Chapter 401 The Most Difficult Patient to Care For
Megan didn't understand Sebastian's questioning, nor did she expect him to specifically defend Scarlett because of her misunderstanding. She awkwardly smiled and reached across the table to hold his hands, "I didn't know Scarlett had a fiancé. I just thought Scarlett and James looked good together. Sebastian, I didn't mean anything by it."
The more she tried to explain, the worse Sebastian's expression became. He withdrew his hand from her grasp and picked up the menu, "If you're not sure, then don't speak carelessly. I don't like women who talk too much, and I dislike women who make random assumptions about others even more."
"I won't do it again," Megan quickly explained, then put on a charming smile to please him, "Sebastian, you should try the foie gras here. Last time I had it with Piper, and it was really good."
Piper?
That name triggered something in Sebastian. He looked up from the menu, "Megan, besides your cousins, do you have anything else to talk about? If not, then don't speak."
Megan felt like slapping herself. She knew Sebastian didn't like Piper and James, yet she inadvertently mentioned them. She quickly put on a sweet smile and gently changed the topic, "Sebastian, a few days ago I went shopping with Mrs. Kingsley. She said we should go shopping together sometime..."
Megan spoke a long string of words, but Sebastian didn't hear. All his attention was focused on a nearby table. He wondered what Brooklyn and James were talking about while having dinner together.
James said, "Scarlett, see that? That's a couple, who have endless things to talk about, happy and content."
Scarlett cut her steak with a knife and fork, unimpressed, "Mr. Rivera, if you're so envious, you can join their table. It would give me a quiet dining environment."
James placed a bit of foie gras on Scarlett's plate and raised an eyebrow as he withdrew his hand, "I don't want to be around them. Besides, I am pursuing you. Today, I'm here to serve you."
The silver knife and fork clinked against the fine porcelain plate, making a pleasant sound. Scarlett frowned at the foie gras on her plate, "Mr. Rivera, we're not close enough to be adding food to each other's plates."
James rested his elbows on the table edge, not refuting, and smiled openly, "I didn't ask you to add food for me, so it's not mutual. It's just me serving you."
Scarlett's brow furrowed deeply. She didn't eat food added by others. Not even Kevin dared to add food to her plate when they dined together.
"Mr. Rivera, do you have a masochistic tendency?" She looked at the glaring foie gras, wanting to remove the plate entirely.
James, always arrogantly proud, was unlikely to be masochistic. In Aucester, besides the Kingsley family, no one else dared to embarrass him. Yet Scarlett made such a comment about him.
He laughed heartily, "So, Scarlett, are you a sadist? If that's the case, we're a perfect match."
The laughter from the other table disturbed Sebastian. Despite the exquisite food in front of him, he had no appetite. Compared to the lifeless atmosphere here, Scarlett and James seemed to be having a lively conversation.
Sebastian felt very displeased.
If James dared to make any inappropriate moves towards Scarlett, he vowed to personally break his limbs.
Megan tried to please him by adding food to his plate, "Sebastian, try this."
Sebastian hadn't taken, and his frown never relaxed, "Megan, I have something to do tonight. Let James take you home."
As Megan ate, the food suddenly lost all its flavor. Her carefully applied eyeshadow felt like it was about to peel off, layer by layer, like a mural flaking off a wall. "Sebastian," she said, "I'm here to have dinner with you. I’m your fiancée. How could you push me off to James?"
Her voice choked up, and she looked at Sebastian with tearful eyes. His indifferent expression broke her heart and deeply hurt her.
Sebastian rested his arm on the table, looking at Megan with a headache, "Do I need to remind you again how our so-called engagement came about? And I've told you, if you want to be my nominal fiancée, that's up to you. But you have no right to comment on or veto any of my decisions."
A year ago, Sebastian's words now echoed in Megan's mind. To win the title of Sebastian's fiancée, Megan had agreed to everything. She always fantasized about winning Sebastian's heart, but after more than a year, she still lost to the long-deceased Brooklyn!
The more she loved Sebastian, the more she hated Brooklyn!
She gritted her teeth and nodded, "I understand, Sebastian."
Sebastian gave her no room for maneuver, "Since you understand, you know what to do now, right?"
Megan's eyes widened suddenly, "Now?"
Sebastian's intention to kick her out of the table was clear.
Megan clenched her fists but didn't get up. She suppressed the anger in her chest and asked, "Sebastian, do you like Scarlett?"
A woman's intuition was often accurate.
Sebastian neither confirmed nor denied it. He put down his knife and fork and leaned back in his chair, "Megan, you're meddling too much."
Since Scarlett's status was uncertain, he couldn't make enemies for her prematurely.
Megan stood up, angrily clutching her purse strap, "Sebastian, enjoy your meal. I'll leave now."
What did it mean to have the title of the matriarch of the Kingsley family? Megan might appear to be living a glamorous life in public, but in reality, she was with a Sebastian who did not love her, receiving neither affection nor care.
Since Megan chose to drink poison to quench her thirst, she should know the price.
"Scarlett is my personal doctor. Remind her who the man she should be serving is." He emphasized "man" specifically, his displeasure evident.
Megan was trembling with anger, "Okay."
Neither Scarlett nor James expected Megan to suddenly come over. Scarlett looked up curiously at Megan's pale face, "Ms. Turner, what's wrong?"
Megan didn't even look at Scarlett. Just hearing Scarlett's voice, which was exactly like Brooklyn's, made her want to strangle Scarlett! "James, Sebastian has something to do tonight, so you'll take me home."
James's expression turned dark, "Me?"
Before James could finish his surprise, Megan gritted her teeth and said to Scarlett, "Sebastian wants you to go over."
Now it was Scarlett's turn to be confused. What exactly did Sebastian want?
She smiled faintly, "Mr. Rivera, I'm sorry, it seems my patient needs me. Enjoy your meal, Ms. Turner. We just started, and the waiter will bring a new plate of tiramisu. I hope you like it."
Megan really wanted to throw the cake in Scarlett's face! But she still tried to be calm. "Scarlett, Sebastian's illness is now your responsibility. You must take good care of him!"
Anyone could hear that Megan was jealous!
Scarlett moved her chair, "Don't worry, Ms. Turner. I treat all my patients equally."
When she reached Sebastian's table, Scarlett didn't sit in the chair Megan had used. Instead, she stood in front of the table, scrutinizing him, "Did you get so excited eating with Ms. Turner that your heart needs immediate resuscitation?"
SHe couldn't say anything nice.
But as soon as she appeared, Sebastian felt the light brighten in his vision, even though her face was really annoying. "Sit down."
Sebastian picked up his knife and fork again and began to truly enjoy his dinner.
Scarlett's mouth tilted, "You want me to eat your fiancée's leftovers?"
"Are you unwilling?"
"Of course."
Sebastian chewed his food rhythmically, "If you're unwilling, then sit down and watch me eat."
Scarlett sneered, pressing her hands on the table, almost rolling her eyes, "Sebastian, what are you angry about?"
Sebastian ate with relish, "Then, my personal doctor, what identity do you have to dine with my fiancée's cousin, whom I just announced I would pursue?"
Damn, could the relationship be any more complicated?
"James is just my friends!"
Sebastian chuckled, "It seems you're so lonely and desperate for friends that you'll take anyone?"
Scarlett pulled out a chair and sat down angrily, "Sebastian, what you did just now was very rude. Your fiancée lost face. How do you think she feels about me? How does James feel about me?"
Sebastian cut a piece of steak and accurately placed it in Scarlett's mouth with his fork, which blocked Scarlett's mouth, and she was instantly stunned.
Scarlett's wide eyes stared at Sebastian's defiant face, cursing him as a scumbag in her heart!
Sebastian's expression was elusive, "Why should I care what others think?"
He was absolutely domineering and arrogant.
Sebastian's long fingers, under the gaze of the nearby table, reached Scarlett's lips, pinching her chin, manually teaching her to eat, "If you don't chew, your saliva will come out, Ms. Taylor."
Scarlett swallowed the beef with anger, "Sebastian, the game should stop when it's no longer fun."
Sebastian forked another piece, loving the way she chewed, "What identity are you using to talk to me now? If it's as a girlfriend or future wife, I'll listen to you. As for any other identity, whatever you say next, swallow it with the food."
Bastard! Was this how he pursues her? Trying to drive her to death?
"I'm your doctor, nothing more."
"No problem, identities can be upgraded, roles can be adjusted." He flashed a mysterious smile, easily capturing her heart. "After dinner, I'll take you somewhere."
"I'm not going."
"You said you are my doctor. Since you choose that identity, I'll cooperate and be a dutiful patient."
"You're being unreasonable, Sebastian."
Sebastian savored his food, feeling even more pleased, "What did you just call me?"
Scarlett chewed the steak to pieces, "Sebastian!"
He nodded in satisfaction, "Very good. My name means being unreasonable."
Scarlett fell silent.
These days, even being unreasonable could be brazenly justified! Only Sebastian could do that.
At the next table, Megan hadn't stopped crying since she sat down, but she didn't dare make a sound. Her tears all fell into her plate.
James rubbed his forehead, "Megan, look at what you've become for Sebastian?"
"I love him, and I'm willing!"
James pitied her misfortune and was angry at her lack of spirit, "Love? Is there really such a thing in this world? Don't blame me for not warning you, love is all lies from books. In real life, it's all about mutual benefit."
Megan gritted her teeth, "That's because you've never loved anyone. You wouldn't understand."
