Chapter 68 Attempt to be A Good Wife
"Contact the surgeon immediately, the patient needs surgery." Brooklyn commanded as she followed the stretcher all the way to the door of the operating room and then stopped.
After a while, the surgical team rushed over, and the lead surgeon reprimanded the nurse in charge. "Why didn't you contact us directly?"
The nurse, who was being scolded, dared not speak out of turn. Brooklyn stepped forward and calmly explained, "The patient has a heart condition and has been receiving traditional medication treatment in the cardiology department. But now the situation has worsened and surgery is necessary. I just checked, and the patient's coronary artery needs a stent."
"Leave the rest to us, Dr. Mitchell."
Brooklyn nodded, watched the operating room door close, and then leaned against her knees, gasping for air.
The white bandage on Brooklyn's wound was soaked with blood again. If this continued, she was truly worried about leaving unsightly scars, as Zach had mentioned.
"Doctor, please save my husband. We've only been married for three years, I just found out I'm pregnant, our child and I can't lose him!"
Brooklyn was drawn to the pleading of the family members and turned to see the woman standing outside the operating room, one hand on her belly and the other on the glass door of the room, her legs trembling from exhaustion.
"Madam, please sit down and rest for a while. Your husband's condition is not too bad, the doctors will save him, don't worry." Brooklyn helped the pregnant woman sit on a chair. The pregnant woman's face was pale, her eyes red from crying.
She held onto Brooklyn as if grasping at a lifeline. "Doctor, thank you, thank you! I thank you for my child!"
A child? Brooklyn gently looked at her belly. The pregnant woman hadn't been pregnant for long, her belly not showing much of a curve yet. "How many months pregnant are you?"
Thinking of the child, a hint of warmth finally appeared on the pregnant woman's face. "Just two months. We've been married for three years, and it was a struggle to conceive. I never expected something like this to happen."
Brooklyn reached out to her back, hesitated for a moment, and gently stroked her back, comforting her, "It's okay, trust the doctors. Take good care of the child, don't get too emotional. Wait for the baby's father to come out, okay?"
"I'll listen to you, I won't get excited, I won't get nervous. Baby, let's wait for daddy together."
The woman's emotions eased slightly. Brooklyn handed her a cup of hot water. "The surgery will take a long time. You shouldn't stay here the whole time. Let other family members come and take turns."
The pregnant woman held the paper cup and shook her head. "My husband and I are from out of town. We struggled in Aucester for many years before buying a house. Our family isn't here. It's okay, I'll stay here."
She looked up at Brooklyn, her eyes filled with gratitude and happiness.
The pregnant woman thought of something and began hesitantly, her voice trembling, "Doctor, how much does a stent procedure cost?"
After some thought, Brooklyn estimated the cost of the stent, medical fees, and hospitalization. She then gave a conservative figure.
Upon hearing it, the pregnant woman's expression darkened momentarily, but she quickly nodded firmly. "As long as it can cure him, I'll sell the house if I have to."
Brooklyn's fingertips trembled slightly. There were many couples like this, who had worked hard together after graduation, saved money for a down payment, and hesitated to have children due to lack of savings.
For them, the house was almost their entire asset.
To save her husband and for their child, the strength this fragile woman displayed was truly admirable.
"We have performed thousands of such surgeries, it will definitely be successful. You don't need to worry. Your husband will pull through when he sees how hard you're trying." Brooklyn consoled.
The pregnant woman wiped away her tears and sighed in relief. "Doctor, you're a good person. If you're married, you must be a good wife, too."
Brooklyn smiled. "I hope so. Rest here, I'll attend to other matters."
Walking out of the corridor and turning the corner, Brooklyn finally let out a breath she had been holding. Compared to those who struggled to survive, she and Sebastian didn't know how lucky they were.
She really should focus on learning and becoming a true wife. Regardless of whether he acknowledged it or not, accepted it or not.
Brooklyn sat on a bench, took out her phone thoughtfully, her finger hovering over Sebastian's number.
She thought to herself, 'It was noon, he should be eating, right? But asking him if he had eaten was too deliberate, she couldn't do it. What about Megan's prenatal check-up? Would that be a good excuse?'
After much contemplation, Brooklyn ran her fingers through her hair. In these three years, he hadn't even acknowledged her identity. Did she really need to care about him?
The phone screen was too sensitive, and with a slight slip, the number had already been dialed.
She wanted to hang up quickly!
However, in the blink of an eye, the call had already connected!
