Standing tall but exuding a chilling aura, Sebastian followed Zach into the VIP room's lounge. Impatient, he demanded, "What is it? Just say it."

Zach pulled out a CT scan from a paper bag on the table. "This is Brooklyn's brain CT. It shows a blood clot in her brain, likely from the fall three years ago. It was too small to detect initially, but now it's grown and is pressing on her nerves."

"What did you say?"

Sebastian snatched the CT scan from Zach's hand, his cold eyes fixed on the image. Even without a medical background, he could see the dark spot in the brain scan.

Zach anticipated Sebastian's reaction and quickly added, "This type of blood clot can be surgically removed. With today's medical advancements, there's no risk to her life. Averlake has the world's top specialists, with a 100% success rate."

Sebastian slammed the CT scan onto the table, his eyes still blazing with anger. His fists clenched, veins bulging on the back of his hands.

Three years ago, that damn fall.

This time, Sebastian's patience had run out. He wouldn't let those who hurt his wife get away with it anymore. He wouldn't give them another chance!

Piper, that woman, he would make sure Brooklyn never had to deal with her again!

Seeing the murderous intent in Sebastian's eyes, Zach shivered. "Sebastian, what's going on?"

"Nothing. I'm going to check on Brooklyn. When will she be out of danger?"

"She should wake up in about two hours. It'll take two days for her to be out of danger, depending on her recovery."

"Good."

"The medical staff will be here 24/7. Don't worry."

"In two days, I'll take her to Averlake for surgery. I'll arrange everything with the medical team there. If you have any suggestions, let me know."

"Why the rush? How will you explain it to her?"

Sebastian's eyes were cold and clear. "I don't want her to know. It would only add to her stress."

"That's probably for the best. I trust you'll handle it."

Sebastian didn't respond. Every time he looked at Brooklyn, his heart twisted in pain.

It was his lack of protection that caused her so much suffering. He was truly unforgivable!

Zach observed Sebastian's expression, hesitating before speaking. "Are you thinking about what happened three years ago?"

After a moment's hesitation, Zach couldn't hold back. If it weren't for the incident three years ago, Sebastian wouldn't be so visibly angry. He wouldn't show his emotions so clearly.

Sebastian was a man who could kill without batting an eye.

"Yes. If you have something to say, just say it."

At this point, Sebastian just wanted to resolve everything quickly and eliminate anyone involved.

Zach's hand tightened in his lab coat pocket, trying to hide his emotions. "There's something I should have told you a long time ago. I thought it was over, but today it's clear it's not."

"What is it?"

With a long sigh, Zach detailed the events of that rainy night to Sebastian. Even Zach was surprised after he finished.

"Do you think Piper is the direct culprit?"

Sebastian sneered, a hint of sarcasm in his smile. "Even without your testimony, I knew it was her. But the person she hired is dead, and there's no one to testify against her. Besides…"

Sebastian looked at Brooklyn on the bed, a cloud of worry in his heart. "Brooklyn is a doctor. She has compassion and doesn't want to eliminate her directly. That's why I haven't acted."

She hadn't said it outright, but her reluctance to make Piper suffer showed her compassion.

This woman, his foolish wife, had endured so much pain and injustice, yet still held forgiveness in her heart.

He didn't know whether to laugh or be angry.

Zach nodded, his usually calm demeanor tinged with anger. "Doctors see a lot of death and have a deep respect for life. I understand her actions, but they seem unnecessary now. Sebastian, do what you need to do. Brooklyn shouldn't suffer anymore."

"I will."

With that simple statement, Sebastian made his stance clear. He wouldn't tolerate or protect anyone anymore.

No evidence?

Sebastian didn't need direct evidence to make someone disappear.

If evidence were required, it wouldn't be hard to find.

Sebastian stayed by Brooklyn's bedside for a while longer, gently wiping her face and smoothing her hair. He kissed her forehead before leaving the room.

Zach watched Sebastian leave, then looked at Brooklyn on the bed, feeling a mix of emotions.

Sebastian picked up his phone and quickly dialed a number. "Dario, I need you to handle something. Quickly… Yes, now. I want results in three days… Good."

Two hours later.

Brooklyn slowly woke up, her eyelids heavy. She blinked several times before her vision focused. "Sebastian? What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at the office?"

Sebastian finally relaxed, gently holding her hand in his. He looked at her with a mix of love and concern and kissed her hand. "My wife is sick. How could I not be here? How do you feel? Is there any discomfort? If there is, I'll get the doctor."

His worry and tenderness touched her heart. She shook her head. "No, I'm fine. I think I've just been too tired lately and fainted from exhaustion."

She spoke with a hint of self-mockery.

"Dr. Mitchell, your patients are lucky to have you, but you need to take care of yourself, too. If you overwork yourself, what will happen to the patients waiting for you?"

Surrounded by his warmth, soothed by his deep, comforting voice, and admiring his handsome face, she felt much better. She teased him, "Sebastian, you're so persuasive. I'm almost convinced."

Sebastian touched her forehead, relieved she didn't have a fever or complications. "You've been working too hard. I'm not busy right now. In a couple of days, let's go to Averlake."

Brooklyn was surprised. "Why the sudden trip to Averlake?"

Sebastian's smile was both charming and domineering. "I remember you got some gifts from someone a while back. It's time to deliver them. Or do you plan to keep them for yourself?"

Gifts?

Oh my! That was so long ago. With everything that's been happening, she had completely forgotten about the gifts from Kevin.

And she had promised to introduce Sebastian to her parents, but that had slipped her mind, too.

"Alright! We'll go in a couple of days."

Going to Averlake was also a chance to formally introduce her man to her parents. Plus, Brooklyn had asked Lawrence to deal with Simon, something she didn't want Sebastian to know about.

Brooklyn spent two days in the hospital, which almost turned into a high-end reception room.

Quinn visited with a large bouquet of lilies and stayed for half the day.

But Quinn's lingering wasn't just about visiting the patient.

"Brooklyn, where's your rude, uncultured assistant?"

The real reason Quinn stayed so long was this.

Brooklyn laughed. "Quinn, don't tell me you've taken a liking to my assistant? I should warn you, she's a top student from Aucester Medical University. She has high standards."

"Are you kidding? I, interested in her? She's got no looks, no style, no taste. I'd never like her!"

Brooklyn smirked. "If you don't like her, I'll introduce her to someone else. I have a patient who's quite interested in her and asked for her contact info. I'll give it to him today."

"Damn it! Who is it? Brooklyn, you should be careful. Don't… don't let her ruin a good man's life."

Don't want her to ruin someone, or don't want anyone else to be interested in her? Quinn, you've fallen for her, haven't you?

That night, Sebastian stayed at the hospital with Brooklyn. She slept comfortably in his arms. The next morning, the room was filled with chatter.

James, Kelly, Brandon, and Bianca all showed up.

James and Brandon never got along, and Brandon and Bianca were in a heated conflict.

Kelly was always talkative.

With all of them together, it was a miracle the roof didn't blow off.

"OK! Enough! You guys are giving me a headache. Please, go home and give me some peace."

Brooklyn shooed them away, finally getting some quiet.

But if she had known the bigger trouble she'd face after getting rid of those noisy people, she might have chosen to endure the noise.

Because shortly after they left, someone she really didn't want to see walked in.

It was none other than Sebastian's biological mother, Jennifer.

"Brooklyn, feeling better?"

She asked with such concern, as if she truly cared for her daughter-in-law.

"Yes, much better."

Jennifer sat down, her smile forced but trying to be friendly. "I know you don't want to see me, but I didn't come here to make things worse between us."

Brooklyn couldn't even muster a cold laugh. "Then why are you here?"

"I… I want to apologize."
