Chapter 195 Chasing a Girl

Zach turned around, grinning at Brooklyn. "I was wondering why the fish were biting. Must be your charm," he joked, half-serious. "Isn't it nice to chill for a bit?"

Brooklyn finally realized Kelly was indeed desperately trying to set her up with Zach.

"Brooklyn, don't just stand there. The fishing rod's ready. Come on, sit here and fish. The chef will cook what we catch. It's special to eat what you catch."

Kelly nudged Brooklyn to sit next to Zach on the bench, their bodies occasionally brushing against each other.

The early summer heat made the air a bit stifling, adding to the awkwardness.

Kelly beamed. "You two enjoy fishing. I'll take a walk and wait for your catch tonight!"

Then, she left them alone.

Zach held the fishing rod, showing off his lean but strong arms. Without his lab coat and shirt, his clean, fair skin was quite striking.

Probably because he was a doctor, his skin was smooth, looking quite healthy.

"Sorry, I'm not great at chasing girls. Hope today isn't a waste for you," Zach said honestly. He was straightforward, never beating around the bush.

Brooklyn tried to stay composed. "Dr. Carter, I'm married. This isn't appropriate."

Zach's eyes were clear as he smiled brightly "I know. I'm ready to be the third wheel. If it makes you smile, I don't care about the gossip. That's my burden, not yours."

Brooklyn was at a loss for words.

He quietly looked at her, memorizing her features. "You're kind. Be careful, I might take advantage of your kindness."

Brooklyn was taken aback. "What do you mean?"

"Obviously, your kindness makes it hard for you to reject suitors. I'm patient. I'll wait for the fish to bite. But to catch a mermaid like you, I need better bait."

Zach's gentle eyes met hers as he smiled. "Want to know what it is?"

He watched the fishing line and her reflection in the water, then he softened. "My bait is absolute acceptance and constant companionship."

Brooklyn felt her face burning. 'Where did Zach learn to flirt like this?'

"You're wasting your kindness on me. Try someone else. Maybe Dr. Rivera would appreciate it," Brooklyn said, trying to change the subject.

This sudden warmth and strange tenderness moved her, but she couldn't accept it.

Zach didn't push further. Instead, he excitedly showed off his catch. "Dr. Mitchell, I caught another one."

Sure enough, he pulled up another fat fish, about 3 inches long. He skillfully put it in the bucket, which already had five decent-sized fish.

Brooklyn lifted her rod—nothing. Even the bait was gone!

At Bayside Villas, Sebastian came home from work and noticed Brooklyn wasn't there.

The maid thought he was looking for Megan and said, "Ms. Turner is sleeping upstairs."

Sebastian didn't care about Megan. He changed his shoes and asked, "Where's Ms. Mitchell?"

'I told her to stay home!' he thought.

Savannah walked over, taking his briefcase. "Mr. Kingsley, Ms. Mitchell got a call and left. She said she was going to Return Manor."

'Return Manor?' Sebastian frowned.

"When did she leave? When is she coming back?"

"She left two or three hours ago and said she wouldn't be back tonight," Savannah said.

'Brooklyn was staying out all night again and didn't even tell me!'

Sebastian put his shoes back on.

"Mr. Kingsley, Ms. Turner wanted you to—"

"I have something to do. I won't be back tonight. Tell her when she wakes up."

"Yes, Mr. Kingsley!"

Angry, Sebastian grabbed his car keys and slammed the door.
