Chapter 275 Gently Silencing Her
Seraphina was left totally speechless, then forced a smile and said, "I just thought, when you come over tonight, I could ask you straight up, isn't that..."
"No need. Brooklyn's my wife, and I'll handle everything about her," he said coldly.
Staring at the hung-up phone, Seraphina was stunned, then gritted her teeth and cursed angrily, "Brooklyn, that ungrateful bitch, now she's the queen of the Kingsley family and doesn't even care about the Mitchell Group anymore!"
Susie squinted her eyes sinisterly and added, "The Mitchell Group got bought out, and she didn't even bat an eye. She always said she wanted to protect the Mitchell Group. I think she's just cold and heartless!"
With the Mitchell Group's influence tanking, Seraphina and Susie, who used to be big shots in the aristocratic circle, couldn't even get invites to regular parties anymore. Naturally, they were pissed.
"Hold up. There are plenty of people who hate Brooklyn now. No one probably hates her more than Megan. If we get in touch with Megan and get her help, we can get back into the aristocratic circle." Seraphina grabbed Susie's hand tightly and said firmly, "Susie, don't forget what our life was like before you married into the Mitchell family. We absolutely cannot go back to that poor community! No way!"
Fear glimmered in Susie's eyes when the past memory came floating out, and cold sweat dripped down her back. She said, "No, I don't want to go back! I don't want to go back!"
Brooklyn changed into a simple and elegant dress. While combing her hair in front of the mirror, she looked at herself and smiled bitterly, thinking, 'What exactly is my relationship with Sebastian now? And what changed me to start planning to grow old with him? I know very well that everything is over. The closer I get to him now, the more painful the memories will be for him in the future. Do I want to keep making more memories that'll hurt him?'
The comb fell to the ground as she was lost in thought, and Brooklyn realized she had been zoning out for quite a while.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, snapping out of her trance.
Sebastian stood in the hall, looking up to see the graceful figure coming down. Brooklyn, in a sky-blue long dress, naturally beautiful without makeup, was becoming more and more attractive to him.
He held out his arm for her to take and asked, "What do you want to eat?"
"Did you come back at noon just to eat?"
'Such a slow reaction? Only now does she realize I came back without working,' he thought.
He said with a smile, "So, you better make this meal worth it."
In an elegant and cozy, yet ambiguous restaurant, Sebastian looked at Brooklyn's tense little face across from him and chuckled. "What? You don't want to have a meal with me? Or am I too ugly to give you an appetite?"
Brooklyn pursed her lips. "So, are you planning to go to Hanland for plastic surgery?"
He laughed heartily. "If you can find a face better than mine, I might consider it."
"How come I never noticed before that you're so full of yourself?"
As they chatted, the tension on her face melted away, and she found herself getting lost in Sebastian's strong presence.
Sebastian opened the menu without hesitation and said, "There are a lot of things you haven't noticed before, so don't joke with your life anymore. You need to live to a hundred years old to slowly discover my potential."
Brooklyn, feeling a pang of sadness, didn't respond.
As the dishes were served, both stayed quiet. The only sound was the clinking of silverware against fine china. Brooklyn cherished every meal, knowing each one could be the last.
"Brooklyn." His voice was low, filled with ambiguity.
She was startled and looked up at him. "What is it?"
He pulled out his chair and walked to her side, his intense aura enveloping her instantly. The fork in her hand almost fell.
Sebastian suddenly leaned down, looking firmly into her watery eyes. "Close your eyes."
Brooklyn was puzzled. "What for?"
Brooklyn's biggest flaw was her disobedience, and of course, it was also her charm.
Sebastian showed great patience and gentleness with Brooklyn.
She wasn't compliant, so Sebastian simply covered her eyes with his hands, his large hands covering the upper half of her face, leaving her nose and red lips exposed. Her slightly parted rosy lips made Sebastian's Adam's apple bob, almost unable to resist kissing her!
He pulled out a brocade box from his pocket, opened it with one hand, and fastened a specially made women's watch on her wrist.
Feeling a cool sensation on her wrist, Brooklyn opened her eyes to see a silver watch face. There was no logo on the watch, but it was crafted by a master, and she knew it was priceless without guessing.
"There's only one of these in the world, custom-made for you. Do you like it?" he asked.
It was indeed a high-end item. The diamonds embedded in it alone were cut into fifty-eight perfect facets, not to mention the rest.
"Why are you giving me a watch?" she asked.
Sebastian suddenly smiled, his smile brighter than the sunlight outside the window. "Haven't you noticed that I'm trying to make you happy?"
'Make me happy?' she thought.
"You should carry this watch with you. From now on, we will use it to time every day we spend together. Every minute and second must be remembered clearly. We've wasted more than three years, so in the days to come, we need to make up for what we've lost," he said.
Brooklyn was stunned on the spot and asked, "Sebastian, are you out of your mind?"
The Sebastian in her memory was always distant and cold-hearted. Now, she thought she was dreaming, or had a virus invaded her brain, causing hallucinations.
"Having a meal with you and giving you a gift is a big deal," he said gently.
Brooklyn fell silent again, wondering whether there was really anything wrong with Sebastian's head.
"Also, this watch has a nice name," he added.
