Chapter 182 Shopping at the Supermarket Together
Brooklyn planned to get back to work the next day, so she quickly arranged her discharge and rushed to the office. She told everyone she had food poisoning, so it didn't raise too many eyebrows.
But somehow, her ambiguous relationship with Zach had morphed into all sorts of wild rumors.
"Dr. Mitchell, did you and Dr. Carter know each other in college?"
"Dr. Mitchell, have you and Dr. Carter been lovers all along? I never would've guessed; you're so discreet."
"Dr. Mitchell, why so secretive? Our hospital doesn't have a policy against office romances."
People just loved to gossip.
Brooklyn was completely baffled. Where did all these rumors come from?
Sienna approached her with a grin, "Dr. Mitchell, the story of Dr. Carter risking his life to save you has become a legend around here. It's so inspiring, romantic, and full of passion. Now, all the male doctors are fired up, wanting to show off their charm, too."
How boring was Sienna?
"There's nothing between Dr. Carter and me. The gossip will die down soon. Now, give me the ward round records for the last coronary patient. If there's no improvement, surgery might be necessary," Brooklyn said.
"You're always diverting us with patients," Sienna pouted.
Brooklyn tapped Sienna's head with the file in her hand, "Since when did a doctor's duty include gossiping? Have patients become a side job?"
"I can't argue with you. Here are the patient files, and these are all yours. Oh, and this was delivered by Dr. Rivera while you were away."
So much work! Brooklyn had only been gone for a day, but it felt like half a year!
"Those who can, do more, Dr. Mitchell. Keep it up."
Sienna walked away with a smile.
A higher position could crush people, and now that Piper had heard the rumors about Brooklyn and Zach, Piper would undoubtedly intensify Brooklyn's torment.
'Fine, let Piper come.' Brooklyn thought.
Carrying a stack of work, Brooklyn left the hospital, and it was already past six o'clock.
Brooklyn took a taxi back to her apartment.
She placed the documents on the sofa and decided to cook herself a meal.
Her phone rang as she tied her apron.
It was Sebastian.
'What now?' Brooklyn thought.
"Where are you?" It was a very calm and simple question.
"At home," Brooklyn replied through gritted teeth.
Sebastian checked his watch, then held the phone with one hand and grabbed his car keys, walking towards the elevator, "Which one?"
She never referred to Bayside Villas as home, and even if she did, it was always reluctantly. Speaking so naturally this time meant it definitely wasn't the villa.
"In my apartment." Brooklyn couldn't lie.
Good, she hadn't gone to the villa. To be honest, he didn't want to go there either.
"Have you eaten?" Why was Sebastian asking so naturally?
"Not yet; I'm planning to cook for myself," she answered naturally. What was going on?
Sebastian started the car and asked, "What do you have at home?"
Brooklyn stood in front of the fridge, staring inside.
She was dumbfounded; there were only leftover cocktails and no food.
Sebastian furrowed his brows. "Come downstairs and wait for me at the mall entrance. I'll be there in ten minutes."
What did that mean?
The call ended!
Brooklyn took off her apron, changed her shoes, and headed out. It was only a fifteen-minute walk. Before she reached the entrance, she saw a luxurious Rolls-Royce parked among a bunch of ordinary cars, making the area around it empty.
This location wasn't great; it was mid-range in terms of consumption, and there were fewer high-end cars. When luxury cars appeared, everyone avoided them. If they accidentally bumped into one, the repair costs would be more expensive than buying an ordinary car.
A tall and elegant figure emerged from the car, dressed in a black Versace suit, with a sharply handsome face.
Mature, dignified, with a hint of aloofness that made him difficult to approach—it was Sebastian.
"What's going on?" she asked as she walked over.
Sebastian glanced at the mall, "Is the supermarket on the basement level?"
"Yes, and so?" Brooklyn asked.
Before she could react, he actually lifted his long legs wrapped in dress pants and walked!
She was stunned. Sebastian turned back and sounded impatient, "Are you coming?"
Brooklyn had no choice but to follow Sebastian.
She thought, 'But what is that? And why is he actually shopping? Oh my God!'
People around them looked at Sebastian like he was so yummy; didn't he see that? As such a noble and distinguished man, wherever he went, he was like a lighthouse, a divine presence!
Brooklyn wanted to keep her distance from him.
"Why are you staying away? Come here." Sebastian asked.
She took small steps but still maintained a distance.
He frowned and wrapped his arm around her waist!
Brooklyn tensed all over! Her breathing quickened, and her brain cells were on fire!
Facing the gazes of people who wanted to devour her, Brooklyn forced a dry smile, "Sebastian, what are you doing?"
Sebastian remained calm, pushing the shopping cart slowly through the fresh produce section, and said, "Shopping."
Brooklyn fell silent.
"Why are you standing there? Pick what you want; I'm hungry."
She looked up at him, swallowing hard.
His pupils were as deep as the ocean, a bit sinister, a bit naughty, and a bit overpowering, "Have you seen me enough? If you're done, start getting groceries."
Groceries?
The world was trembling.
Brooklyn chose a few simple, easy-to-make dishes, mostly vegetarian, with some meat and fish as the highlight.
"Done," Brooklyn said.
There were a few items in the shopping cart. Sebastian furrowed his brows, "Is that all?"
Brooklyn nodded. "A meal doesn't require many ingredients."
Sebastian raised his brows. What if it wasn't just for one meal?
Forget it; he wouldn't say anything.
