Chapter 73 It's Him After All

"Megan, the Brooklyn you mentioned, is it this Brooklyn?" Piper sent Megan a photo of Brooklyn, then hesitantly called her to confirm.

When Megan saw the photo of Brooklyn on her phone, she clenched the strap of her Hermès bag tightly, her eyes filled with hatred, gritting her teeth, "Yes! That's the despicable person!"

Piper sat in her office chair, lightly chuckling, "She's under my control. Dealing with her is easier than squishing an ant."

With a malicious smile on her lips, Megan said, "Piper, I'm counting on you. Whether I can marry Sebastian, a big part of the decision lies with this woman. As for the choice, Piper, I believe you are smarter than me."

Piper adjusted the blinds and saw a white figure just leaving her office, "What? Do you only say nice things when you need something?"

Megan explained, "Not at all. You've always been clever! I just didn't expect things to align so perfectly for me. I only knew you came back from abroad, but I didn't expect you to end up at Aucester Hospital, specifically in the cardiology department."

Piper replied, "You probably didn't expect that I, as the deputy director, happen to be his superior. Alright, pregnant women need rest. I'll let you know if there are any updates."

"Thank you. Oh, I bought you a new handbag, I'm sure you'll love it." Megan responded.

After hanging up the phone, Megan's mouth curled up even more triumphantly. With her crystal-adorned nails, she lightly played with the new handbag in her hand, sneering contemptuously.

As Brooklyn walked out of the office, she felt a bit troubled. Being asked to see the new deputy director, she didn't even know if the new deputy director was a man or a woman. Was it appropriate to bring up such a big issue right away?

Fortunately, there weren't many tasks for her today, so she decided to give it a try. She took a deep breath, pressed the elevator button, watching the numbers change one by one. She hoped the deputy director would be understanding.

The elevator arrived with a Ding.

Brooklyn took a few deep breaths, adjusted her breathing, and the deputy director's office was right in front of her. As she approached the door, she peeked inside and saw a tall figure standing in front of the desk, examining a model of a heart.

She tapped on the door, and the tall figure turned around at the sound.

"Why are you here?" To her surprise, the person in the room was Zach.

Brooklyn glanced around the deputy director's office. It was completely different from when Mr. Wilson was there. The office was clean and tidy, with an additional row of bookshelves filled with medical books, mostly related to cardiac surgery.

There were two models of internal organs on the desk, a large model of the internal organs, and a small model of the heart.

He was holding the heart model.

Zach smiled slightly, "What's up?"

Brooklyn instinctively stepped back a bit, "It seems the deputy director is not here. I'll come back another day."

He chuckled, "What do you need from him?"

Brooklyn felt there was no need to explain in detail to him, and she coldly said, "Nothing."

Zach put down the heart model and walked away from the desk, revealing the nameplate that had been hidden behind him. He smiled gently and asked, "Go on. Why are you here?"

Just as Brooklyn was about to retort when she suddenly saw the name tag clearly on the edge of the table.

It read 'Deputy Director – Zach'.

He was actually the deputy director!

It took Brooklyn at least thirty seconds to react. She pieced together the fragmented information she had heard before, "the deputy director is a good-looking, and promising surgeon.

The rumors were not about an associate director but the prestigious deputy director of Aucester Hospital.

He was so young!

He looked at her changing expressions and smiled again, "Any questions, Dr. Mitchell?"

"Mr. Carter, this is the application form I prepared for the professorship. Could you take a look and see if it's acceptable?" Brooklyn steadied her mind and handed him the form, a forced smile betraying her nervousness.

He carefully went through the form, noticing her neat handwriting. Everything was filled out completely, except for the marital status section, which was left blank.

She glanced at him from the corner of her eye. Perhaps because she suddenly learned of his identity, she now felt that something was off. If he were just a regular doctor, his previous behavior could be seen as simple colleague camaraderie. But as the deputy director, it felt odd.

As she was silently criticizing him, his elegant voice rang out, "The application form looks fine. You just need to submit a professional paper, but it has to be of high quality. It must be completed this month. Can you do it?"

It seemed there were no issues, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

"I should be able to." Brooklyn responded.

With one hand in his lab coat pocket, Zach gazed deeply at her, "Dr. Mitchell, you are the pride of the internal medicine department. Becoming a professor should be no problem for you. If you succeed, you'll be the youngest female professor in our hospital. Congratulations."

She chuckled, "I haven't been promoted yet, Mr. Carter, your congratulations are premature."

His features were dignified and handsome, and his smile was charming, "If you do get promoted, how do you plan to thank me?"

Brooklyn lightly laughed, "Let's wait until I get promoted to discuss that!"

As she briskly walked out of his office, she didn't see the multiple emotions on Zach's face behind her, nor did she see him covering her personal file with a stack of documents.

She was married, but no one knew.
