Chapter 396 What If I Fall in Love with You?

Scarlett woke up to find that it was already fully bright outside.

She lifted her head and saw sunlight streaming through the window screen. The light wasn't strong, but after a night's sleep, her eyes were a bit unaccustomed to it. She stretched out her hand to block the light, and the warm rays seeped through her fingers, warming her heart.

She suddenly remembered last night's nightmare, and her heart trembled slightly. Did she actually fall asleep last night? For the past two years, without exception, she would suffer from insomnia after a nightmare, but last night Sebastian broke that pattern?

The psychologist had said that her nightmares were due to excessive fear, and if she could find something that made her feel completely at ease, she wouldn't be troubled by nightmares anymore.

At first, she thought that person was Kevin, but even with him watching over her all night, she still couldn't sleep and could only close her eyes and pretend to be at peace.

She never would have thought that person was actually Sebastian.

Could it be that their connection didn't just start now?

If judged by human subconscious, was it possible that in the memories she lost, Sebastian was involved?

But then why didn't Sebastian remember her? He only remembered Brooklyn, and he only paid attention to her because her voice was similar to Brooklyn's?

Her mind was in chaos. Scarlett shook her head, walked barefoot on the carpet to the window, and lifted a corner of the beige window screen with her fingers. Looking down, she saw Sebastian jogging in the yard.

Sebastian was jogging towards the sunlight, wearing a white tracksuit. His hair swayed slightly with his movements, and under his hair, sweat glistened in the sunlight.

The simple outfit looked both stylish and elegant on him. His long legs and tall frame, with his straight back, made him look like a prince walking among the flowers.

Scarlett was startled by her own metaphor. How could she have such a strange thought?

Was't he just cold, unfeeling and narcissistic.

She let go of the curtain, washed up, changed clothes, and went downstairs, where she smelled the scent of toast mixed with the morning sunlight. Was Sebastian making breakfast again?

She tiptoed to the kitchen door and secretly watched Sebastian's busy back. From ten feet away, Sebastian, now in a white shirt, looked tall with his fluffy, styled hair. She didn't know what he was busy with, but his hands were constantly moving.

Scarlett took out her phone and snapped a picture of his back.

Sebastian heard the sound and turned around abruptly. His face, usually expressionless, showed a hint of helplessness. He raised an eyebrow, and before he could speak, there was another click of the camera.

Scarlett waved her phone, "You are quite charming when you are making breakfast. I'm capturing the moment for you, no need to thank me."

Sebastian frowned, "If you want to take a picture, do it openly. I won't refuse a follower's admiration."

Scarlett denied it immediately, "Stop being narcissistic. Who's following you? I just think the salad looks good!"

Sebastian held a plate of salad, vibrant and colorful, with evenly cut vegetables and fruits. The colorful salad against his pure white shirt looked like a piece of art.

Frowning, he looked at his creation but didn't seem to care, "Personally, I think my face is more worthy of your camera than this salad."

The tilt of his mouth expressed Sebastian's confidence and arrogance, yet it was an undeniable fact that left Scarlett speechless.

"Narcissist!" Scarlett shrugged and left the kitchen with her phone.

She unlocked the screen, and a picture of Sebastian's back was centered on the screen. His strong, straight back showed no sign of excess weight, even with his shirt tucked into his dress pants.

She swiped her finger, and there was a front shot of Sebastian, a sudden glance back, with a lazy and helpless look in his eyes that somehow seemed a bit cute.

Scarlett chuckled.

After breakfast, Sebastian went upstairs to the walk-in closet to choose his suit and tie for the day. Just as he was about to tie his tie, Scarlett's head suddenly and stealthily popped out. He was startled by her unexpected appearance. "What are you doing here?"

Scarlett shrugged, "You didn't close the door, so I came in. Besides, there's no sign at the door saying 'No Entry'."

Forgive Scarlett, she was a bit bored and restless after being injured, and she was always scheming about how to get Sebastian to reveal something that would prove they knew each other before.

Sebastian frowned, tying his tie in front of the mirror, his back to her, but he could see her in the mirror.

Scarlett pondered for a moment, touching her chin, "Sebastian, I think this suit would go better with a red tie. Although the blue checkered one in your hand is nice, it doesn't highlight your aura enough."

She pulled out a red tie and hung it on her finger, smiling casually with a hint of allure.

Sebastian frowned but didn't take it.

"Don't doubt me. I bet if your wife were here, she would choose this one too. A white shirt with a bright tie won't make the atmosphere feel oppressive. Besides, your skin is so radiant, you can definitely pull off a red tie."

His skin? Wasn't it his aura?

Sebastian took the tie, his fingers deftly wrapping it around. He glanced at Scarlett in the mirror, "You're very interested in my wife?"

To be honest, she was indeed interested in Brooklyn. "Many people say my voice is very similar to hers, but I'm more curious if we have other similarities. Or, did we know each other before?"

Sebastian finished tying the tie, and indeed, he looked different. A tie could sometimes be like a woman's lipstick, choosing the right color can elevate a person's aura.

"Whether you knew each other, it seems you know better than I do." He picked up his coat, and with a swirl, the black suit was on him. Buttoning it up one by one, his long fingers, with their enticing knuckles, were mesmerizing.

Scarlett bit her lip, lowered her head, and softly said, her posture unconsciously softening, "To be honest, I was injured once and forgot some things. So I want to know if we knew each other and I just forgot."

His fingers paused on the last button, and through the dressing mirror, he saw Scarlett's lifted eyes, clear as a spring, pure as ice and snow, with a touch of softness.

"You were injured? Lost your memory?" He asked, turning to look at her, their eyes meeting, sparks flying.

Scarlett nodded, pointing to her forehead, "It seems something went wrong here. When my father found me, I was already unconscious. When I woke up, I couldn't remember many things."

The veins on the back of Sebastian's hand suddenly bulged, but with previous experiences, he didn't dare to be rash. Suppressing the shock of his heartache, he asked, "Where did it happen?"

"Peak of Avalanche Heights. My dad loves outdoor adventures. At that time, I was climbing with him and fell off a cliff halfway. That's why I'm often haunted by nightmares, and because of that accident, I lost many memories."

Peak of Avalanche Heights.

The flame in Sebastian's heart extinguished once again. He closed his eyes, forcing himself to calm down. Brooklyn was already dead, he couldn't hold onto fantasies anymore.

"Maybe you knew each other, but I don't know you." He was certain.

Scarlett was a bit disappointed, "I thought we knew each other before."

"Apparently not." Dressed, Sebastian turned and left the walk-in closet. Scarlett chased to the door, smiling lightly, "Turns out the red one does suit you better."

Sebastian turned back to see her standing at the top of the stairs, smiling at him, her arm resting on the railing, exuding the first hint of morning tenderness.

"If you're bored at home, go out. I'll have Owen come back to pick you up."

Scarlett smiled, "Sebastian, I'm suddenly worried about one thing."

Holding his car keys, he looked up and asked, "What?"

They looked at each other across the space, the air filled with the scent of roses in the living room.

"I'm worried I might actually fall in love with you." She teased, raising an eyebrow with a playful smile.

"That would be a wise choice. I'm looking forward to that day." He was confident and composed.

Scarlett, however, frowned and smiled bitterly, "That's not a good thing. Your heart only loves your wife, there's no room for anyone else. Sebastian, any woman who falls in love with you won't have a good outcome. No matter how good she is, she'll always be a substitute for Brooklyn."

After saying that, she walked downstairs. A large bouquet of roses bloomed in the living room. Unknowingly, Kevin had already sent so many. "And I don't want to be a substitute. I want to be someone's first, only, and always."

She smiled, so generously that he was left speechless.

Sebastian didn't refute, what she said was the truth.

The Rivera Villa.

James was about to leave when Piper blocked his way.

"What are the results? Tell me." Piper stood in front of James with her arms crossed, her questioning gaze not allowing him to hesitate.

James twirled the keychain on his finger, "Piper, why are you so curious about Scarlett? Isn't she just a doctor?"

"Cut the crap and tell me the results. Did she lose her memory or not?"

"Piper, I'm rushing to the company. Can you not block me?"

Piper directly closed the door, "Do you think you can hide your thoughts from me? Spill it. What did you talk about with Scarlett?"

Unable to resist her, James summarized the key points, "I've told you. Can I go now?"

So Scarlett did lose her memory.

James drove away from Imperial Estate, and his phone rang.

"Mr. Rivera, the restaurant you reserved is ready for 8 PM."

"Good." James checked his watch; it was 9 AM.

'Scarlett, I don't believe you can resist me. I don't believe any woman I like can get away.' he thought.Aucester Hospital.

Lisa rushed into Lavern's office with patient files, panting, "Mr. Rojas, the patient suddenly went into shock!"

"The patient who was admitted yesterday?" Lavern was stunned.

"Yes! He's part of this project. His condition is very complicated. Cory and two other doctors are performing emergency CPR, but the patient needs surgery as soon as possible!"

Lavern pushed back his chair and strode towards the emergency room, asking as he walked, "Tell me the specifics."

Lisa explained the situation, and Lavern stopped in his tracks. He turned to look at Lisa's blue eyes, wanting to say something, but sighed instead.

"Mr. Rojas, are you wondering about Scarlett's arm? Whether she can perform the surgery?" Lisa asked.

"Yes. How is she?"

Lisa shook her head, her forehead wrinkling, "Scarlett is still recovering. She can't complete such a long surgery, or her arm would be ruined."

Such surgeries would take seven to eight hours.

What to do?

Lavern slapped his forehead, "Let's go to the director's office!"

"For what?" Lisa asked, but Lavern grabbed her arm and pulled her into the elevator, taking a deep breath, "The only way now is to have Mr. Clark bring Zach back."

The rumored Zach who had given up on surgery?

Lavern was so excited he could barely speak, "Now we need Mr. Clark to find a way to get Zach back. If he comes back, the patient can be saved. But that fool Zach, who knows if he's still crazy?"

"Doesn't matter. Let's see how Mr. Clark arranges it. This time, Zach must come back! Well, we can ask Scarlett to contact him." He continued.

Lisa stared at Lavern, not understanding a word except for Scarlett's name.
