Chapter 421 Every Day is Exhausting
The Turner Group Chairman's Office.
Lawrence and Megan sat on opposite sofas in the reception room.
Although Megan was the heiress of The Turner Group, she only held a portion of the company's shares and had never participated in any of the group's activities, let alone its management.
But today, Lawrence completely changed Megan's plans for the next few years.
Megan gripped the leather sofa tightly, her crystal nails almost breaking from the pressure. She looked at her father in disbelief, her eyes wide as she asked, "You want me to join the company's senior management now?"
Lawrence nodded helplessly, "The company's stock has been plummeting for ten consecutive days. If it weren't for the funds from the Kingsley family, the company would be facing a significant crisis, even a situation beyond our imagination. You know what I mean."
Megan didn't want to get involved in the company's management; her dream wasn't it!
"Dad, I want to make a comeback. I want to return to the entertainment industry. Look, there's no news about me anymore. If I stay silent any longer, I'll never have a chance to become famous again. If you make me manage the company, my career will be over, don't you understand?"
Lawrence shook his head and sighed, "Megan, I know you enjoy your work, but this time, The Turner Group needs your help. I'm not as young as I used to be, and many things are beyond my control. Can you give up acting for The Turner Group, for me and your mother?"
Megan was unwilling!
Her shoulders trembled violently, and she was both angry and resentful. Even her heavily made-up face could show red veins from the anger, and her eyes were filled with rage as she almost screamed at Lawrence, "Dad, I have nothing left now. My marriage is ruined, I can't marry the man I love, Sebastian. My career is gone too, I have nothing!"
"You still have me and your mother, and The Turner Group, Megan. The Turner Group will be yours in the future. What are you afraid of? Are the riches brought to you by The Turner Group not worth more than the earnings you fought for in the entertainment industry?"
Megan painfully covered her face, burying it in her hands, her shoulders and back shaking violently from crying.
Her voice was choked, with a hint of sarcasm, "Money? Dad, can't I have something I want to do? What can money bring me? I don't want to be a useless person only have money! I'm Megan, a superstar on the international stage! I want to be in the spotlight, I want the glory! Not something money can buy!"
What she wanted was to stand on stage, enjoying everyone's admiration, the flowers and applause, the envy and jealousy of millions of viewers! Not to be a robot in a high-end suit, bending over documents in an office every day!
She didn't want that kind of life!
Lawrence understood her, but at this moment, he had to crush Megan's dream, "Megan, I promise you, once The Turner Group gets through this crisis, I'll let you go. You can do whatever you want, and I won't stop you."
Megan lifted her tear-streaked face, "When will that be? Dad, my youth is fleeting! I've been out of the entertainment industry for over two years because of Sebastian. I can't wait until I'm thirty to return!"
Lawrence's brow furrowed tightly, and a sudden sharp pain struck his chest. Half of his body slumped to one side of the sofa, one hand clutching his suit, pressing hard against his heart, his expression twisted in pain.
"Dad! What's wrong? Don't scare me!"
Megan rushed over, her hands flailing in panic, not knowing how to help him, her face even paler than before, "Dad! I'll call an ambulance right away!"
The heart spasm hit Lawrence hard, leaving him no time to hide it from Megan. In a rough, weak voice, he managed to say, "The medicine is in the drawer."
"Okay! I'll get the medicine!"
Megan had no idea Lawrence had heart disease, let alone that it was this severe. His earlier anxiety had triggered the pain, and only after taking the medicine did he manage to calm down a bit.
Clutching his chest, Lawrence took a few deep breaths and weakly held Megan's hand, pleading, "Megan, you see my condition now. So, I hope you can come back to the company to help me. I don't trust anyone else, you know?"
Megan lifted her face, the resentment and unwillingness almost tearing her heart apart. Why couldn't she return to manage the company after achieving success in the entertainment industry?
She was unwilling!
But seeing Lawrence like this, if she insisted on refusing, The Turner Group would be in real danger. Gritting her teeth, Megan nodded, "Okay, I'll come back to help you."
She cursed inwardly, 'Brooklyn! You have your career and have returned to Sebastian's arms. You have everything! And what about me? I have nothing! I won't let you live comfortably!'
[Famous Libertya actress Megan Turner, after more than two years of retirement, suddenly held a press conference. This time, she has transformed into the General Manager of The Turner Group. From now on, she will be managing The Turner Group alongside her father, Lawrence Turner, in hopes of reviving the company's former glory.]
Seeing the news, Sebastian raised an eyebrow slightly, "It came a bit early."
Dario nodded, "Indeed, it's earlier than expected. Ms. Turner was preparing for her comeback recently. Her sudden announcement to return to The Turner Group as General Manager is seriously out of line with her plans."
Sebastian tapped his finger on the table, the rhythm almost matching his heartbeat, "It seems Lawrence has encountered trouble."
"So, should we do something?"
Sebastian picked up his coffee cup and took a light sip. Megan giving up her entertainment career to manage the Turner Group must have an irresistible reason, "After all, it's a big deal for The Turner Group. Send her a flower basket on behalf of the company."
"Yes, Mr. Kingsley."
As Dario left, Quinn came in.
Since becoming the financial manager of MBK Group, Quinn's life had been extremely tough. Every day, he had to look at a large amount of data, documents, and financial reports, leaving him exhausted.
He entered with a large stack of financial department settlement documents, leaning against the door and complaining bitterly, "Sebastian, you have to talk to Dad. I really can't handle the position of financial manager. Look, I've lost weight in just a few days."
Sebastian glanced up at him and continued signing the documents, "Losing weight isn't a bad thing. This way is quite effective."
Quinn piled the documents on his desk and leaned over, watching him sign, "Sebastian, don't you find it boring to sit here every day looking at documents, signing, and attending meetings? There's so much beautiful scenery and fun places outside, isn't it a pity not to go?"
Sebastian paused for a moment, then looked up at Quinn, "Do you think your work is too easy?"
"How could it be? Can't you see I'm already exhausted?"
"If you're tired, how do you still have time to waste here?"
Quinn looked up at the ceiling in exasperation, "Sebastian, I'm really different from you. Working in the company is not my preferred lifestyle, you know that!"
Quinn was on the verge of tears! Why did he drop out of school back then? Why did he dislike finance and management so much?
But now, Brian had dragged him back with just one sentence and forced him to manage the company's finances. Wasn't this killing him?
Sebastian nodded, his gaze calm and unaffected by Quinn's protests and agitation, "So? Do you have a way to refuse?"
Quinn was hit right in the sore spot, looking despondent, "No."
"If not, then go back to work. Also, the report you gave me last time had a wrong number."
"What?"
"You moved the decimal point one place forward. Do you understand what that means?"
Quinn was dumbfounded, a tenfold difference!
As Sebastian saw his surprise, he patted a stack of documents, "I don't want to see the same mistake in these."
Quinn was suddenly speechless, looking at Sebastian with admiration, "Sebastian, how do you do it? With so many documents, you actually noticed I made a mistake with a decimal point? That's amazing!"
"Do you really not want to take my position?" Sebastian changed his tone, asking seriously.
Quinn shook his head vigorously, "Not at all!"
As they spoke, the office door was knocked on. Sebastian gestured to Quinn, who obediently sat in his chair.
The person who entered was the marketing director, holding a large stack of documents, "Mr. Sebastian Kingsley, these are the marketing department's reports for the first half of the month and the projects for the second half."
"Okay."
Quinn silently widened his eyes. Damn, the marketing department has so much work too?
He was already overwhelmed with just the finance department. Then Sebastian must be very busy every day!
"Sebastian, I really admire you! I have to admit, there's a gap between us. Alright, I'll go back to work."
Sebastian suddenly called out to him, "Didn't you say you were tired and bored?"
Quinn turned back, "Oh, didn't you also say it couldn't be changed?"
"There's something that can perk you up." Sebastian added.
"Really?"
Sebastian nodded, "Scarlett is back from Averlake. She won't be working for the next couple of days. You can hang out with her to relax."
Quinn suddenly felt energized.
"Are you saying I can hang out with her alone?"
"Why? You don't want to?"
"I do! I really do! Sebastian, I'm off!" Quinn was over the moon when he heard the news.
As Quinn left the office, Sebastian shook his head with a helpless smile. Did Quinn really not want to take control of MBK Group?
It didn't seem to matter anymore.
At this moment, the office door was knocked on for the third time. Sebastian looked at his watch and smiled slightly, "Come in!"
