Chapter 575 MBK Secretly Changes CEO
Peregrine looked at Brooklyn, guilt written all over his face. "I'm really sorry, Mrs. Kingsley. I didn't think things would get this crazy. I had no idea she'd have the guts to come to the hospital and try to take the kid. I'm really sorry for all the trouble."
Brooklyn gently pinched Sofia's cheek and smiled. "It's no big deal. This happened at our hospital, and as a doctor, it's my responsibility. Plus, Sofia brings us joy. If she's been wronged, of course, we'll all pitch in to help. Peregrine, there's no need to apologize."
Peregrine sighed heavily, his expression serious. "Honestly, I've been expecting a day like this regarding Sofia's custody. Back then, because of the child..."
Seeing Sofia in his arms, Peregrine changed his tone. "Mrs. Kingsley, I plan to sue Dione. I need to get custody of Sofia back."
Brooklyn nodded firmly. "Absolutely. I'll support you all the way. Don't worry about the lawyer; I'll cover all the legal fees. Since I promised to help, I'll see it through to the end."
"Dione didn't just offend you today; she also offended me. She was rude, slandered my husband, and defamed both of us, even dragging my husband's dad into it. I'm not letting this slide."
Benedict, clearly pleased with Brooklyn's determination, clapped his hands. "Brooklyn, you've really grown up. If you need any help, just let me know. We can't go easy on someone like her."
Brooklyn chuckled. "Benedict, what? Are you thinking of rolling up your sleeves and getting into a fight? Why didn't you do it earlier? It would have been quite a show. Work is so boring; we need some excitement, don't we?"
Benedict laughed, his face full of wrinkles. "Brooklyn, you've really come into your own, daring to joke with me. I won't argue with you. I need to check if Sofia has fully recovered. We don't want her to be scared by that awful woman."
Benedict and Peregrine carefully helped Sofia onto the bed and began a thorough examination.
Laughter occasionally came from the ward as Benedict and Sofia chatted happily. Brooklyn, hearing the laughter, smiled and walked back to her office. Arabella and Jake followed her, and the three of them had a brief discussion about the upcoming TV interview.
After a while, Arabella joked, "Dr. Mitchell, I heard Mr. Kingsley was there during the photo shoot. I also heard you two were showing off in front of the single folks. That's so mean! Don't you know the single nurses are lonely?"
Jake clicked his tongue. "Forget that. I heard you're in a hot new relationship, Arabella. Things are going great with your new boyfriend, huh?"
Arabella laughed. "What's the matter, Jake? Feeling lonely and single at your age? Want me to introduce you to a pretty girl? Our school has plenty of beautiful girls, lots of options!"
Meanwhile, on the other side of Aucester, in the CBD business district.
Quinn's car pulled up in front of the MBK. As he opened his car door, he saw Brian's car pulling up behind him.
A black Bentley arrived, followed closely by a black Mercedes-Benz van.
Quinn frowned slightly. What was going on? Did Brian bring bodyguards?
He remembered not seeing anyone with Brian when he left. Why was there suddenly another car?
Full of suspicion, Quinn stood by his car, observing. Soon, the door of the other car opened, and out stepped Donny.
Quinn's frown deepened. What was Donny doing here?
After leaving the NBA, Donny had never been involved in the company's affairs and was even blacklisted. Why was he suddenly at the company?
Quinn stood by his car, waiting for them to approach. He greeted them with a smile. "Morning, Dad. Morning, Donny."
Brian nodded in response.
Donny, full of enthusiasm, was greeted warmly. "Morning, Quinn. I saw you leaving in a hurry, so I didn't say anything. Today is my first day at the company. You're an old hand here, so I'll be counting on you."
What? Working here? How did he get a job at MBK?
Donny had left the company in shambles to go to Coralhaven, creating a deep rift with Brian. How did he get invited back?
As Quinn pondered this, he felt a sense of unease. With Sebastian away in Aqua Vista City...
Quinn suddenly felt a twinge of anxiety. Sebastian had just left, and Brian was already bringing Donny in to handle business. This decision seemed...
Quinn kept his thoughts to himself, maintaining a smile. "Donny, you've always enjoyed a carefree life. Why come to the company and work hard? Besides, with your status, can MBK even afford you?"
Though his tone was polite, there was an underlying sense of rejection.
Quinn had never gotten along with Donny and didn't like him. With Sebastian away, he needed to be extra vigilant.
Rumor had it that someone would temporarily take over Sebastian's role. Quinn's heart skipped a beat. Could it be Donny? That would be ridiculous!
Donny had nearly run his own company into the ground. Quinn stopped his thoughts there.
Brian cleared his throat, his voice cold and emotionless. "Alright, let's go up."
With Brian's command, Quinn and Donny followed him up the steps. The three of them walked through the revolving glass doors. The reception staff, seeing the three of them together, looked at the unfamiliar man in surprise.
Upon closer inspection, they recognized him as part of the Kingsley family.
The staff, not daring to speculate on the family's internal matters, politely greeted them, "Good morning, Mr. Brian Kingsley. Good morning, Mr. Quinn Kingsley."
Donny's cold gaze swept over the pretty receptionist and the luxurious interior of the building, and he let out a snort.
The three of them took the VIP elevator. Quinn intended to stop at the finance department, but Brian stopped him, and the elevator went straight to the top floor.
In Brian's office, Brian sat in his chair, pulled out a file, and tossed it to Donny. "This is the market report for the past month. Familiarize yourself with it. You'll be in charge of the marketing department."
"Got it, Uncle Brian."
"But I'm not bringing you in to slack off. You know MBK's standards. We hire based on talent. If your work doesn't meet my expectations, I'll let you go." Brian said.
Donny, smiling, took the file and began to read it carefully. "Don't worry, Uncle Brian. I'll do my best for the company. After all, it's the Kingsley family's business. I'll give it my all."
Quinn couldn't help but scoff internally but kept his expression neutral.
He watched his father closely, trying to understand his intentions.
After assigning Donny's tasks, Brian turned to Quinn, twirling a black pen in his fingers. He pulled out another file, signed it, and handed it to Quinn. "Quinn, starting today, you'll temporarily take over Sebastian's duties. Familiarize yourself with his work."
Brian's tone was casual, as if this decision was no big deal.
Quinn stared at Brian in shock. "Dad, what? You want me to take over Sebastian's work? No way. Sebastian is just on a business trip; he'll be back. Why have someone else take over? He can handle his work remotely. There's no need to replace him. Besides, the CEO's role isn't something just anyone can fill. I'm not qualified."
"Not qualified? Quinn, are you suggesting I find someone else to replace Sebastian? Fine, recommend someone." Brian leaned back in his chair, his cold eyes meeting Quinn's, silencing him.
Quinn gritted his teeth, unwilling but helpless. Facing Brian's authority, he felt tense. "Dad, Sebastian's role is crucial. It affects company decisions, projects, and even the stock market. You can't just hand it over to anyone."
"I wouldn't hand it over to just anyone. That's why I'm giving it to you. I believe you've learned enough from Sebastian to handle it. Yancy will assist you. If you have any questions, ask him. Now, go familiarize yourself with the work."
Quinn never expected that the person he feared would replace Sebastian would be himself.
Should he be relieved or anxious?
His face showed his mixed feelings as he left the office. Donny patted his shoulder. "Quinn, congratulations. With Sebastian away, you're stepping into the CEO role. Make the most of it."
Quinn glared at him. "Donny, watch your words. Be careful not to cause trouble for yourself."
Donny, unfazed, smiled and headed to the elevator. "I'm just an employee here. Uncle Brian won't let me into the inner circle. But you, Quinn, you're young and capable. The CEO role is coveted. Make the most of it."
